Umbrella or Ponchos or Both?

Ponchos are easier (until they need to be folded! o_O ), but are awful in the summer heat. Small umbrellas work okay if it’s not super-crowded (I’ve been poked more than once).

We've been every June for the last couple of years. We pack both ponchos and small umbrellas. We've even used the umbrellas when it's super hot and sunny to provide some shade. We saw a lady carrying an umbrella in the sun a few years ago and thought it seemed odd until we tried it ourselves.

Also, we wear sports sandals that can get wet so we're not wearing squishy sneakers around. Quick dry shorts and shirts are great, too.

Totally personal preference. I got ponchos for my kids and me, which I was totally fine with, but once we were out in the rain, one of my kids absolutely insisted that he had to have an umbrella. Next time, I will pack both.

I agree with the both mentality. I prefer to throw a small umbrella in the bag, but in big crowds you need to pull out the poncho. They both take up some room, but as we typically go in late summer/early fall it's bad when you don't have anything.

Good grief. Don’t be an umbrella person. It’s crowded enough already, and now you’re effectively making yourself three times wider. People have to duck so they don’t get poked in the eye. Bring a raincoat or a disposable poncho. Umbrellas are almost downright rude at Disney.

We tried rain jackets one year and it just didn't go well. The jackets stop at your waste and the water just drips into your pants.

We wear quick-dry clothing when possible and that's about it. I think ponchos are miserable so we stay away from those. It's like 957 degrees when we go, so we just try to get out of the rain when it's really, really bad, and other wise, we consider it Mother Nature's sprinkler for the most part. :) When the rain stops you'll dry fairly quickly. (We do pack extra socks for anyone wearing them.)

WHy not go with a packable rain coat with a hood, way more fashionable than a poncho and if the wind picks up you can layer yourself with a coat better than an umbrella. You can not beat the portability of an umbrella though.
Another good use for a rain coat is to use it as a cover for a stroller for instance, keeps the sun out of a sleeping babies eyes.

I use umbrellas all the time and I've never poked anyone. Just be aware of your surroundings.

I've been bumped into countless times by ponchos wearers getting me soaked.
