UGH! Jerk on the road vent...

Really no need for that, was there? Didn't stop him, did it?
Then what in the heck are they there for? Decoration? A horn is often used to tell an inattentive idiot that they are about to slam into your car and that they need to get their heads out of their rear and watch what they are doing and where they are going.

I believe I already addressed that I shouldn't have reacted the way I did, so there's no need for the scolding.

And for the record I disagree with you about the horn. There's nothing wrong with honking at someone who is about to hit you in the process of cutting you off.

I swear, you can't say anything on the disboards without some self-righteous person going off on you. I was upset and it's just a vent. If you don't agree with it, you can always say nothing. Like the old saying goes: if you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all.:confused3

:thumbsup2

Maybe the other driver didn't see the OP and it was an innocent mistake? Beeping the horn was probably OK, if the driver didn't see the OP originally he now knows to be more careful. Giving the finger was just not necessary.

He zipped right past me so he could cut me off, so yes, it is very reasonable to assume he saw me. Even if he hadn't, wouldn't it also be reasonable to expect him to NOT try and change lanes if he's not sure other cars are around? That's how you get into accidents. I am always baffled at people who want to take the bad driver's side in these situations. :confused3

And again, I established in my OP that giving the finger was not right. Let's not beat a dead horse here.

In Michigan it is road rage and a felony. Like I said, I've done it a couple of times myself, and I'm always embarrassed and ashamed after I do it. The other thing is, ya have to be careful doing that....because there are some drivers who carry guns, and they might just decide to pull the gun out, and blow your head off (sorry to sound so graphic), but it really can be dangerous, in more ways that one.

Best of luck to you in your future driving endeavors.

I always regret giving the finger right after I do it, for that main reason. People are insane anymore, and you're right. You can end up getting shot. I've had people go off their rocker from just a honk. Usually I give a quick glance to see what the person looks like before I honk, but I didn't this morning, and it was too quick.

Ugh, the worst experience I've ever had was when I honked at this girl who cut me off. We were on a road going 45 mph and she slammed on her breaks and came to a complete stop, trying to get me to rear-end her. I got in the other lane to get away from her and she was weaving into my lane to make it look like she was going to hit me. We were next to each other at a red light and she was gesturing and screaming like I'd never seen anymore do before. All because of a honk. No middle finger from me that time. I was scared to honk at anyone for a long time after that. I was shaking like a leaf. I really should have reported her to the police, but I didn't. It's okay....KARMA!

Then what in the heck are they there for? Decoration? A horn is often used to tell an inattentive idiot that they are about to slam into your car and that they need to get their heads out of their rear and watch what they are doing and where they are going.

My thoughts exactly!:thumbsup2

Next time blow a kiss to them instead of flipping them off...

I have done that before!! :rotfl: Smile, wave, blow a kiss, laugh. They don't know what to do and get this confused look on their face. Once, a woman took off. I think I scared her. :rotfl2:

If you walk two inches behind someone, that would definately be considered threatening behavior, so why is it any different when driving?
It's not. Its dangerous when walking, and dangerous in a vehicle. The difference is people feel safe in their vehicles. They think they are invincible, and they think they can piss people off at will with no repercussions. What they aren't considering is that's a FARCE! Your NOT safe in your vehicle, and I've never yet to see a vehicle that can outrun a 357 magnum.
If people used the same respect in vehicles as they generally do while walking in the mall, we'd be much better off. That's why I play Grand Theft Auto!!!:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::happytv: So I can get it out of my system... or perhaps that's why it's in my system to begin with...

PS I'm glad to see someone else misspells "definitely". That word gets me every time.

I drive a long ride each way and found out a long time ago to just let things go.

This goes double for free for areas like toll booths and areas like that. The OP should have avoid the horn but hey it happens. Flipping off the other driver was silly and could lead to trouble that is not worth it.

If you know you are heading into areas like the toll booth, just be aware, and let things go. Just going to escalate matters by giving rude jesters and/or laying on the horn. We all got a family to go home too.

No, when my personal safety is at risk, I'm not going to just "let things go."

I'm sorry...a free for all area? Meaning what? You don't feel that after exiting a toll booth that you should continue to go straight and not swerve in front of other drivers?

If you know you are heading into areas like the toll booth, just be aware, and let things go. Just going to escalate matters by giving rude jesters and/or laying on the horn. We all got a family to go home too.

Again, completely ignoring the actions of the other driver and focusing on what I did instead. My "rude gestures" and honking aren't going to cause an accident and cause him to not go home to his family, but his driving might.

And that's why it's called an accident, SOMETIMES you don't see the person. Have you ever heard of a blind spot? I certainly wasn't taking sides, just making a suggestion. I see people changing lanes and cutting people off ACCIDENTALLY quite often.

I would agree with you that accidents do happen (or they'd call them on-purposes!) except drivers need to know about their blind spots and check them before just assuming no one is there.

I would have honked, flipped him off, and then tried to cut back in front of him. Yes, yes I would.

Yes, I have heard of a blind spot, thank you. And there was no possible way I was in a blind spot for him. You weren't there. I was, and I think I know what I'm talking about. Besides, blind spots aren't a valid excuse for hitting someone. Have you ever heard of counting "1 one-hundred, 2 one-hundred" and checking your mirror again before changing lanes? Seems to work to keep me from plowing into other people if I'm in a situation where I'm concerned about blind spots.

I see people changing lanes and cutting people off PURPOSELY far more often!

Why are you trying so hard to defend this guy's actions anyway? Do you know him personally?:rotfl:

:rotfl::lmao:

I had a funny thought about what it would be like if, while walking down the mall, we all acted the way we do on the road. Picture it....

I come up behind a slow, elderly woman with a walker. I yell "come on grandma" and run around her and cut her off.

Someone walks out of a store and steps in front of me, so I have to slow down. I walk 2 inches behind them for the rest of the way down the mall just to make them mad.

A group of people are walking toward the escalator. I run around everyone to get on first. They scream at me and I give them the finger.

:rotfl: Just some silly thoughts - we do all act crazy out there sometimes don't we?

:lmao: Hilarious!!!! I love it!!! And yes, we ALL act crazy sometimes, maybe some of us should remember that. :) (not the OP)

Maybe the other driver didn't see the OP and it was an innocent mistake? Beeping the horn was probably OK, if the driver didn't see the OP originally he now knows to be more careful. Giving the finger was just not necessary.

How can you think he didn't see her? Seriously? He had to cut in front of her, he saw her for sure, he just didn't care.

Next time blow a kiss to them instead of flipping them off...

I've done that before! LOL That really freaks them out, they expect you to get mad and flip them off, but the blown kiss really just messes with theirs heads! LOL

Oh man, I have experienced that before.....I actually did call the police while driving to let them know, they told me hang back just far enough that she couldn't hit me and they'd be right out. Well, she ended up turning before they got there so I don't know what happened, I didn't follow, but man that was scary!!!! I was so glad my kids weren't with me then.

I drive a long ride each way and found out a long time ago to just let things go.

Free for areas? HUH? Toll booths are not free areas, each booth has an exit lane, that then merges into another lane and another and another and so on until your back to the original 3 or 4 lanes you had. You still have to watch those around you!! Going thru a toll booth doesn't give you a free pass to be a jerk.

OP, I had a similar situation at a toll booth. I came thru the toll booth thru our fastrak lane (it's a prepaid lane that we have), these lanes are to the far right so they come out into the "fast" lane, the particular one I tend to use comes out into the actual lane and others have to merge into that lane, well I drive thru (fastrak users don't have to slow down as much as others who are paying cash, we go thru at 25-45 mph) at about 30-35 and start to accelerate to the speed limit. Well from the far left lane (there are probably 12 toll booth lanes) comes this little car just flying across all the lanes, he was actually driving diagonally! LOL It looked very comical until I realized he thought he was going to drive THRU me and then I got a bit annoyed. LOL I didn't speed up for him, he had to slow down to move over behind me, well he gets behind me and starts honking at me, I look in my mirror, he's making hand gestures, yelling, flipping me off and he's so close he's about to run into me. So being the pleasant person I am I slow down....LOL We are now in the merged 3 lanes and I slow down to match the speed of the cars in the other 2 lanes, that really made him happy  so he tried more road raging on me and I just laughed at him, blew him a kiss or two via the rear view and drove just over the speed limit for a while. Then he tried to pass and I just laughed at him, he went over to the slow lane then merged back, got in front of me and slammed on his brakes to try to make me hit him, but I'd already changed lanes so instead he almost got hit by a CHP! LOL That was the BEST part...he certainly got his in the end, when the officer pulled him over I stopped as well and explained what happened at the toll plaza, the officer was not happy with him. :)

The best tho was my neighbor was backed out of his driveway and tried to make me hit him, he then blocked the road and wouldn't let me by, called me all kinds of nice names and told me how he had the right of way to back up, which is not right at all. I called the police but he left before they were able to dispatch anyone out, in fact he left as soon as he realized I was on the phone. 2 days later I was outside with my DBF and the guy wouldn't even look at me, I said "oh honey, that's the guy who almost hit me and then called me all kinds of names, remember I told you and the police about that" and he refused to look our direction. LOL

Oh and yesterday I had someone in a Suburban move over in front of me with NO warning, not enough room and it was POURING buckets of rain, the first rain so the roads are already slick. She was lucky I could stop...minivans have car brakes but the weigh more then cars do! People don't realize that either......

Bullies, they always feel stronger and tougher behind the wheel of a car......

Oh my gosh, Handbag Lady.....you're an evil woman.

How can you think he didn't see her? Seriously? He had to cut in front of her, he saw her for sure, he just didn't care.

Bingo.:thumbsup2 And last time I checked - people that make an honest mistake don't roll down their window and hold up their middle finger at you for 30 seconds.

Did you give her license number to the police? I was so shaken up that I didn't even get her number. Yep, so scary and very good that your kids weren't with you!

Yeah, you would think they'd at least drive safer in a driving rain storm. Oh, if only I had a dollar for every moron who doesn't have his/her headlights on in a driving rainstorm....

Bullies, they always feel stronger and tougher behind the wheel of a car......

Yep!

Didn't sound like an 'accident' by the way the op described the situation. The guy deliberately cut in front of her and didn't like being called out on it.

Sure, there are accidents, but there is a difference between something being an accident, vs. doing it deliberately. I say it was deliberate.

I love that story!! It always feels so good when they get theirs in the end!! He probably saw you pulling over to talk to the cop and knew he was really screwed then. :rotfl2::worship:
