Bravo to Shoebuy.com for calling us.

No.............we did not just purchase 250 bucks worth of shoes this morning!

They suspected fraudulent activity because the bad guy had used multiple cards in a short period of time.

I suspect someone stole our data during a recent trip to WDW but that it was our off site activities that gave the bad guy the opportunity. We stayed off site and used the CC for food off site. We used gift cards for meals inside WDW.

The activity started about 30 days after we left and they listed a bogus FL (Kissimmee) area code and were going to have the goods delivered to a Kissimmee address.

The card has been shut down and we are not liable, but it is just a complete waste of out time!

Even if they had not called us, we would have noticed the activity as my DH check the CC website just about every day.

So..............Please be alert and check your own card activity from time to time.

I got a call just like that yesterday morning, but from USAA. Someone tried to make a $602 purchase at a grocery store in Portugal. I suspect my info got lifted either in Cozumel or Orlando while we were there over the holidays.

AmEx called my brother while we were in Disney....$13K in fraudulent charges on his business card! Two days after I got back, we got a call that someone had spent $6K on my husband's AmEx in a Best Buy in New Jersey. Neither my brother's card nor my husband's had been used in Orlando. Credit card frauds find all kinds of ways to steal them. In our case, the card was stolen from the mail before it was even delivered to our house.

Had a similar experience with charges to the itunes store. There were multiple charges each day for two days. All charges were removed, the card canceled, and a new one issued. If it is a card you use frequently and would miss, like mine was, mention it to them, as they agreed to overnight the replacement to me instead of making me wait a week or more for the replacement. I now try and view my card transactions every day if possible. No idea how the number was obtained by the bad guys.

Happened to me twice in the last year. :headache:

One was an Amazon credit card that has never left my house and I only use it to make purchases on Amazon. That card is the one I least expected this to happen to.

I now check all my credit card accounts on line 3-4 days a week.

Happened to me a few weeks ago with my Paypal business debit card. They were really good about it, though, and had the money replaced within a day
or two.

This is too funny- Just got a call from capital one, asking if I had made a purchase at a University that I DO NOT attend. (it's in the same town though) Uh... no. They bought $500 worth of things, effectively maxing out the card. It's tied up while Capital One "investigates". Hopefully I'll get it back soon. I do need to pay for MY books...

No clue where they could have gotten my CC info. But it's part of the University... Everyone generally has the same numbers except the last four... so really, you could play around and get valid cards :confused3

Thieves use iTunes to make small test transactions to see if the card is good. If you ever notice small authorizations from iTunes that you didn't make, you should call your bank or credit card company immediately.

I set up an alert on my Disney Visa so that any time an online/phone transaction (essentially any transaction where they don't actually swipe the card) is processed, I get a text message with the amount/vendor. Great service!

Glad your CC company called you, but stinks that you have to deal with it!

Add me to the list....a few times. The last time was someone took my visa check cashing number/info off of amazon and used it to DO ONLINE GAMBLING!!! :crazy2: THEY TOOK that card off of there and my Discover card number too.. that was also kept on there. I don't keep any cc info on any websites in my accounts after that. It also happened to a cc we never use, paid off, was in a locked box. Someone bought clothes from GAP and one night we got a late night phone call from that cc company. They suspected it was an inside the cc company employee that did that. The other time was DRUM ROLL PLEASE....YEP..after a stay at Disney. So......apparently it is quite common down there.

After the problems I had with credit card fraud I took all my credit card numbers off my on line accounts like the PP said. I do buy books for my Kindle from Amazon and to make these small purchases more convenienet I buy a $25 Amazon gift card and apply it to my account. :)

That's great advice! I didn't know there was such a thing. Thanks!

We do the same for iTunes and Amazon, buying the cards at the supermarket when they have fuel point deals.

You are by far the exception. There is very little chance of your card being stolen from online sources. It is many thousands of times more likely that your restaurant server is writing down your number or even duplicating your card when he/she disappears from your table with your card in tow.

Just plain sucks... my friend has her debit card compromised. One small tester purchase made locally and then within minutes there 3 large purchases/withdrawals made in Pakistan. Caused a nightmare because it is the account they use to pay mortgage etc. Checks were bouncing, bills were late. Absolute mess.

On the flipside my card was turned off twice while on vacation in Florida (outside the world) even though I alerted my bank we were traveling- very frustrating when standing in line forever with three cranky kids. I think they must have a lot of problems in the businesses surrounding DW for them to do that.

I didn't know that was an option, definitely signing up. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm in the middle of a fraud investigation with DV right now and it's been a real pain in the patootie! Maybe things would have gone more smoothly if I had caught it sooner. Although honestly, I've never, ever had a purchase on that card shipped anywhere but my billing address, so you'd think a $2,000+ purchase being shipped to some random address I've never used might raise a red flag with them.
