Hi, I found out some information that you may find useful.

I was looking to buy a dress from a US website and called Customs to find out about the duty. I didn't keep a note of the Commodity Code that they use but the amount was 12%.

That is payable on the dress and the delivery, and then you add on VAT. Example:

Dress: £500
Delivery:£50
Total:£550

Duty:£66
Total:£616

Vat:£107
Total:£723

I went to talk to a bridal shop yesterday and, after some hard haggling and pushing, I couldn't have matched the price on the internet, or more importantly for me, the service.

Hope that helps :thumbsup2

Slightly unrelated, but I thought I would share. I'm in the UK and I just received my Victoria Secret order from the US. The cost of the items was £100, the cost of customs on top was £31. I can't recall the cost of shipping, but I was shocked at how expensive it was this time (I usually order from them and don't remember it being so expensive).

Saying that, the prices of dresses in the UK are terrible compared to the US!

victorias secret just went through a change in their warehouse right before christmas and they DID raise their shipping charges and it's taking forever to get anything.

Ahh, I see. I did think it was more expensive than usual - now I know why! DF was the parcel receiver as he was working at home and he had to pay the charge *oops*....
