Ultrasound w/poss. bad news (Trisomy)

Wow, thanks for all the information. I never knew about the QUAD test not being very accurate. I will suggest to her about an amnio which I honestly thought she'd end up having to get anyways.

Hi

Lots of great information here, but I had to comment on this. A quad screen is extremely accurate...for what it is. It's not meant to give a definitive answer. It's meant to adjust risk. For example, if you are 35, your risk of Downs is 1:200. After your quad screen, your risk level may change. It could change to something better (1:20000, say) or something worse (for example, 1:8). All it does is help you and your doctor decide what level of concern to have.

People will say things like the quad screen was positive or negative, but that isn't a really precise way to talk about the results. An amnio or CVS will give you a positive or negative result. A quad screen won't because it isn't meant to.

A quad screen can give info about a lot of disorders, fyi, including trisomies (13,18, and 21) as well as spina bifida.

Oh look at those little toes!! Congratulations on the good news and blessings for a smooth rest of pregnancy for your sister.

You all must be so relieved! Now to look forward to holding that beautiful baby! :thumbsup2 :cutie: :goodvibes

I'm sorry she was frightened and stressed for nothing (as is usually the case with these things, ugh!), but glad her baby is okay.

Glad to hear that Emmalee is going to be fine!
