I just can't seem to find a good rate for a mini-van for October. I need a 16 day rental with unlimited mileage for driving round trip to WDW from Connecticut. My wife just will not fly (even though I make my living a s a pilot).

Do you think that better deals will be coming out as we get closer to October? Do you know of any companies offering good deals now?

I am shooting for $300/week, that way after the extra two days plus taxes keep it around $800 total. I certainly can do with a smaller car, but I HATE being cramped for that long of a drive (plus, I am traveling with two women, so you can just imagine the amount of luggage and gifts).

Thanx in advance for your input!

If your a DC member there is a 20% coupon for Alamo, but not sure of the expiration rate. Enterprise usually has great weekly rates. Ask for their VIP rate, they may give it to you.

I am in CT too and we looked at it. The only option we have is Bradley (20 minutes away) for rental cars. We were looking at $1000 for 2 weeks! Thats just nuts! I tried a few of the places that I had coupons for with my entertainment book and still, $1000 for the 2 weeks. Wasnt worth it with the gas and tolls and hotel stay. We rented a van for 2 weeks at Orlando for $461 with all taxes, and the airfare should be about $600... so thats the same as the rental from here! Its just crazy! STeph

Update, I just went through www.orbitz.com and found a rate of $309 per week at Bradley through Alamo, National was $312... that is for October...

There are some companies out there that offer short-term leases. AutoEurope is one I have used for overseas, but I think they have expanded to the US now.

You could try Priceline. You determine how much you want to spend and one of the car companies decides if they want to accept or not.

We rent out of Bradley also. I'm renting a full size from Hertz for 12 days for a total of $402 in October. Hoping for an upgrade to premium vehicle with a coupon from AAA. Hertz costs a few more dollars but I find them well worth it. Cars are always low mileage and ready and waiting when I arrive. Being a #1 Gold Club member helps and you can usually join for free through your employer. You'll enjoy the better service and no waiting. Just pick up your car and go. I've even changed the car they had waiting once because I didn't like it.

I just tried 16 days in October, the 15th - 31st, and came out with $879 with the AAA discount. You have to remember that you're going during the peak leaf peeping season and all the good discounts are blacked out for that time.

I check weekly for better deals and if I come across any for a van I will let you know. Personally, I would go for the premium if you want the exta room. We rented a van once and the premium was a lot more comfortable for the three of us. You usually get a Mercury Marquis or a Toyota Avalon. Last time I recieved the Avalon and loved it.
