Ugly Christmas Lights

I like them. :teeth: When it comes to Christmas lights I'm a Clark Griswold kind of girl, you can never have enough. ;)

Me too!

I don't like it when people are chintzy with their lights. We have a couple of houses around us, that just put up one strand of icicle lights on the front of their house and nothing else.

I'm the opposite. I don't like those kind of over the top displays. We have one strand of icicle lights, and some large colored lights on a few bushes. I would hate to be the neighbors of some of those houses!

What....??? You don't like my Christmas Juggling Monkeys!!?? :rotfl: ...........P

I'm not a fan of those new "blankets" of lights that you just drape over a bush and they are miraculously evenly spaces. They look too perfect and artificial - and too easy. Seems to me you must "suffer for your art". ;)

i just saw a photo of some guy (in florida i think) who has these 8 foot tall lighted (in hot pink) paris hilton themed christmas cards on his front lawn. the neighbors are NOT happy (paris is in some less than tasteful clothing and poses).

I'd rather have any number of lights, in any configuration, in my neighborhood than those trashy looking inflatables. Even Clark Griswold had better taste than that.

Personally I favor the simple border light concept, around the windows, around the roof, but I've seen some pretty creative designs too.

Me too...the more lights, the better.

I agree. However, that might be because it's DH's job to put up lights!

We have a couple of houses in our neighborhood that look like the homeowners bought every single blow up Christmas character, sign, light style at Big Lots and put it in their yard....It really looks like someone threw up Christmas on their front lawns....
Dont get me wrong I love Christmas lights on a house but some of these lawns have so much you cant see what it is...which takes away from the display....IMHO

Someone after my father's own heart!! One year we were at Disney, and he watched the people putting up the lights there--they have a technique of winding the lights around individual branches that my father claims gives the very best results (and his lights are always gorgeous). The saturday and sunday after thanksgiving, I remember following him around with a wheelbarrow full of lights...it was a two-day project! :goodvibes

He keept a tally of how many lights he used...he's well into the hundreds of thousands now...my mother makes him use only white so it doesn't look "tacky".

Ah, I was with you until the last line. We use only multi-colored light so it doesn't look "tacky". ;)

But we also don't use any of those evil inflatables and the lights only go on the bushes and such - not the house or mail box or whatever.

It's my mother's idea, not mine. I did my apartment this year in red, white and blue--pretty cool if I do say so myself.

And so universal!! It could be a French tree, or a Russian tree, or an American tree, or Texas, or Ohio...Puerto Rico.... :p

I like the blanket lights maybe because I'm so sloppy by nature. ;)

I also think that some of the inflatables are cute except when they're deflated. It's looks too much like something died in people's front yards. :)

My pet peeve is the odd colored icicles. You know pink or green. They just don't look right to me.
