Ugh, have to take an item back because they didn't remove the security tag!

My husband tried the pliers, and they worked! He pried open the big piece of it and figured out what held the pin in place...took that off, and woohoo! No fighting to get into the mall this week.

Sigh....one more thing I do NOT need to do this week...but I bought a bra from Victoria's Secret for my dress at Palo this week...and the sales associate didn't take the security tag off. GRRR! It's just a hassle to have to work my way back into the mall to get it taken off...anyone else ever have this happen?

That is almost as aggravating as the person doing 45 mph in the left lane....

I've got a weirder situation--I bought a Columbia jacket at Kohl's last winter and had the security tag removed, but the thing still sets off detectors (oddly enough, not at Kohl's, but it does at Walgreens every time). I've emptied the pockets completely and walked through the detectors without my purse, and it still goes off. I finally went back to Kohl's and had them slide the jacket all over the deactivator thingie that's by the registers several times, but it didn't do any good. It finally got to the point that at my local Walgreens, they don't even bother saying anything to me about the alarms because they know it's just me and my stupid coat.

i have had it happen twice and I just go to the nearest store by my home. They will remove it. Many stores have the same device...

Those stupid things!! I bought a jacket at Macy's last week; got home and I'm showing it to DH, and now not feeling guilty for what I spent I since he's
telling me, "oh, it really looks nice on you and you deserve it." Then I see the stupid security tag still stuck on the side.
Sigh. He offered to stop by Macy's the next and have them take it off;
but I said.."oh, gee, it's on my Macy's card and you're not on that account;
what if they think you picked the bag up somewhere," (duh,,I'm thinking they
must REALLY check, right?)
So... two days later I trek back up to Macy's to customer service... start
to explain that I bought this jacket, (haven't even taken out a receipt) and
and the woman says, "oh, the security tag is still on it,,is that it? I'll take it off." Never asks for a receipt, or when I bought it or even if it was that particular store.

i have a robe hanging in my closet with the tag on since last christmas. It was a gift and i have no receipt. I don't know when i'll deal with it or how. I was afraid to let dh pry it apart as I'd heard they had ink in them. Now that it's been a year i really don't know what to do. I sometimes wear the robe with this thing on it, but it's heavy and clunky.

This summer we bought my son one of the sweaters from the Mexico pavillion at Epcot. We didn't pay any attention to whether or not the security tag was removed. When we gave James his sweater, he noticed the security tag. Drat. I went online to see how to remove it. My wife called around to see if any local stores used that particular brand of ink tag. No luck. We contacted Disney merchandising and they told us to box up the sweater with the receipt and that they would send UPS by to pickup the package. The next day the UPS person showed up at our door and took the package. Within a couple of weeks we had the sweater back sans security tag.

A similar thing happened to DW Sue when she purchased a pair of jeans from Old Navy. Even though we immediately called the store and returned with pants and receipt in hand, they treated my wife as though she had stolen the pants. Needless to say we don't shop much at Old Navy anymore.

Now, my question is: How come the alarm doesn't go off when we walk out of the stores with the tag on the garment, BUT it goes off when we walk back in to the store to have it removed?

Sometimes if it's folded into the article of clothing really well, the sensors won't pick it up. Chances are, if you're bringing it back, you've put the ink tag near the outside to make it easier to find. Then the sensor goes off

I worked retail this summer, and in the last few weeks the store was really trying to crack down on the ink tag issues we'd been having. When I left there was a binder at every register that was near an exit and ANY time that the sensor went off one of the employees had to record it, including who's ID number was on the receipt. Managers would supposedly be speaking with individuals who were in the habit of not removing tags. So some stores are trying to crack down on this

And as for removing those tags at home, be careful. It's true that some don't have ink in them, but many do. One of my co-workers had one explode all over her when the remover malfunctioned. Her fingers were flourescent yellow for a week

Ann Taylor uses those, too. I always thought that their tags (on the side) were scratchy. So, I decided to cut one off and that's when I realized what the scratchy "label" was. It had a sensor inside the label.

A few years ago, I bought a new outfit for a Christmas Party and didn't realize the security tag was still on it until I was getting ready for the party. Well, I had bought it at Penney's and the mall was on the way to the party, so I put on the outfit and stopped at the store to have them remove it while I was wearing it!

Dh flew to Minn recently with a beautiful new bomber jacket I purchased from a Wilson Leather outlet in Indiana. On the plane he said his associate pointed to something coneshaped and asked what it was. He realized they had not removed the security tag. He as to make a decision whether to freeze or wear the jacket. He wore the jacket and when he returned to Atlanta went to Wilson to have it removed.

I was at Epcot in Sept and bought a Coca-cola baseball hat as an early Christmas gift. I didn't notice, until I got back home to Pennsylvania, that the security tag is still on it. I can't wait to see the clerks face after Thanksgiving when I go back to WDW and go back with the hat (and receipt) and ask her to remove it.

Of course, if I wasn't going back, we would have tried to find a local store that uses the same kind and have it removed, or tried ourselves, but since the timing works, I'm taking it back!

Happened to my sister this August at Mouse Gears. Luckily, I was going to WDW in Sept.. & I took it back for her.

Check the pockets. The security thing may look like a tag. Happened to me with a jacket I bought online from Kohl's. It wasn't until the security guy at Modell's showed me what it would like like that I found it!

It's happened to me 3 times twice in the last 3 months! The first time was several years ago I had bought my son a jersey for Christmas he really wanted to wear it and there was the security tag. Then a couple of months ago I ordered some stuff for DD from Buckle and one of the shirts still had the tag on it so I had to drive an hour to the mall and the reason I ordered these things was to keep from going to the mall. Then last week my DS had some jeans for Pac Sun that they left the security tag on.

You might not even find the tag. I know some higher end pocketbooks have the tag sewn inbetween the outer leather and the liner. So you will never find them.

Old Navy should not have been rude to your wife. But I can understand where they are coming from. When I used to work retail we had a huge profit loss from theft. One way they would do it is by purchasing an expensive item from the store (usually perfume). Then maybe a day or two later go into the same store with the receipt of the expensive item they bought. Then they would pick up the same item off the shelf and stand on line as if to do a return. They would get their money back on an item they just took off the shelf. And if the employee doesn't mark the receipt as "returned" the thief would do this a couple of times before they could no longer make a return.
I am NOT saying your wife did that. I'm just showing you an example as to why Old Navy questioned her. Yes she had a receipt, but I'm betting Old Navy has had similar thefts to the one I just described. Trust me, I hated having to be skeptical of every return I received.

I've only had the security tag left on once. It was on a pair of jeans and this was before they used ink in the tags. So I got out the pliers and wire cutters. In about 10 minutes I got the tag off with no damage to the jeans...can't say the same for the tag.

Try this one on! I bought a nice black Disney back pack from "Everything Pop" in July and realized last month the ink tag was on it. After many emails with Disney Merchandising, I got the tag removed. They are supposed to reimburse me the postage. But, what a hassle!
