UK electrical stores?

My tumble dryer has just given up and, with our impending holiday rapidly approaching, I'm hoping to replace it ready for all that pre-trip laundry.

Do any of you know which, if any, stores carry stock of white goods that I could go in and pick up? All the ones I've used in the past few years (not very often, admittedly) only have display models, and you then have to wait for a week or so to arrange for delivery from the warehouse hundreds of miles away

I want to go in, see what I want, pay for it, and take it away with me in the boot of the car - not wait a week and then take time off work to sign for the thing when they decide they can deliver it!

Hi Hilary. I've bought my last dryer and then washer at our local Co-op supermarket. In the north west, bigger asda and Tesco stores also now carry a stock of hite goods...not the same mega choice as Currys etc, but much cheaper, in my experience. And if they have it, you can take it home!

Our local Co-ops aren't big enough to carry any items like this, but I have to go somewhere next week that has a huge Co-op, so I'll have a look there.

have you got a john lewis department store near where you live? they are very good when buying electricals, if they don't have what you want in stock they get it from their warehouse which i have only ever waited 2 days the most and they will price match the item if you find it cheaper anywhere else we have always had a good service from john lewis and their after sales are great(if something goes wrong)we now won't buy electricals from any where else

I agree with Eve. We went to the John Lewis store in Norwich and the Bosch Washing Machine we wanted was delivered within 24 hours - fantastic service!

Try VJ Baileys in 16 Talbot Road, Port Talbot. 01639 882141. Always a good selection and we get free delivery....not sure what it would be to Swansea.

They're opposite the British Legion, not far from Port Talbot Parkway Railway station.

We bought a condenser dryer from them over a year ago and it was delivered the next day at the time I asked for!!!

Looks like I'll have to put in a bit of leg-work to investigate our John Lewis and/or drive over to Port Talbot !

It's such a beautiful dry, sunny, windy day here today that tumble drying isn't on my agenda right at this minute - but I know it will be as soon as that wet stuff makes a comeback!

Yes - new dryer delivered and put to full use on Friday morning

In the end, I had decided on the model I wanted and was all set to order it when I thought I should just check the measurements, and ....... oops! The old dryer was a compact model and I'd assumed a full size one would fit the same gap

Eventually odered a cheap(ish) compact one from Comet - not the all-singing version I'd had my eye on, but it's here and it works! They were able to deliver when I wanted them to so I didn't have to take any time off work.
