DH's passport is due to expire this time next year. He travelled on this passport on our trip 2 years ago. Will it be okay does he need a visa and how much time has to be left on his passport when he travels??

You're supposed to have 6 or 9 months clear on it (can't remember which) but you will be fine with this passport:thumbsup2

I think most countries require you to have at least 6 months on your passport.

The US don't require any minimum time as long as the passport covers the length of the trip, but some airlines require a minimum length so best to check with the airline you are travelling with. If the passport has the machine readable code '<<<<<1234ferfe>>>>' on the details page then the passport is ok to use with the Visa Waiver. If you are not travelling until the autumn then it may be worth changing the passport now as he can get upto 9 months credited on it if renewed prior to the expiry date.

When I went in 2005 I only had 3 months on my passport and it was fine, I rang the embassy and Virgin to check and they said you only need the passport to be valid for the length of your trip.

The passport needs to be machine-readable and must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended date of departure from the US.

Here is the official information about the Visa Waiver Program. I see the UK is one of the countries exempt from the 6 month stipulation. I'm pretty sure Virgin have always told us we must comply with this regulation. :confused3

Looks as though we were posting at the same time, Claire. :)
