Ugh I left my homemade pea soup on the counter all night

While visiting my now DH *then fiance* his brother made a beautiful chicken pot pie for dinner the next day ~ it sat out on the counter the entire time *24 hours*, I could not eat it, we went and got fish 'n' chips instead *he's from England :thumbsup2

frankly, imo, we are far too food poisoning paranoid. Food really does last a lot longer than we are taught. I wouldn't think twice about reheating it (assuming it DID go in the fridge this morning) and eating it. I accidentally left the milk out a couple nights ago and it is still perfectly fine. (I let DH test it first tho... :rotfl:).

Ditto!

I actually left a whole crockpot of pea soup out all day....forgot to turn the stupid thing on before work. It sat out at least 10 hours...probably closer to 12. We ate it...nobody got sick.

I figure that chances are one won't get sick. It is like any other risk ratio.

Op, did you trash it or save it:confused3. I'm one to say it depends on what's in it or not in it;)

I would never eat that. I have been too well taught the dangers and rewards of food safety. There are many reasons you might be able to do those things in other countries but not here - however, I am NOT taking a silly chance. Sure you can walk across the road without looking - and most likely you won't get hit - but it's the one time you're smashed by a bus that matters. It's far more expensive to be overnight in the hospital on IV fluids from bad food than to throw that food out and get more.

So obviously, I vote DON'T DO IT!!!:rotfl:

HUM interesting budget related question.

I'm not sure what this post is for...of course this is budget related, the OP needs to know whether or not to toss a whole pot of soup.....that's tossing money out, that's budget related....

Ewwww yuck, but yes it goes along the same lines as my family. We travelled outside of the US once & everyone recommended we get food from this "food van" on the side of the road. Well when we got there, the van had been out for hours, in the blazing hot sun, with no refridgeration or AC or ice. The food was stored in these big metal pans covered with foil. I was NOT getting the pork or potato salad, I was NOT gonna do it. After watching about 20 other locals order & eat the same thing, I figured "when in Rome...." It was the best darn pork & potato salad I ever ate, and no one got sick!

Even though I grew up where we didn't refridgerate much meat or dairy (milk came straight from the cow to the table - and sat out all day) - I am very picky about my meat & dairy as an adult. I barely eat at buffets or picnics when I don't know how long something's been sitting out!

I was always told that if your milk has not been pastuerized it does not need to be kept cold.

OP I probably would have tossed it...but then I don't like or eat pea soup so I wouldn't have made it. :) I hope you made the right decision!

Me, no. But, my husband woud say yes. We have left food out a number of times over the years. I have always thrown it out. But recently, we left some chili out over night. My husband found it and stuck it in the fridge. We ate it that night. Then, he told me. No one got sick, but I wouldn't want to make a habit of it.
