one of the newsletters emailed out just now with a March UY fully loaded- the real fully loaded- 2018 has 600 banked. 2019 has 1200 (600 banked) 2020 600. $87 pp. Those extra 1200 banked points have a rental/transfer value of about $16,500, if you can make it work, of course. Could potentially bring the contract to under 30k. I have 600 Aulani or I’d be all over it. And no, these aren’t my points. Mine are borrowed to the max, what else!?

Yeah I saw that. I would love to be in the position to spend that much money, not make use of it for a few years, and then dump it off for cheap. The MFs on that contract alone are somewhere around $4,000 per year.

It's a nice contract for someone who would frequent Aulani. Even though I live in CA and frequent Hawaii, I don't want to always go to Oahu. I prefer Kauai or Maui. So my DVC home resorts are strictly at WDW (and looking to add a contract at VGC eventually). I know people have options at 7 months, but I prefer to guarantee a stay at one of the parks resorts and not SSR or OKW.

We are also west coast and adore Aulani and Oahu. We’ve made it a holiday tradition. 600 points doing go far at Aulani in OV but I was able to book hotel at 11 for friends and that was nice. I think if you are going to WDW though, its best to have WDW points more and more and it gets harder to book. We have VGF points for that.

I have used my Aulani points several times at VGC but I dont plan on that continuing after SWL so thats the contract I’m on the hunt for now and I’m going to pay for waiting! Or there’s still a long shot possibility of another DVC at DLR and I’d be down for that.

Right! It’s tempting but knowing me, I will spend them instead! Last April I was shopping for WDW and landed on a great, dont get me wrong, contract at VGF but I was torn between that and BCV. BCV was 350 pts for $101 loaded. If only I had bought it, stripped it and put it right back up... I’m a horrible speculator. A day late and/or a dollar short : D. And youre right dues at Aulani are no joke BUT they are getting that way at several props.

I'm sitting on the balcony of a Poly DVC studio right now looking at DVC resale contract listings. As I was looking, I saw a DVC van pull up and people loading into it holding a welcome packet binder. This vacation club stuff is a ton of fun, but man is it addicting.

I think if they put another DVC at DLR, it would sell out in a sec! There just seems to be so much demand, and VGC contracts get snapped up really quickly.

How successful have you been in getting VGC ressies? Is it mostly last minute availability or a couple days at a time? We debated buying VGC first, but held off because 1) having DVC at WDW would motivate us to make the trek to FL and visit east coast relatives, and 2) the price point was so high that we wanted to see how likely we are able to use our WDW points. Also since we are driving distance, if there's 2 nights last minute availability, we could go on short notice.

That contract is prime lowballing material  with the size and MF issues. Disney doesn't ROFR Aulani either. I hope someone on this board who can use a boatload of aulani points, and have more guts than me, goes for it.

We have been very fortunate with VGC res. We usually go for a 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom. We did get a studio for a few days last summer but only becuase oddly, it was the only thing avail. IN the last couple years we have got 9 nights over feb break, some studio nights mentioned, a 1 bedroom in April, and this year we got a week 1 bedroom in August and also again from Xmas to NYE. BUT as I say, I really font think I will see a res again after SWL opens. Rental requests and general demand will go way up. It is relieveing though that SWL is also going in at the same time at WDW. I prepared to trade Aulani Xmas for VGC xmas but was shocked that it was open. (1 bed only). I think the thing is, VGC is the most costly that week followed closely by Aulani (and you cannot get Aulani NYE without 11mos.), that folks dont have the points or dont want to spend them. A two bed is over 600 at both locations for that week. Many DVC feel they would rather stay at a Good Neighbor, whereas I was formerly a cash GC booker because of the gate.

I passed on a couple $150 VGC because I just didnt want to pay it. Now, sigh, you cant even find one period. But then again, dues are pretty serious and we aren’t billionaires... I feel like I could trade with the resort windows I have and I hope that in the future an exchange is born out of that demand. Only a new DVC at DLR could prob really get me reckless : D

Wow, you've have really good luck using your points at VGC! Yes when we first started looking into buying DVC, I also saw a $150pp contract and passed. We just closed on our 1st contract recently and I'm hoping to use some of the points at VGC next year. We don't have plans to go to WDW until summer 2020 so we have some points to spend. I do worry that the opening of SWL would shut out those who don't own there.

Wow, how long ago was VGC $150?! Unless Riviera is amazing I'm waiting for the new Disneyland DVC for my direct add on :)

Not long ago. Less than a year. Once direct went to $235ish it was game over.

We only started looking in April. Right after the price increase and 75 pt minimum. Despite holding Disney APs for the last 3 years and walking pass the DVC booths hundreds of times! :sad1:

Don’t think about it! It’s like airfare. Haha. The odd thing now is that direct is in play where as before it made zero sense. I think Riviera could be interesting becuase it sounds like it will be refined and an interesting location. If they are smart about room configurations, maybe that will be a good one to wait for. The full 50 years is a nice option. CCV is a refurb and part of another property with small rooms. Poly lost the plot with only studios and those crazy bungalows. VGF sold out pretty quickly. With the right mix, perhaps the next has got a good combo.

Fingers crossed for a new DLR DVC. Everyone says no way but I figure with Disney, where there is a will (and millions of dollars) there’s a way.

seems like that contract would be a good one for an investment if you were to focus on transferring one large block of points (say 300-400) to a buyer interested in doing a nice aulani trip and then using the rest of the points at 7 months like SSR.

considering SSR is going for like $100 right now, this seems like a pretty sweet deal.

This is a very interesting perspective. Most people buy SSR points (~$100pp) to sleep around at 7 months. With prices at AUL significantly lower (say ~$85pp), it could be worth it as a general use contract.

ADs at Aulani are 29% more than at SSR. ($7.54/point vs. $5.86/point). SSR still beats it out for sleeping around in the long run, fewer RTU years and higher buy in notwithstanding.
