I am not sure if I should be asking for your help on this site but here goes.
We are DVC members but are going to take a trip to Canada in Oct 2002,flying into Calgary, driving to Banff(4nights)Then drive to Jasper for 3 nights,Rocky mountain train to Vancouver for 5 nights then fly to Toronto for 5 nights.(Yes I know it sounds like a great trip)but what should we NOT MISS along the way. This will be our first trip to Canada and we would like to see as much as possible.
Thanks
Derek

Derek! WELCOME! You should get lots of wonderful info here! I live in a city beside Toronto called Mississauga, so I can help you out here. Are you travelling with children? Do you like plays? We have lots of things to do with children and have a very impressive art culture.

Here are a few things I might suggest in Toronto:

Lion King Show

Rainforest Cafe (either in Toronto or drive to Niagara Falls, which is about 1.5 hours drive)

Metro Toronto Zoo is lovely, lots of walking

Paramount Canadas Wonderland is our biggest amusement park

Toronto Island is a lovely way to spend the day. Beautiful gardens and a short 7 minute ferry boat ride to the Island

Ontario Science Centre

ROM (Royal Ontario Museum)

Casa Loma (A REAL CASTLE!)

LOTS MORE! Let's help Derek! Sandra

Hi Derek! It sounds like you're going to see a lot of the most beautiful parts of Canada! I've always thought it would be great to take that train trip across the Rockies.
If you'd like, maybe we could get a DIS meet set up for the time that You'll be in Toronto. Most of us are usually up for an excuse to get together, and what could be better than getting to meet one of our UK DISers!
I agree with Sandra that you should be sure to take the trip to Niagara Falls. It's one of the natural wonders of the world and is truly amazing to see.
If you're interested in history, Black Creek Pioneer Village in Toronto gives a good glimpse into how people lived when they got to Canada.
I would highly recommend the Lion King show. It's absolutely incredible! But if you want to be sure to get tickets for it, you might want to look into it now. It's usually sold out months in advance.
That's all that I can think to add right now. Anyone else got any advise for Derek?

Hi folks,

I know I've already posted a similar 'off-topic' post here, but I just wanted to say how much I loved my trip to Toronto in October. My family and I spent around five days in the city (just a city break) and had an amazing time visiting all the attractions, malls, and seeing the scenery on the way to Niagara Falls. It was so easy to get around the city... in fact we were staying near the Eaton Centre and one morning (one FREEZING morning!) we walked down ?university avenue, past the Canada Life building and then zigzagged our way to the CN Tower which was well worth it. Derek, if you go, please DO get the lift to the skypod (extra charge); the view is phenomenal. My mum had been to Niagara with her mother years ago and all I saw was photos of them standing on the esplanade overlooking the falls, so it was her dream to take her kids (ie us!) to see it too. This was one of my fondest memories and it was spectacular. We got a Greyhound trip and it was brilliant value. We passed through Niagara-on-the-Lake which I wished we'd had a chance to stop in. It was stunningly pretty. I cannot recommend this highly enough!!

Sister and I are both working as doctors over here (seems scary since I've only begun work since August 2001!) and we're hoping to eventually live and work in Canada. So far we've been drawn to vacancies in BC, so I'm hoping to make friends with some folks from that area (and any others! if you want to e-mail!). Planning to make a trip out to Vancouver and the surrounds in June for around 1 week (sadly that's all the time I've got off work!).

Please e-mail me and my sister Margaret if you want - we'd be thrilled to hear from you. By the way, we have been going round wearing official Canadian Olympic roots jackets for the last two weeks (trying to hide our UK 'roots'!!!)

;)

John

Thanks for your replies so far.
there will be 4 adults in our party and yes baboo a dis meet sounds good to me.
How do we book for the lion king show?have you got a web address we might try to get tickets from.
Sandra
Toronto Island also sounds very good, what is the paramount canadas park like?and can you buy tickets on the day.I also think john is right ,we will be going to the CN tower although one of our party is afraid of heights.Any one out there from Banff. Jasper or Vancouver.
Please keep the idea's coming as I am making a list of them all.
THANKS AGAIN
Derek

I would pick Toronto Island over Paramount Canada's Wonderland for you. It's just lovely! You can bought tickets as you walk into Wonderland, they are about $48.00 CDN each. I used to live in Vancouver in 1981. You can visit Stanley Park, it's nice. I only drove thru Banff and Jasper, took fast pix and off we went. Can you manage a fast WDW trip? LOL! From Toronto, you might get a reasonable airfare.
