So I called at 9:00 this morning to finally make our purchase! It took me over 5 hours to get ahold of somebody, but I finally did (although it was my doing, not theirs).

Now they are giving me the line about being "out of luck" on the incentive!!!!!!!!!! I explained that, before I even left Ohio in June, I did not want that whole 3-day-window thing to happen to me. I was advised by these boards (and correctly, I think) to call and make my first contact before visiting, and I should be fine.

I called Guide #1 (my request/referred guide) at that point, and told him my concern. I told him that we would never even take the tour, if that was going to be an issue -- because we absolutely were NOT buying until July or August. He told me it was no problem, since we got the paperwork ahead of time, that rule wouldn't apply.

Well now, I talk to Guide #2 (who we toured with, and were really turned off by) and he acts like I'm a complete idiot. "Who told you a thing like that?" Were his exact words. So I told him that #1 and others had all assured me of that, and that (I thought) I had taken the appropriate steps to make absolutely certain that this would not happen. He tells me he has to talk to his manager, and he'll try to call me back later today with an answer.

I thought this was the easiest part!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :confused3 :guilty: Please tell me that this doesn't have to be indicative of our "future" with DVC! :sad2:

Suddenly this process isn't as exciting as it is disheartening!

ETA: Ok, I'm on hold now to get this guide thing straightened out. I am being connected to a manager to have only guide #1 listed, and hopefully not have to deal with #2 again. He is pushy and rude, and I'm not even sure how we got put on "his list" to begin with! That and the fact that, really I feel like we should deal with one person all the time anyway, so we get some consistency! So I'd rather it be someone I at least trust!

Ok, my faith may be restored

I spoke with a manager named Tony, who was absolutely a Disney-standard, top-notch CM as far as I could tell from a 5 minute conversation with him. Supposedly, the guide thing is taken care of. I'm not sure about the incentive issue, but he told me he would call Guide #1 and tell him I am expecting his call, and that I will be working with him from this point on.

He was very reassuring and even somewhat apologetic on rude-guide #2's behalf

Hopefully, if this person is as great as I think he is (from various DISboard reviews, and my first several phone calls with him in the last month or two), then I should be much happier before this day is over! :thumbsup2 If nothing else, I trust this guide 150% more, so hopefully at least I will feel like I'm hearing the truth. Or, you know, that he's at least LISTENING to me -- which is something #2 also fails to do.

Sorry for the rant! This is just a big deal to us, and something we've worked VERY hard to make happen! Now I just want it to happen! :rotfl:

GOOD LUCK AND :wizard:

so what was the incentive that they were refusing?

Just the same one that has been offered for several months... The "saratoga savings" of $8/point or "magical beginnings" of $15/point.

We kept waiting to hear about this rumored 'new' incentive in July, but can't put this off any longer! Well, or so we thought. DVC apparently thinks we can wait, since they could have had all our money hours ago! :rotfl:

Well, it's done!

Guide #1 got ahold of me and apologized for the mixup before. He said that, in fact, since I ever stepped on property for a tour, my time had techincally expired. He also said though, since it was a misunderstanding (which was actually his fault since I wrote everything down explicitly when we talked in June, but who's keeping track  ) he had already got an exception approved before calling. And he apologized again.

We chatted a bit, he's a trillion times more friendly than Guide #2, and everything's settled! I even felt comfortable asking him about a different UY than they were offering, which works better for us (not to mention gives us more points at the start, although they'll mostly be banked).

This is what some people like Guide #2 don't get. I'm not irrational. I'll be patient and work out whatever needs worked out (since you know they aren't just going to hang up and give up on me, if I'm willing to give them money). Just be kind about it! And open your ears instead of cutting me off and trying to predict what I'm saying. :rotfl: I did get the (maybe obligatory) speech telling me that "my colleague that you talked to earlier" is really a great guy, will help you out if you need anything in the future, yada yada yada. I listened, but don't plan on dealing with him in the future, nonetheless.

So I haven't called MS to verify that we're in the system yet, but - assuming there were no glitches or anything at the DVC office in the last few minutes - all should be taken care of!

Were you able to get a different UY?

Good to hear things are working out.

Yep! It wasn't our first choice, but it still gave us 2005 points (or at least half of them, depending on who I talk to this week at MS and what they'll let me bank), and falls at a better time for our travel. Thank you!

That's great! You should be able to bank all of the 2005 points, based on reports from other new members in the same situation. So.... Welcome home!!

Welcome Home!

Hey...what took you so long??? :rotfl2:

Welcome aboard. I just signed my paper work last week. It took us a year to commit to buying a DVC and we can't be more pleased. Our first guide last year was a great guy, unfortunately, he no longer works for Disney. DVC assigned another guide and I have to say we were very pleased with him. He was very prompt in returning phone calls and answered all of our questions with complete confidence. We liked the extra points for 2005 and the proration of this years maintenace fees helped us to commit to buy. I am just thrilled that will never have to stay at any of the Disney value resorts again, which was a point that our guide made that Disney designed the value resorts for large groups like church groups, cheerleading camp and that sort of thing. The process was easy for us . I don't think you will be disappointed!

The take home message for those looking to buy is that the 3 day window starts with the tour no matter what they tell you when you call.

Congrats!! I am glad it all worked out for you. My husband and I actually purchased a few weeks ago and got a Feb. 06 UY, which was the best think for us becuase I could bank those points for a 2007 Christmas vacation. I am glad you got the December 05 UY like you wanted (although it sounds like you went through some hastle :). Anyhow, Congrats and welcome home neighbor!

Very true! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! I can't imagine buying without having these boards as a resource first! I appreciate all the help. :goodvibes
