Hi all, just wondered if anyone else is worried about how bad the $ is at the mo? It's making my wedding, like, 25% more money and so I gotta cut back on things! Do you think it will recover?
I'm not UK but I'm hoping it picks up again. I've heard theories that it'll pick up once we find out the outcome of the election but not sure how true that is. I've even heard that it may hit $1.60 to the euro so here's hoping. I've already started to look at things that I could possibly cut out in case it doesn't but am finding it v difficult.
i dont think it will pick up for a while, europe is heading for a recession and the $ is getting stronger, if anything it will get lower! then in a few months I think it will stablise but no where near the $2 mark.
The way all the stock markets are its droppipng by the hour so I cant see an end just yet with this.
When we started thinking about having a Disney wedding, it was around $2 to the £1. Now with the rate so low, we're paying so much more for the same amount of things. I don't want to have to cut back on the things that I want, but if the rate drops any more or doesn't stabilise, it's something we really have to think about.
I get married next week and weve been waiting ages for the exhange rate to go up and all its done is go down. Were gutted. With the amount of money we all have to change we need a good exchange rate. Unfortunately weve run out of time and had to get them. We got $1.51 to £1. How bad is that? It just means that were have to watch what were spending a bit more.
I've heard the rumour also that the exchange rate will be better after the election but the way things are with all the markets at the moment its hard to tell. If i where you when the exhange rate is good i would get your dollars.
We made the mistake of waiting but each day the exchange rate is changin by such a big amount. It used to just change by a bit.
Well fingers crossed for us all it goes up! This may be a dumb question, but when is the election? I'm gonna pay for as much as I can when it looks a bit better!

As far as I know the election is November 4th. I won't be able to pay for much then as our wedding isn't until April 2010 but I'll stock up on the dollars and start ordering our accessories off the net.
We're not too worried about our own costs as we took advice in the summer and opened a dollar account where we put all the bulk of the money at a good rate (accommodation/balance of wedding/balance of photography). We also have £500 of spending money ordered at a rate of 1.89 (fingers crossed nothinggoes wrong with Crown Currency!).
The biggest effect is that some of our guests may no longer be able to come as, coupled with much higher flight prices, they simply won't be able to afford it

The election will if anything help strengthen the dollar not the pound....A new president means the feel good factor for the USA and that in turn means the dollar will rally...Don't wait till after the election to buy dollars!!
The Au$ is now about .60c to the American $. When we over there in March it was about .98c. So it's really dropped. However it will be 2011 before our wedding I spose, So I'm not too concerned at the moment.
