For those traveling via sea and rail from the UK to DLP from tomorrow don't forget to leave extra time for check-in as Exit Checks are being re-introduced by the Home Office on 8 April for all travellers leaving the country.

Broader Control officials will be scanning your passport on exit of the county and checking your identity.

I expect there will be some delays at ferry ports, EuroTunnel and St Pancras International while this new system is introduced.

Those flying should not experience any extra delays apart from the Strikes effecting flights in France tomorrow.

Confused.com..

Do you mean they are being introduced the 8th of April or that they were introduced on the 8th of March ?

I came back on Eurostar on the 25th of March and my passport was scanned by both the English and the French at St Pancras so I'm wondering what's new :confused3

8th April, although it is being rolled out slowly. They need to check 25% then build up to check 100% of travellers after the holidays. Many companies have already started it but it is going to be all of them eventually

Its been slowly rolled out to ports over the last few weeks but from tomorrow I understand that everyone leaving the UK will have to have their passport scanned and checked at all ports and train stations of departure.

There are exceptions for organised coach parties and school trips.

I've often joked with friends about the poor controls/checks when leaving the UK - certainly via Dover anyway.

All ten of our trips to France have been from Dover and with the exception of our first two trips, we've not had any passport checks on the way out at all.
The booth set up to do it has always been unmanned and the barrier left up to let everyone pass.

It's different on the return trips - they always get checked.
Fingers crossed people don't start seeing big delays...

Our immigration only work the other side, they have never manned the booths over hear. Its the French, they are sometimes there at the Tunnel

We came through the tunnel this morning expecting checks, and nothing. Just said are you English? Then waved us on as they did for the cars before and after us. Was surprised as we'd read to expect delays. Maybe they're still only doing a percentage? .

It is my understanding they are still doing a percentage, has to be at least 25% as it has been delayed being implemented to get the Easter school holidays out the way
