Last night I was all excited to finally have the chance to eat the much talked about monte cristo. My wife also had the three cheese cristo. It was an okay sandwich, not really superb, but it was cool that I had finally had one. And we got to watch a commercial being filmed for the new Dream Suite commercial.

About an hour later, I felt SO ill. Quesy, nauseated, etc. At first I thought it must have been something I ate earlier in the day at work. But nope- then my wife threw up!

Maybe it was a bad batch of something?

The revenge of the Monte Cristo...the same thing happened to me. The first few bites were delicious! Then I felt sick. Just too much for me (rich, heavy). For me this is something to share with many, many people.

I think it is the revenge of eating deep fried fat. As a nutrition guru....a Monte Cristo will never pass these lips !

Yeah, I can't handle many fatty foods these days. And fatty, rich foods? Forget it! (Man, it sucks to get old! :lmao: )

Yeah after hearing about how greasy and fatty it was I decided to not have one! LOL I have stomach problems anyway, so don't need that!

Did you guys only get sick the one time? There are some stomach bugs going around too. Hope you both feel better!

I hated it when I got one last December, as did my mom. My boyfriend was smart enough to order something else. I doubt I'll order one again.

Can't deal with the grease running down the back of my throat and with something that rich, my body would probably do the same. No one in my family cares for that sandwich, even my DGF.

Yeah, they are VERY rich and fried.. My DBF, who is a big eater, cannot even eat all 4 pieces without eating anything else before that.. They're just way to rich and fried..

So many people love the Monte that I was determined to try it on our last trip. DH slapped me back to reality and pointed out that I'd be sick after taking just a few bites, it's just way too rich for us. I think he was more concerned about possibly having to return to the room and wasting half the day than anything else  .

Sorry you and your wife got sick, but at least you can say you've had one.

I split the Monte Cristo with my aunt at the BB and it was delicious but too much. I only managed about one and a half sections before giving up. Luckily we never felt rushed and lingered for a while just chatting which gave our stomachs a chance to digest before going back out into the park. I would have it again if I could just get one section with the coulis a la carte.

yea, wow. I ate one piece of it, and after that I couldn't even swallow anymore. the thought of the fried heart clogging-ness made me feel nauseated.

Yep will agree with the op on this one. We couldn't wait to try one on our visit in 2005 and it will be the last Monte we have. :scared1:
It was BAD !!!!

The MC is so yummy but oh so rich as its totally deep fried. I felt the same way after I ate mine.

They are a love/hate food you love it or the sheer thought is enough to make your arteries harden and stomach clench. I have zero interest in trying one since my sister gets the meat one and I am veggy let alone the idea of fried sandwhich is just wrong to me. But some love them. I will save my DL calories for a carmel apple thank you!

I love these at home with powdered sugar & jam! However, we do not deep fry ours! That's like a heart attack on a plate!

I would never try the Monte Cristo--it just doesn't look good to me. Sugar and Jam \and meat on the same sandwich? Puh-leez.

Howver, every time I travel I am dumb enough to fall right into the fettucine Alfredo trap--usually due to missing lunch because my schedule is upside down and thusly being starved at dinner--and thereafter suffering the hugest case of Montezuma's (or insert favorite local historical figure) Revenge you ever did see.

Turkey sandwich on dry bread, anyone?
