U-scan or regular cashier?

U-scan or cashier?

  • U-scan - I'm in a hurry!

  • Cashier - I'll wait, thank you

I'd wait in line to U-scan before dealing with the surly help around here. No wonder their lines are always empty.

Wow! I find it hard to believe that we're "cutting edge" here in North Huntingdon! My local Giant Eagle (popular chain in Western PA) is the only place around that has these and I love 'em.
If you've ever done a gift registry at Target they're like the price scanning guns they give you to do those. I hope they catch on elsewhere.
It sounds pretty neat. So far I havent seen any around here.
Thanks for the tip :teeth:

I love using self scan. Unfortunately, rarely do I have few enough items to use it. But if I have fewer than 20, I'm there baby.

The poll is kinda skewed. I want a cashier AND no wait. :)

We still have one family-owned chain around here that has enough cashiers around so that you don't have to wait, bag boys for bagging, and they load everything into the car for you. :)

I loathe the "We can't be bothered, do it yourself" mentality of the Giant Eagle.

Personally, I like to have a cashier. Then again, we don't have U-scan up here!

Really depends - if I've got a few items only I'll scan. If it's a huge order I'll let them.

We have some U scans with full conveyer belts just like a serviced station. Big orders are no problem with those. :thumbsup2

I disagree - our store has several express lines for those with a few items, and 5 self-scan lines. My DD and I can get through the self scan very rapidly, even with a cartload.

I do it so often that I know the produce codes for most of the fruits and vegetables I buy.

I love the U-scan lines, but it seems every time I get in them either the person in front of me cannot figure out how to use them, (you have no idea how many people I have scanned groceries for!) or they are trying to buy 6 or 7 of the specials that are limited to 1 or 2 items and have to pay six or seven different times. That burns me up!!!! :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:

I prefer uscan, but if I have a million things, I"ll let the cashiers earn their paychecks and scan all my items while I bag! :rotfl:

I use both, but much perfer U-Scan. I can scan and PROPERLY bag my items twice as fast as the cashiers and baggers can. If we have to go with a cashier, we bag our own items. DH was a bagger in high school and showed me how to do it. HATE the way they bag today.

Self check out and I just can’t seem to get along...
I don’t know what it is but even if i have two items i get an error code....
After a year of trying to figure the dumb thing out i avoid them at all cost...

Ours do too, but even then, the bagging area tends to get filled up quickly, so you end up having to run down, bag up some stuff, then run back and scan some more (and so on). Thus, if I have a lot of items, I'll go through the regular check-out line.
