I've never been to Victoria & Albert's. My kids are too little to go there (they allow children ages 10 and older only). On our 2012 trip, DH and I will be doing one dinner alone and putting the boys into the kids' club over at the Beach Club Resort. We will either go to a signature restaurant or to V&A's. A lot of it will depend on how much V&A's costs, but as long as they still take the TIW card by then, 20% off is a great deal there, so I will have to crunch numbers and see.
Wow! That's gonna be one TOUGH decision to make! 1 restaurant out of all the Fabulous places including V&A's!?!?!I wish you all the luck in the world!
You're gonna need it!
The Premier Pass sounds like a great deal for you guys for 2012!! Go for it! Go for the TIW card too, you will save a lot on TS and drinks!! And you can order whatever you want and it is all discounted. So if you don't want that app that you normally get on the deluxe dining plan, you could get 2 desserts instead...HELLO!!!!
It really does right? And DUH! Of COURSE I'd be getting two desserts instead of the apps! Great minds think alike!
The only DVC resort that is on the monorail is Bay Lake. The Villas at Wilderness Lodge is in the MK area, but not on the monorail. It's a boat ride away (I think they also have a bus option for MK). A Bay Lake DVC membership would cost more, because it is so new. There are some resales though, but they are pricey since it is so new and desireable. You could get a room with a view of the castle...they even pipe the music from Wishes to your TV!!!! And if you don't have a view of MK, there is the Top of the World Lounge which is only open to people staying at Bay Lake, where you can watch Wishes and they also pipe in the music from the show! We talk about maybe staying there one day, but it is a LOT more points for a 1-bedroom MK View over there than it is for a standard 1-bedroom at Boardwalk.
Oh yes, forgot WL gets to MK by boat...I wonder how long it takes to get to the MK from WL?![]()
This is TOO awesome! Talk about a dream come true, right?! Relaxing in your pajamas, sipping on a beverage, eating chocolate covered stawberries, watching and listening to Wishes from your room...ahhh...Oh yeah, I'm sure the prices are CRAZY for a room there! But i'm sure it's so worth it!
You could also stay at Grand Californian Villas at Disneyland with your points! It's the first DVC resort on the west coast! We plan to do that one day with the boys. When they are much older (maybe around 10 and 12), we would like to drive across country one summer and go to Disneyland on our points, if GCV is available 7 months out. Otherwise we would just stay somewhere else. They are also in the process of building a DVC resort in Hawaii, which should be open some time during 2011. That's also a possibility for us in the future...but the very far future!!!
Yes, I was thrilled to hear that the DLR opened up some Villas! And they are gorgeous! We were going to take a tour one day, but were running out of time, so maybe soon! Wanna head over to DL before our AP's run out (not renewing until 2011...) We were also talking about the Hawaii resort too!!! So many things to do, not enough time it seems!!!!
Glad you found my pre-TR!!! I replied to you over there too!![]()
We leave tomorrow for 6 nights of DDP! I have told my husband (and anyone else who will painfully pretend to listen) that i am going to eat filet or scallops or lobster everyday! We have 5 dinners reserved...Yachtsman, Jiko, Citricos, Narcooses and Flying Fish. Anyway, thanks for your wonderful pictures and report! I'm so wanting that filet from Jiko right now!!
Hi Lesha,
Just found this gastronimically yummy Trip Report. I have been sitting at workwhere I do all my best DISing (in Long Beach no less) for the past two hours reading this. I am so happy to be looking at all this food porn as I eat my leftover dinner for lunch.
You are such a funny and descriptive writer, and I look forward to more Dining trip reports.
Jiko looks fantastic!!! We will definitely try it one day. I keep reading wonderful things about that place, and I love the Animal Kingdom Lodge...so cozy and beautiful!!
Awesome review of Jiko! We ate there in 2007 and absolutely loved it! I had the Chermoula Tanglewood Chicken and my DH had the Curry Shrimp and both were fantastic! We're not going this time (we're trying Boma instead...never been, but have heard awesome things) but I was so happy to see the pics of the resort. We're going to stay there in June and we totally hadn't planned on it! We had been booked at Pop, but when they extended the deals into the summer we were able to upgrade to AKL!!! I am soooooo beyond excited because this is my dreamDisney resort (probably because my dream vacation is an African safari)!!!!!
I am, however, very sad that your reviews are coming to a close! They have been totally fab!
We love JIKO as well but I have to say when we went last October we decided to try the filet because everyone raves about it. We were so sad we didn't get our tried and true short rib and maize crusted fish. The filet just didn't WOW us like the other amazing dishes at JIKO.
So sad to see your reviews coming to an end.![]()
Wow, you have totally won me over! Fiance read along with me and we definitely want to try there!!
My families are planning to go there as well. What a fantastic trip we are going to experience!!!
really fantastic... it looks comfortable and beautiful...really good
Its 8:25 am and I want steak! That was a really good review. Wonder if I can convince the DBF to swap Jiko for something.....probably not! But I hope we will be going on another trip to WDW and I will for sure be making an ADR for Jiko!
Again, great reviews! Cant wait for our trip to try all this food out!
Cheers!
Happy Belated Birthday Lesha ! You and my DH have the same birthday![]()
I finally caught up with my reading and I have to say I could taste the heavenly greasyness( is that a word? LOL)of the onion rings, burger and fries at the Sci Fi....went there years ago when DS (then MGM) first opened and have not been back since..Hmmm Maybe this trip ?
Jiko looked interesting last time I stayed at AKL I tried Boma's and loved it , maybe I will make and ADR for Jiko in November. I have to decide soon my date to make ADR's is coming up.
Totally enjoyed your TR and all the great pics![]()
Hi Lesha!
DH & I are staying at AKV this September and making Jiko our last night's dinner, too! I have been twice- once for dinner with a girlfriend, and once for the family style dinner after the Wanyama Safari with MORE gorlfriends! But this will be DH's 1st visit- I hope he's going to enjoy it as much as I have in the past!
So sad to see your reviews end- they were EXCELLENT!!
Ellen
Wow! Jiko!
We are soooo looking forward to eating here in August (124 days and counting!) and your fantastic review just makes me even more eager!
I'm very disappointed though that you didn't try the Swahili shrimp curry - as that's what I've got earmarked!
loved the jiko review!
Ok, you are a total rock star with food reviews!
Thanks for an awesome dining report!
I'm so sad your review is starting to come to an end.
It has kept me through my lack of Disney after my return from the World. I will look on the bright side, in nine daysbanana: yay count em! Single digit time!
) The Food & Wine Festival starts in DCA and I'm doing something there every weekend but one!
I will miss your cheerful reviews and wonderful pictures, you will have to tell us a final tally on how the DxDDP worked out and even with missing the Yachtsman did you make out OK and get your money's worth? You two certainly had PLENTY of GREAT food!
I just found your reviews today and have only read the Jiko one so far...you already have me drooling and I know just what I'm going to order when we try Deluxe Dining for the first time in May. BBQ Chicken Flatbread, Filet and the chocolate trio, yum.
Thanks for the review, now I'm off to read the rest.
I am also sad that your reviews will soon be coming to an end!! But, we will stay in touch through my new pre-TR and then when I come back I will write dining reviews...wait a sec...I don't even wanna THINK of when I come back from my trip!!!
Which part of Pennsylvania are you going to this summer? If it is Eastern PA, it is pretty close to NYC. To give you an idea, Philadelphia is only about an hour and a half away. Lancaster County is about 2 and a half hours away, but Hershey is a bit further (about 3 hours away), the Poconos are 2 to 3 hours away, depending on the area you are going to there. If you are going to western PA, it will take you all day to drive to NYC.
We actually drove to Lancaster, PA for a day trip this past October, the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. My parents, sister, her fiance and my nieces were there from Friday to Sunday of that weekend. We (all the adults, that is) arranged it so that DH and I would drive the boys there early in the morning, and we would meet them at their hotel. But, none of us told the kids...we left it a surprise. That morning, we just told the boys we were going somewhere in the car that was a little far away, and they thought we were taking them to Sesame Place again! When we got to Lancaster, my older son recognized the area from 3 months before when we had last been down there! When we got to the hotel, the rest of the family was at breakfast. We went into the restaurant lobby and when they all walked out, the kids were all SOOOOO surprised, it was priceless! They all really were surprised. We took all of them to Dutch Wonderland (a theme park for little ones) right after that and we had a great day!!! It was a very tiring day but a lot of fun and so worth it.
Of course, while we were in PA, we just HAD to go to the Outlet stores and of course straight for the Disney Outlet!! I had been looking for a Tinkerbell costume, but they only had children's sizes there. I ordered one online when we got home. I dressed up for Halloween as Tinkerbell (at my sons' requests!)...I went the whole nine yards...shimmery make-up, put my hair up and had the Tink tiara, the wand, etc. I rang my mom's bell and she freaked out...the first thing she said to me..."You should totally dress as Tinkerbell when we go to Disney and see who tries to stop and take their picture with you!"My older son dressed as Sulley and the little one as Mike Wazowski (main characters from "Monsters, Inc."). DH dressed up as Charlie Brown from "The Great Pumpkin" by taking a white sheet, cutting holes all over the place and he took a huge paper bag and wrote on it in big letters, "I GOT A ROCK!" It was hilarious going around the neighborhood like that!!!
OK, enough of me babbling now...I tend to go off on way too many tangents! So, you still have a review or 2 left right?![]()
Jiko sounds great. That filet looked so yummy!
We tried Jiko when it first opened and I must say we were not impressed at all (when comparing to Narcoosee or CA Grill). I think they must have had some "jitters" that night b/c every review since has been terrific.
So Jiko is back in our to do list.
Oh no, I can't see your Jiko pics![]()
Maybe some Disney trivia buff out there knows when they changed MGM to Disney Studios, I think when I was there in 2006 it was still MGM but was DHS last year. Blasphemy eh? Naw was only there for a quick weekend Friday till Monday so one night was dinner at Coral Reef in Epcot and one night room service, besides I knew I would be back to AKL just did not know it would take me so long to get there![]()
Oh my goodness those pictures of Jiko look so good. I was going to make a ressie there, but my husband is such a darn picky eater. I picked the Cali Grill instead, but your review has me thinking I might change my mind. Also, I have never seen the AK Lodge before.
Yeah, let's not talk about your return trip quite yet!!! You haven't even left! And I'm definitely gonna be over on your Pre-TR and can't WAIT for your dining reviews!!! Especially the clam bake, WCC, and akershus! I'm really hoping you'll take some pics!
Well, we're actually staying in York, which is less than 30 mins from West of Lancaster...so I guess it would really be like 3 1/2 hours to get to NYC right??
What a fun surprise for your boys!!! Can't believe your oldest son remembered where he was!!! Man what a memory! Perhaps he can give me some of his!Ah yes, Dutch Wonderland! I was there when I was about 3...don't remember much but have pics...it seems like a lot of that area in PA is geared towards children...Sesame Place, Dutch, lots of kids museums, etc...at least that's what it seemed like on Jon & Kate Plus 8 whenever they went on outings!!
Guess not much for adults to do, but...drink? I guess?!?! Whenever we've over there, we go down to the inner harbor in Baltimore, or have been to a baseball game and watched the Orioles...Hopefully we'll find more stuff to do this time around!
Omgosh!!! You were Tinkerbell!?! How adorable!! And I LOVE Monster's Inc!!! Probably my all time fav Pixar movie! I would watch that movie ALL THE TIME!!...how old am I again??? HAHA! I bet your hubby looked so funny!! I wish I could get my DH to dress up for Halloween..it's probably gonna get overdone this Halloween, but I really want to be Alice or the White Witch from Alice in Wonderland...DH could make a great Mad Hatter with the right make-up!!!![]()
I will try to take some pics at the restaurants...but...I KNOW DH and the rest of the family will definitely make fun of me!!!!Ahh, what the heck...they make fun of me anyway! DH especially.
But he loves how I do all this vacation planning...he doesn't like doing it, but he loves reaping the benefits! His attitude is, "I don't know Bon...I can't figure out where I will want to eat dinner in 6 months!!!! You decide, I'm sure I'll like it and it will be a good restaurant!"
AMATEUR!!!!!
Oh, btw, don't worry about liking Monsters, Inc. I'm a huge baby and I get excited taking my kids to the kiddie amusement parks, but I have an excuse to go there now, I have kids! So, it's like I have an official license to go see Disney movies at the theatre, to constantly watch Pixar movies in my house, to watch Cinderella over and over again, to keep buying Disney movies as they get released each year to add to the *kids'* collection!! Please...I'm probably looking forward to Disney World just as much as my kids are...if not even more!
OK, I really have to take a break from the boards now and go make dinner!!
this was my favorite dining review to read ever. It was very funny and informational. Thanks for taking the time.
