It wouldn't be so bad if I knew when I would get to visit again. I was excited about my recent trip for so long. Now that it is over, I feel this big void. Pathetic huh? BTW, our trip was just wonderful ( I am working on a trip report). What do I do to get past these post trip blues?

Ok, here are some ideas...
Organize your pictures and souvenirs. Put them in albums, scrapbooks, etc.
Get to work on that trip report
Plan your next trip!

Kaabost, boy can I sympathize with you. When we come back, I feel so down and depressed for quite some time. To be honest, looking at pictures and listening to WDW music, makes me feel worse. I don't feel better til I am planning the next trip. We thought after our first trip, that it was going to be a while before going again, but somehow we did it. Ya have to, just to keep your sanity.;)

I feel like we took our "Vacation of a Lifetime" last May. We did a 7 night stay at WDW Dolphin and then a 7 night Disney Cruise. When we came back, it took months to feel right again.

I put soooo much work into that trip - I even had dreams at night about it!! Finally, about a month before the trip, my DH sent flowers to my office with a card stating: "Don't worry! Your vacation will be great!! Love, Mickey and Minnie" He knew I had become obsessed!!

Now....when we started planning our "cheap" summer vacation for this year, somehow we worked it so we are going back again. We are camping this year (BIG CHANGE from last year!), but we are still going!! And, I think that I'm much calmer this time around...I don't think I'll be as depressed!!

But, if I am depressed....do they make a WDW anti-depressant? We need to look into that!!

Hang in there fellow depressed person....I'm sending Pixie Dust your way!!

Those "Disney Withdrawls" are truely as extreme as the positive magic at disney (but on the wrong end of the spectrum:(, that's why you have to plan your next trip, even if it's not for another year. It will really help!!

They really have us hooked!!

I always feel that way..........Then I start planning our next vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are so great! Despite the fact that I keep lurking around here, I feel like DawnF316 in that going over photos, listening to Disney music seems to make it worse. I think I had better wait a while. I do like your advice about planning the next trip, I just wish that I had a date secured.....even if it is a year away. Well, I suppose that I can start looking for discount rates to try to tempt my buddies with. Any more ideas? Thanks! Karen

I call it PDD - post Disney Depression. Next trip will be August, but instead of thinking it will be 2 or 3 years until I get back, DH has a conference in October and I'll be coming w/o kids since they don't want to miss school. After that I'll have PDD!

I totally agree with everything that's already been posted!!

The first thing I do is start planning the next trip -- even if it's going to be a while... I pick a date and research everything on these boards about that time of year.... I read the boards daily -- it REALLY helps to feel surrounded by fellow fanatics. I also try to find something new to do that I've never tried before and make plans to do that on the next trip.

We leave in 6 days!!!!! :D

In 16 days, we'll be back home (amid the cold and snow) and I'll definitely have a case of PDD :(

Hang in there.... you're NOT alone!

:earsboy:

I always HATE having to come back home. But, can't afford to stay there forever.

Sometimes, listening to music helps...sometimes not.

Planning another trip...ALWAYS HELPS!!

If you aren't sure when you can go, just pick a time of year you KNOW you can go and make reservations through DU.

Welcome back. Glad you had a wonderful time. Why don't you just start planning another trip? Even if you don't get to go for 10 more years you can still plan.

Visit the DIS and help answer questions for others planning trips, visit the community board and visit with all of the friendly people there, write a trip report. Read other trip reports. Go to DIS chat. Gosh, there's lots of fun stuff to do. Hope you get over your post trip blues soon.

I know what you mean.
Our first trip was so hectic and spur of the moment (and the parks so busy!!) that really I just felt like I'd been jipped. My first trip to WDW and it wasn't enough time for me!
So I went again. That time was solo (recently and just a few short weeks after the first trip) and it was wonderful.
Then I came home with a definite "feeling" about me. It started as soon as I got on the mears shuttle to leave....

So I started planning our next trip. But even if it wasn't later this year (even if 1yr, 2yrs or 10yrs!) you can still be in the planning stages, saving, etc.

Right now I'm in "buy the kids Disney clothes and stuff" mode. Because I can get it cheaper on sale at The Disney Store or on ebay than I can at Walt Disney World! I love saving money! And this way there will be no "It's way too expensive!!!" when they ask for souvenirs (because even if I can afford it, I don't like paying enormous prices for things if I can get away from it LOL) Now I'll have lots of Disney stuff to take with us and give to the kids. They are young enough that they'll never know we brought it with us!
(trust me... Santa visited us on our last trip- they never knew we brought all that stuff in the van. LOL)

Organize your pictures and souvenirs. Put them in albums, scrapbooks, etc.
Get to work on that trip report
Plan your next trip!

Sounds like great ideas to me- as long as the organizing albums/etc doesn't depress you more. You might not be ready for that just yet. I have done that also... already... for both trips... and that is really saying something considering ALL our other pictures, pictures from vacations, etc are NOT in albums yet. LOL
But my Disney trips are.

Oh and yes, must hear your trip report. :)

I know exactly how you feel. We just got back from our wedding and honeymoon to good old PA with all this snow:-( We had such a magical time and are planning our next trip but that's a year from now!!! The night before we left I cried like a baby, I didn't feel so bad because DH cried a bit on the plane. Very bad for him because it was his first plane ride, first palm tree, first real vacation, first wedding... Not that married life isn't exciting and wonderful, but it's not the same as when you're in Disney:-)

I always feel the same way. Its not just the "vacation" itself but the void of all the planning that you do! There are 2 things that I did that always keep you in the "vacation" mode. The first is to always have a vacation planned (or thinking of one), even if its a weekend away somewhere. Log onto some vacation websites and read all you can about places you would someday like to visit and price them out! Even if you cannot go, you learn so much about "someplace else". The other is to become a TA, which I have done. I work as an independant, go to the office once a week, pass out my business cards, and do most of my work at home. You don't make lots of money (since you work on commission and half of that commission goes to the "house"), but if you like to research and plan, it may interest you. Although you do not make a lot of money, you SAVE tons of $ on your own vacations by being a TA, which is like money in the bank. The money I make goes into the "vacation fund" for our next trip. Between the TA discounts and my commissions our vcations are always paid for in advance!

I know the feeling-the only thing that ever helps me is planning another trip :D It may be sad but its true. I'm so gland everyone on the boards has an idea about the sickness because my family just thinks I'm crazy. I'm glad you had a great trip!

OK, I took you guys advice and wrote a trip report. Check the trip reports board and look for entries by "kaabost" if you get a chance (Pretrip-Day 5).

It's been a little less than a month since I returned from WDW and I am happy to report that my post trip blues have subsided a little. I still wish that I were there though. I figure, I'm almost a month closer to my trip in January (which will HOPEFULLY work out). About to hit the 300 day mark on my countdown timer!

I feel your pain. I just made the mistake of looking at the video clips we took last week. UGH!!! It is so sad! We had such a nice week together. It was the first real chance Ted and I had to celebrate our engagement and enjoy uninturrupted time just being together!

Now we're home!

We always suffer from post-trip depression. The last four trips have been after our "last trip for a while." Many of the suggestions here, like looking at photos, playing videos, writing trips reports; these thing don't help us get over this depression. Instead, they are dangerous things to do that have time and time again resulted in the loss of another couple grand! Our family now laughs out loud when we say "this will be our last trip for a while." We believe our June trip will be, as we're starting a family and can't imagine fitting it in, nor bearing the expense upon temporarily dropping a salary and picking up two or three liabilities.

Then again, it just may be the start of a new generation.

I have to side with eclipseSD. I think it's time to get some Orlando real estate....
