So on my drive to work every morning I go over a bridge and through a toll plaza. You really have to watch people after you go through it because they will just cut you right off, since there are no lines on the road for about 20 feet.

So this morning I had just gone through it and this jerk in a little Nissan practically side-swipes me and cuts me off, just barely missing the front corner of my car. I of course lay on the horn. When the traffic stops ahead of us I can see him giving me dirty looks in his side mirror. So I flipped him off, which I'm not proud of and have been trying not to do, but I was really steamed and it happened. He rolls down his window and is waving his middle finger at me like mad. It's just amazing to me! Yes, I could have withheld the finger, but why when people cut you off, pull out in front of you, etc. and you call attention to what they did, do they get all PO'ed at you?? I'm sorry, did you not understand you almost got into an accident with me? Do you not understand that maybe I might be a little upset at what you did?? MAN, people are ignorant!:headache:

Okay, vent over.

Okay, vent over.

I have wondered this too:rolleyes: Happens alot to me:rolleyes1
:hug:to you:goodvibes

Really no need for that, was there? Didn't stop him, did it?

And it escalates and escalates. Vent all you like. That's probaby what he's doing if he hasn't already forgotten the incident.

I believe I already addressed that I shouldn't have reacted the way I did, so there's no need for the scolding.

And for the record I disagree with you about the horn. There's nothing wrong with honking at someone who is about to hit you in the process of cutting you off.

I swear, you can't say anything on the disboards without some self-righteous person going off on you. I was upset and it's just a vent. If you don't agree with it, you can always say nothing. Like the old saying goes: if you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all.:confused3

Well, in this case, it sounds like you might have been dealing with a genuine aggressive driver. But I've been out there for the past few months trying to teach my 16 year old how to drive and am astounded by how quickly middle fingers pop up for every little thing. I do understand that your situation was scary. But we've been given the finger over going the speed limit or under and every other little thing. It's on my last nerve. I just love what people are teaching my son about life on the road. Again, not directed at you, but my perspective has quickly become a little different and I've come to realize that people make mistakes on the road. All of us do - *stuff* happens. Best thing we can do is just watch out for that and stay safe.

I lay on my horn whenever I have to slam on my brakes because some moron is cutting me off or blowing through a stop sign. They always give me the finger. They are really "special" aren't they. vent away all you want, but just know that they are really in the wrong and they will cause an accident someday and they will have to pay for it. They just will not learn though because obviously they are more important than you.

If you honk the horn because they are in the wrong, know tha that is enough. Don't give them the finger.

You're so right!:wizard: And I really am trying to not give people the finger. This was the first time in a while. If all else fails, I can always tape my fingers together!:lmao:

By the way Lora, LOVE your avatar picture! ;) You are so lucky you got to meet Jonathan.

That's exactly what the poster did here, was to vent. A perfectly normal thing to do.

And I might add, from the way the poster described the situation, the other driver was in the wrong, so I'm not sure why you are defending that.

Crazy drivers never seem to amaze me.
One thing to do is to carry a camera with you. Yes, a plain old 35mm or digital camera. Then when they pull up beside you waving the one finger salute kindly grab your camera and snap a picture of them. Then smile really big like you know something they don't. Then refuse any further eye contact. They will be wondering (perhaps even scared to death) what your capable of doing with that photo. For all they know your spouse could be a Highway Patrolman or DMV officer. It will certainly make them think.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Do I recommend this? No, but it does sound like a good idea. Everyone is scared of being caught on tape these days.:happytv:

I had a funny thought about what it would be like if, while walking down the mall, we all acted the way we do on the road. Picture it....

I come up behind a slow, elderly woman with a walker. I yell "come on grandma" and run around her and cut her off.

Someone walks out of a store and steps in front of me, so I have to slow down. I walk 2 inches behind them for the rest of the way down the mall just to make them mad.

A group of people are walking toward the escalator. I run around everyone to get on first. They scream at me and I give them the finger.

:rotfl: Just some silly thoughts - we do all act crazy out there sometimes don't we?

That is very true. And I've done it myself....and not proud of it!

In some states giving the finger is considered road rage, and you can go directly to jail if a cop witnesses it, and be charged with a felony (that alone is enough reason not to do it....and you are right, it sure doesn't set a good example for young people just learning to drive.

LOL!! So true! If you walk two inches behind someone, that would definately be considered threatening behavior, so why is it any different when driving?

Yikes! That would stop me from doing it for sure!:scared1:

I like this idea! :thumbsup2

I work on a main street in the state's capitol, right near not one, but TWO rotaries/roundabouts/circles/he!! on Earth. Everyone seems to have their own preconceived notion as to how to negotiate a rotary, and they're all DIFFERENT. So yeah, morning and evening drives for me are definitely bad for my blood pressure. And the middle fingers, wow; it's like it's an unusual day when I only see a couple of 'em.

If someone cuts me off, you bet yer BOOTIE I will lay on my horn; more than anything to draw attention to the moron who needs to go back to driver's ed... elementary edition.

And this, I feel, doesn't happen because people feel like they're more safe and secure in their own car than in a face-to-face situation. Sorta like replying to message board threads ;)

Maybe the other driver didn't see the OP and it was an innocent mistake? Beeping the horn was probably OK, if the driver didn't see the OP originally he now knows to be more careful. Giving the finger was just not necessary.

Thanks!:thumbsup2

In Michigan it is road rage and a felony. Like I said, I've done it a couple of times myself, and I'm always embarrassed and ashamed after I do it. The other thing is, ya have to be careful doing that....because there are some drivers who carry guns, and they might just decide to pull the gun out, and blow your head off (sorry to sound so graphic), but it really can be dangerous, in more ways that one.

Best of luck to you in your future driving endeavors.
