Winter Olympics No Video Thread

If someone qualifies for the half-pipe then takes a second run and crashes and is unconscious and has to be hauled off on a stretcher but regains consciousness can she still compete?

They've improved and matured over the years. When they first started, yeah, they could be catty. I remember Terry Gannon getting sort of exasperated and trying to rein them in a bit. And they talked all the way through the programs so you couldn't hear the music or just enjoy it. But they've gotten better at shutting up and only talking about important points.

That said, I have Peacock and I have infinitely preferred their venue/world feed which has either no commentary or very limited from some British woman that I don't know. But she's generally very quiet.
I am the opposite, I turned off Peacock and switched to NBC, because there was no Johnny and Tara
:-)

I think it's just the opposite: many people who don't normally watch certain sports will watch them just because they're part of the Olympics.
This made me laugh because I was watching curling and had no idea what was going on. Also I loved the biathlon. Had no idea there was a sport with skiing and shooting but I loved it!

Speaking of ice skating, what do we think of Johnny and Tara commentating? I had heard they could be annoying and talkative/catty towards the skaters. I have found them to be very professional and respectful. Admittedly, I have not heard them commentating before so this is my first impression of them.
Love them. Icons. Love their friendship. I look forward to them participating and commenting in the Olympics. Love seeing what Johnny is going to wear next.

So....is the beginning of the end of their constant chatter... because I found their restraint very refreshing

It'll be Canada vs USA battling for the bronze in women's curling tomorrow. I don't know why I'm fascinated by that sport but I am.

I think it's because it SEEMS like a sport any of us can do without a lot of training.

I won't post the videos, but Mike Rowe did a segment about learning how to Curl. He showed it's not as easy as it looks.

The other videos I would post is the "Out of Shape Olympics". A "normal" person trying out the events (or shortened versions of them) with basically no training. I watched some of her winter olympic events, but it looks like she has some for summer too.

I tried curling at our local ice rink. They have leagues, but when they first started they had some free intro nights where you could just go try it. It definitely takes skill, like bowling. Also, like bowling, it's a real "beer drinker's sport." I like how they would just bring a six pack and set it on the ice - nice and cold! 🤣 Curling stones are heavy, and sometimes you have to sweep really hard, so it does take some physical power. Honestly, it seemed like a lot of fun, though I just didn't know enough interested people to get a team together.

One thing I did notice is that when you just wear your shoes on the ice, your feet get really cold! I am used to skates where you are an inch or two above the ice. Curling does require special shoes, but for intro night they just had us wear our normal shoes with some slip-on covers. They do it on the skating rink, which is a little different than dedicated curling sheets (though they do texture the ice for it). I doubt there is enough demand around here for a dedicated curling center, but it's nice that we have an option.
