Ok, I have kind of been looking for a new job. I took the test for a state job and did well. I have received several letters for jobs that I qualify for.

Today I went on an interview for one of them. I hate interviews :( I just don't do well at them. I know I don't present myself in the best way. But the thing is, I am a really good, dedicated, hard worker. I know that if they would give me a chance, they would not be disappointed in my work.

Does anyone else hate going on job interviews? Can anyone offer any tips?

where something nice obviously, but that is also comfortable for you to wear. You're uncomfortable enough doing the interview so you don't want to appear uncomfortable in what you are wearing.

look up typical interview questions - use the internet - and decide on answers to them to prepare yourself for the interview - questions like "where do you see yourself in (5, 10) years", "what is the quality you like best about yourself", "worse about yourself", "why do you think you would be an asset here" - and then practice them on a friend

think of questions you have for the work and write them on a list - don't bring the list in with you, but look over it before going into the interview - it always looks better if you have questions b/c it looks like you are thinking about the job.

have references available and an example of what you can do, such as a writing sample, spreadsheet, a project you worked on - just make sure the personal info is whited out.

good luck!

I interview *very* well. I think I interview better than I work... (I'm on DIS all day - need I say more?) :teeth:

This being said - I am beyond confident, during an interview. I exude a personality - that is mine - but is the very tippy top of my many, many moods. :teeth: I read you can train anyone for (insert job title here) but you cant train a personality. I try and always remember that.

Ive had bad ones - and you can tell right away how it's going to be. Just go with how they are. I KNEW I wasnt going to get the one whom asked me "Why I dont just go back and do hair instead?" (when applying for a tech-support position)

I never talk bad about other employers - any which I know I couldnt restrain myself about - I dont mention at all.

And I always use any job or experience Ive had as a PLUS for the job I am interviewing for. (i.e. I bartened for years - how can my bartending experience help in a technical support position? I had to deal with irate DRUNK customer - I can handle just an irate customer!!! :lmao:
