Hello all,

My D is only a freshman in HS, but she has said for years that she wants to work at WDW as a performer.

She plans on majoring in theatre or musical theatre (MT) and hopes to do the CP at WDW.

We are currently checking out colleges with MT and read about UCF in Orlando. Do any of you attend UCF or know of any kids who do? Do they have more Disney connections because they are based there?

My D has the academic qualifications to be admitted, but they only accept a very small number of MT students every year and it is by audition. And she would definitely have to get a major scholarship to go....but then we would have a built in excuse to get an AP and go visit her often!

Thanks for any info you can share!

The University of Central Florida Conservatory Theatre does indeed maintain an Artistic Partnership with Walt Disney World Resort Entertainment Operations.

Students are offered the opportunity to do some work that can be credited towards membership in the Actor's Equity Association, the Labor Union which represents theatrical performers nationwide, and which supplies performers for many Walt Disney World Resort productions.

And of course, with 58,000 Cast Members at the Walt Disney World Resort alone, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is the largest employer in Central Florida, so it stands to bear that many students and faculty do have some sort of connection with the company.

The flipside of that is, for a non-Florida Resident, a full four years of tuition can be very expensive. In addition, the University of Central Florida is the third largest University by enrollment in the nation, so it can be a little inpersonal at times.

It is much more recommended to start at one of the local Community Colleges, such as Valencia Community College. Costs are much more reasonable, and class sizes more personal. With the Direct Connect to UCF program, students graduating from a Central Florida Community College are guranteed admission to UCF.

My daughter is a UCF student (out of state). She also works at Disney. She is not in Theatre but she has friends from UCF in theatre that work at Disney. My daughter is in Hospitality Management and she has had several teachers who are (or were) employed by Disney (or Universal).

Thanks to both of you for the info!

Size and cost do concern me...she would definitely have to get close to a full scholarship to go. She does well on standardized tests and has a 4.0 GPA. I have a niece who's graduating from UCF this May in marketing, but I was wondering about the theatre connections.

We'll probably have her apply and audition and see what happens as far as being accepted and the scholarships/financial aid. In the meantime, we will also make sure she has several "fall back" schools as well!

Thanks!
