Driving to DDs college orientation, she got a little car sick and threw up. We stopped at the next exit and went to a gas station.

As DW was cleaning up the mess, she sent me in to find some saltine crackers.

I go look, can't find anything so ask if they carry just plain crackers

The guy looks at me, then bends down, pulls out a Crack pipe, and asks if that's what I was looking for!

Yes, DD attended orientation, and is feeling better, but I thought this story was too funny NOT to share

Sounds like the dude didn't have all his ducks in a row. ;)

Glad your DD is feeling better. I get carsick sometimes.....so not fun.

Probably a case of a merchant knowing their audience and being stocked appropriately.

I remember seeing a post not long ago on Reddit about the topic.

A convenience store that had dozens of cans of compressed air for sale at the register. Another that sold individual brillo pads and had stacks of glass tubes for sale.

Compressed air could be used for multiple things. Same with brillo pads.

not so much (no there was no baggie of stuff with it, but the pipe is just like what he showed me (aside me).

I can’t find the picture now of the stores but the primary purpose of individual Brillo pads when paired with a glass tube is to make a metal screen for use while smoking crack.

I assume the compressed air was for huffing.

Head shops will sell pipes of all sorts. Some of the gas station convenience stores around me have a display case full of pipes and bongs labeled for tobacco use only. Sure.

I am not sure if a brand new pipe with no residue qualifies as drug paraphernalia.

The store you were at could probably legally openly sell brand new crack pipes if they wanted.

Yours might not have been a case of the merchant being on board with the sale but an enterprising employee with some personal merchandise for sale.

"When paired with a glass tube".

Probably, but does have other uses.

All I can say is when I asked for plain crackers, the guy ducked down and pulled out the pipe from a drawer.

Did it look new or used? 🤣

Lots of head shops legally sell pipes of various types, I believe. I remember being a young teen and going into a basement shop in the Old Market in Omaha and giggling about all the pipes and whatnot. We thought we were being so daring by going in there. 🤣

But can't say I've ever noticed any pipes and a regular old gas station. Though, I've never looked.

You gotta file this under "Extreme Small World" - I'm in Canada, but if you're referring to the Valero gas station next to the Shelbyville Best Western I've actually been there more than once on road trips.

Yup. That's the one.
