Because I'm not listening!

This post is for those with confirmations:

Hotel rate glitches happen all the time. And for the most part, they are usually honored or at least a compromise is made.

Marriotts, Hiltons, Four Seasons, and hotels of that status have all honoured glitched in the past. In fact, the presential suite of a high end hotel was bookable for $51 recently and the hotel honoured it. The key is persistance. This was THEIR mistake and it should be honoured, especially if it's paid in full. Those with confirmed ressies should stick together and insist that Disney honor these rates.

Of course CRO is going to say that they won't honour it. What else do you expect them to say. We need to stand firm with Disney.

I am prepared to fight this - I have now purchased non-refundable airline tickets for our vacation. If this rate is not honored, we are out several hundred dollars on flights we can't use.

Actually, all of this action over this glitch should give Disney an idea{if they haven’t thought about it already}. What if there was a similar “glitch”, but one that Disney actually created. In the off-season when certain higher-value rooms are empty, why not create a glitch like this. If the rooms were most likely going to be empty anyway, would Disney really be “losing” money by offering these rooms at this discounted price? The bigger advantage for Disney is that they’d be getting many of us to take an extra trip or 2 that they wouldn’t have. While on this extra trip, we’d be spending plenty of money on food, merch, etc. I know personally before I saw this thread I had no plans on going down anytime soon. But once I heard this, I started going through the kids’ school calendars & seeing when they had off so we could get down for 4-7 days. Now keep in mind, if this offer stood, I just may have gone through with it & planned an extra vacation. And this “glitch” would still have cost us approx $1800 for 6 nights just for the room. Add those other food & merch costs & just like that Disney would have made a nice chunk off us. At basically no cost to them. Makes you stop & think. With this idea in mind, Disney could probably get those off-season empty rooms filled just like that.
They've already thought of it.
It's called free dining, AP discounts, general public discount codes, etc., etc.
They may not be as much of a discount as this glitch, but the purpose is the same: to convince people to come visit during times of the year that are typically slower travel seasons.
I'm sure Disney has quite a few people dedicated to figuring out what kind of offers/discounts will result in the highest overall profits. Unfortunately for us, the maximum profit isn't achieved by having super cut rate prices.

For instance, it makes more sense to charge $200/night for a room and have the hotel at 80% occupancy than to charge $100/night and have the hotel at 100% occupancy.

I agree. Of course I still have to get my future wife to agree with not staying at the GF, so I may not even make it to the point of making sure they honor it
Somehow I'd think she'd be thrilled (have you seen pics of the rooms on alllears - knocked my socks off:goodvibes ).

You could always compromise & do a split stay & spend the difference on an illuminations cruise, etc.

good luck to us all, we're gonna need it.:Pinkbounc

I was just thinking about situations like this as I was making my lunch. I would hope that Disney would consider situations like these before cancelling the reservations or telling us that we can only have our reservation for rack rate.

Is anybody familiar with consumer protection laws in Florida? I was under the impression that they were pretty favorable to the consumer (thanks to the lobbying efforts of the AARP). If they end up cancelling my reservation, I'll probably make the effort to send a letter the the Attorney General's office and see if that helps. Worth a try, I suppose.

Althought it was a glitch..Disney should honor it (my opinion). They didn't even know it was there until everyone starting booking it. I know it states that they reserve the right to cancel reservations or whatever the fine print is, but then they can do that to ANYONE'S reservation.

Now this is not on the same level [monatarily (sp?) wise], but if a $300 Cashmere sweater was on the same rack as clearance and was marked down to $25.00 on the tag by accident I would argue that ..that's the advertised price.

Whether it's a sweater or a garden suite at BWI..advertised prices should be honored whether it was a mistake or not. Why do you think they were so quick to fix it? I bet most of those "newbies" with 1-5 posts were DIsney employees looking for a quick fix to the problem. (Either that or they heard about it from a friend and quickly joined the DIS!)

She wasn't thrilled when I told her on the phone. I had to e-mail her the pictures, so she will look at them when she gets home. I did say we could spend a night at GF, but since we already are doing a cruise to end the trip, she didn't want to pack and unpack again. maybe if I tell her we can split the stay, 3 nights each? :Pinkbounc Thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

Since we are not paying for the honeymoon (thanks mom :teeth: ) I can't use the money excuse

And I agree, good luck to everyone and please keep us all posted

Good luck. Someone on another thread about this topic provided the information from the back of a confirmed reservation page they recieved in the mail basically stating that Disney had the right to cancel reservations provided they refund the guest's money. I wouldn't hold my breath for them to honor the rate, even if you are persistant. It is completely legal for Disney to make you pay the normal rate or cancel your reservation and refund your money. Bad press, maybe a little but I don't think the vast majority of people would stop going to disney over this.

I got three nights in Feb at this amazing rate, but now that the rate has been fixed, I'm sure we'll also get a letter, and will then cancel.

Because of these boards and the mass amounts of people that found this glitch, Disney will probably not honor this rate.

However, if the original finder of this rate had not said anything, that person probably would have gotten this great rate. At most, maybe a dozen people would have found this rate, Disney would have fixed the website, and honored it for the few that did find it.

It's the same thing with the special perks that Disney has, the spread of the internet has ruined those perks to where folks think they are entitlements, not just "special pixie dust".

This "Year of a Million Dreams" also has me worried about how it is going to be handled. The way the many internet groups seem to hop on any advantage , I've got a feeling that there will be hundreds upon hundreds of posts about how to "find" a Dream Giver. It will probably get to where the "Dream Givers" will avoid anyone they see with a 10 foot pole, if they even suspect they are an AP holder, frequent visitor, or a member of any of the internet boards.

Pixie Dust is only Pixie Dust if it happens unexpectedly!!

I had dates available in Jan, Feb, & April as well, including MLK Day, President's Day, and from 3/31-4/5.
Yep, I was tempted to book X-mas day.

Congratulations and what a nice present! :wizard:

I'm sure we will have a great time

However, I'm sure my mom is going to hope DF chooses the suite, and saves her almost $2K :cool1:

They actually took a while to fix it (in terms of glitches, theyre usually fixed much faster) and I don't think they were disney employees posting, I'm sure a few people called Disney, thus informing them and then they refused to book via phone, while they fixed it.

Just happened to be reading another board when somebody mentioned all the hoopla over here so I thought I would take a look. Congratulations to all those who booked their trips during the window of opportunity. I have not read all the thread but did notice in the origianl post that that trip was booked through Dreams Unlimited. I was just wondering if everybody else booked through them or went directly to Disney to book? I thought the possibility to actually get Disney to honor the booking might be some what more difficult if you went through a third party.

I would suggest you mention that to DF. Even if it isn't your pocketbook, $2000 is a lot of money and I would want to know if I had an option...that was a GREAT option, not a scaled down one...that would save my ILs that much money on a gift they were giving us like that. :) For $200 if I had my heart set on the GF I may say I really want that but for $2000 I would definitely be looking at the BWI closely.

For what it is worth, the GF is my family's favorite resort but BWI is just a teeny tiny hair behind. Both are really wonderful and they have similar atmospheres. I loved the atmosphere out on the Boardwalk at night! I was there with my mother and my kids but called my husband and said if we can plan for a trip just the two of us sometime, I'd love to stay here so we can enjoy the Boardwalk at night together. :) The staff at BWI CL was FABULOUS. Both before and during our trip they were terrific! You'll have concierge access with the garden suite, was that something you had planned for the GF? If not mention that to her. You can head up the stairs to the lounge and grab a glass of wine or cordial and a desert to bring back to your room and enjoy together. :)

No matter which option you decide on, you'll be at a wonderful resort. :) Congrats on your wedding!

That was something else, this was a price mistake on Disney's website.
