I'm not sure where to put this. Mods if you feel it's in the wrong section please feel free to move it.

I have read several reviews about this ebook about saving money at Disney World. It is written by an ex-CM. Anyway, I'm not going to buy the book but I was just wondering where in the world she is getting that you can stay at at a "Disney 5-Star Resort: Retail cost $3,110 for 10 days My cost: $1,130" I'm assuming when she says 5-star resort she is talking about the deluxe resorts? I don't think you can stay at a deluxe resort for 10 days for $3,110 it's more than that! And she has to be applying some sort of room only discount and maybe saying go in the slow times in vaule season? Anyway, I would LOVE to know what her advise is on this. I have been to Disney more times that I can count and if there is some sort of SECRET out there to less expensive Disney vacations that I don't know about I need to know this!! ;)

Does anybody here has this ebook and can answer this for me???

Thanks :)

Yes I have that book and considering I have been a Disney Geek for while now, there was a LOT of info I didn't know in that book. My DMIL actually introduced it to me. We are going to WDW Oct9-15th and staying at the SSR DVC Villas. Disney's Rack Rate price is $4624 + 12.5%, we are paying using the DVC rental point system and only paying $2096 and no tax. That is more than a 50% savings. We are staying in a two-bedroom dedicated villa, here is a video of it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVxEGIMZZiY

The system seems a bit confusing at first. People by into timeshare with Disney of sorts, but they use POINTS to pay basically. There is no tax or basically tax is included in the price. Sometimes, DVC members can't use all their points or they by in specifically to rent them out for a profit. Each room is assigned a points value per night depending on the season. She gives you the list in the book. You have to add up the amount of points you need and then find a DVC member to rent the points out to you. You cannot buy points from different members and combine them to use, or at least how I understand it. Sometimes you can find someone last minute who will sell you points at a cheaper price $8-$10, but normally I have seen them go for $12-13.
So, basically, points have a monetary value and then when you rent the points, you can use them to stay at a DVC Villa. Basically. The person who you rent the points from will have to make the reservation for you and under there name with your family as guests. This seems a little strange, but it works out fine. Make sure they are a reputable business and or get references.
You get all the WDW benefits of staying on site for a very very cheap price.

It is totally worth it! If you decide you do not want a Villa or DVC room, she also shows you have to look for WDW discounts, but most people can tell you that here, including myself.

Look at the Villas at WDW to see if anything has what you want:

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I knew all about renting points from DVC members. The problem is I want to stay at places that are not DVC so that doens't help me. Thanks for the response! :)

It is a good book. A ton of information but nothing that i have really used. If you go to disney every couple of years and would really like to stay at deluxe villas instead of values or moderates then you might really want to check out buying into DVC through a resale company. It will cost you a good bit up front and there are monthly dues but you will save a lot of money in the long run if you buy a smaller point contract.

There are way to many ways to save going to the many Disney parks or other local powerhouses. Most people aren't gonna buy in bulk, but the easiest is doing one of the many timeshare deals. They're no purchase needed tours of nice resorts, and just for going and giving some of your time Disney vacations can be cut in half.
Vacationing is expensive, but it doesn't have to be.

I just wanted to share my DVC point rental experience.

I'm staying 9/8-9/17 at AKL Jambo House

For cash reservations in a non-DVC room [rack rate followed by 40% off AP rate)
Standard- $2565/$1539
Pool- $2717/$1630
Savannah View- $3324/$1994

Cost of 9 nights in a Value studio (which may have a standard, pool, or savannah view) $1170

So at a very minimum, I'm saving $370.... if I get a savannah view I'm saving $824

And having this rate locked in last November was great, not having to worry about discounts

Although it's been about 3 years ago, I was able to stay at the Wilderness Lodge for 9 days, 8 nights for about $2,200. Of course it wasn't a package but room only. That's not including tickets so maybe she was coming from that angle?:)

My cousin bought one of those for her trip, there was nothing ground breaking in it that a few minutes on the Dis or even in google you couldn't figure out. $1200 for 10 days which is actually 9 nights at WL isn't that much of a stretch. Even at 2011 rates the cheapest room in cheapest season is $260/night, lets give the AP discount of 45% off makes is $143 night x 9 nights =$1287. If that claim was from 2-3 years ago it probably was right. But you need to be AP holder to get that and travel during value season and get a standard room.

In my case it was value season. I got a AAA rate of $235/night for a courtyard view which was great for me because I originally booked a woods view hoping that I could possibly get a deal for courtyard. I called to see if I could at least get a AAA discount on the woods view and lo and behold, the CM told me that there were no more wood view rooms at that rate but that I could get a courtyard view for $100 less a night.:woohoo:
