I ONLY use the u-scan if I have just a few items. If I have a whole cartful of food at the grocery store, I use the cashier. . . it is too much work to scan all that myself. Plus, those darn weight sensors are so touchy- I can't take it!!

I love the U-scan. I almost always use it. I've learned to try to get the spot close to the employee overseeing the area. That way if there is a problem, they help you quicker. Our Walmart even has U-scan. I like theirs. It doesnt care if you bag your items or not. It makes it quicker when you have large/ heavy items. The grocery stores system makes you bag everything. Sometimes the big things arent easy to bag or get on the scale.

If they gave me a discount for scanning it myself I might be more motivated.

I have had nothing but bad luck the few times I tried self scan. Always had to have the assistant come over, trust me to pick the two items in the store that aren't in the computer correctly...

I am fortunate to be able to go to the store during slower times of the week, and there isn't much of a wait at the cashier lines. I absolutely refuse to do their work for them when there are cashiers available.

Now a discount might work...I'm motivated by money like everyone else. Let's say 5% for scanning and bagging your own - heck yeah, I'll do it. But then there will be such a line at the self scanners, and inept people slowing things down, that I'll gladly pay the extra 5% to be waited on.

When the store starts sending me a paycheck, I'll start acting like their cashier.

I would use U scan more if the stupid thing would work right. Alll of a sudden everything backs up,if I set my ourse down it says unexpected item in bagging are and sales and markdowns require an employee w/a key code.
It is a pain.

Anymore, I use the price scanning guns and bag as I go along - no bagging at the checkout and I keep a running total right there in front of me. There are never any lines at the checkout stations for those and it's quick & easy to checkout.

I've noticed that if you have something really light, like a stick of gum or a magazine, the U-scans usually don't recognize it and then you have to wait forever for "assistance."

And produce-- forget it! I can never find what I"m looking for in the menu so I have to wait for assistance again.

As long as my 4 year old is not with my and wants to "help" I do the U-Scan, if he is there, I wait for a cashier! :thumbsup2

Never seen those.Where do you shop?

I love the U-Scan stations and use them every chance I get. I normally don't have a huge cartload of items, so it works best in my situation. They're much quicker, and because not alot of people in my area seem to use them, I'm out of the store quicker.

I HATE Uscan!!! Hate them! Absolutely HATE them!!! I have NEVER been able to complete a transaction without having to have some human come and bail me out of a bad scan or error. Have to have a human get your signature too! The whole thing is a fraud and while I'm trying to do it, I feel like if I make a wrong move, the thing will want ME on the scale to price me.
Oh, HOW I hate USCAN!!!!

I was really happy to read that grocery stores are rethinking them because they are losing millions of $$$ in last minute purchases at the regular lines.

Plus-they put very nice people out of a job. That, on top of the insult of some computer asking me to put a non-existant item back on the belt or rescan something I didn't scan in the first place is just too much. Hate them!

I'll scan if I'm in a hurry and have a few items. If I have many heavy items (buying in bulk) I wait in the line.

The only store around us that had one was a SuperWalmart. When we did our shopping there, it would be a big shopping trip with a loaded cart, so we didn't bother with it. We've probably only ever used the self-scans maybe 3-4 times over the years.

For whatever reason, though, Walmart got rid of the self-scans. :confused3 So now, there aren't any stores with them.

It's fine by me. I agree with what Pigeon says. :teeth:

I have used the self-scans a few times, each time with problems. I prefer to use a cashier.

Wow! I find it hard to believe that we're "cutting edge" here in North Huntingdon! My local Giant Eagle (popular chain in Western PA) is the only place around that has these and I love 'em.
If you've ever done a gift registry at Target they're like the price scanning guns they give you to do those. I hope they catch on elsewhere.

I do it all the time. Walmart is the only store around here that has it and theirs works really well. I take the bus so I always double bag my groceries and don't waste space in the bags. The few times I've gone to the regular cashier they do a terrible job of bagging and act put out when I ask them to double bag it. So I just skip the attitude and do it myself. Plus it's a lot easier to spot price errors.

The only thing I don't like is the machines don't always let you scan very fast...wish they would change that.

I think most "self-scan" checkouts are inhabited by Satan. So I usually use regular checkout lines. :teeth:

I usually use the U-scans although I hate it when they don't work! Although a lot of times at the stores near me the U-scans are pretty backed up too. Sometimes it's shorter just to go to a normal cashier.

I like U scans but they seem to never work for me without human intervention.
