Well thought out doesn't seem to me like some who cracked. Sounds more like pre-meditated murder and attempted murder to me.

I also noticed that they used the word terrorist attack, which it most definatly was. What makes it substantially worse is the terrorism was perpetrated by a trusted person. If they are certain this man did this, he needs to be dealt with swiftly and finally.

He will be tried in accordance with military law. If the commanding officer decides to press charges then a court martial will be convened with 5 members. There won't be as much of the racism card played as you might think, court martials are far more controlled than a civilian court. All 5 members must agree and vote for the death penalty. After that a military member has more appeals than are available to a civilian. It is very doubtful that it could be accomplished in under several years.

Whatever punishment is given I do hope it's not death.

Was the american who fought along with the taliban life spared. Why not put him in prison just as they did this guy. HIs crime was just as bad.

I don't see this as vengance at all. I see this as justice at it simplest form. Hammurabi's Code, the basis for justice states "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth"
And as Ghandi said, "an eye for an eye, and soon the whole world is blind".

Regards

Rob

He wasn't a member of the US military. There's a big difference between the actions of a private citizen and the actions of a soldier. The soldier will be held to a higher standard - as he should be.

I vote for justice. If that means execution as a traitor - that's enough justice for me.

It's still a crime against HIS COUNTRY!

Death is not the answer to everything. Really what can a person get out of taking a life for another life.

THats twisted

Have you been in the armed forces? Are you a member of a military family?

What this person has done is much greater than that.

He is much worse than "the american who fought along with the taliban." He is a TRAITOR. And he didn't just do something like spy or defect (not sure if that's the right term). He orchestrated an ATTACK on his OWN UNIT!!

Why can't you understand the seriousness of this situation???

What he did was the equivalent of killing family. That's what units become. Knowing that your back is watched is tantamount to effective military operations. Trust makes fighting units work like clockwork.

If you don't understand what the military is or how it works I understand. If you choose not to let those that CHOSE to join the military be governed by the UCMJ then that's another issue altogether.

You know, I don't ever remember stating that I thought death was the answer to everything - what I said was if he was executed as a traitor it would be justice in my eyes.

What's twisted is expecting people to feel sympathy for a coward and a murderer. As I stated before, I feel sorrow for his parents but I don't feel anything for him. And if it had been my DD who was murdered by a comrade in arms while she slept, you can bet my feelings and opinions would be much uglier than they are now.

Why is it so hard to understand that not everyone believes that death is the answer?

It's also a crime against his fellow Soldiers. Men who trusted him with their lives. Men who trusted his to watch their backs. Men who had no reason to think for one moment that he would try to kill them. The fact that he used that trust against them makes this crime above and beyond that committed by John Walker Linhd (sp?). At least Linhd openly joined the ranks of the enemy, insted of hiding his feelings underneath an American uniform.

Maybe the military shouldn't execute him. I'm sure there are more than enough inmates at Leavenworth that can handle it for them.

WHy can't YOU understand that not EVERYONE have and BLOODTHIRST VENGEFUL EYE FOR AN EYE ATTITUDE as some so proudly display.

IF you read the previous post you would SEE that I stated I'm not nor have I ever been in the military. I can't say how some of the soldiers feel while over there. NOr can I understand how a parent feels who just lost their child because mine are here at HOME playing.
I can't say I know how a military wife or husband feel because my dh and I are here HOME WITH OUR KIDS!!

I can't say I want this person put to death regardless of the crime because I AM A PARENT!! I WOULDN'T WISH IT ON SOMEONE ELSE'S CHILD BECAUSE I WOULDN'T WANT IT DONE TO MINE.

How would you feel if it was YOUR child or spouse that was killed? I'm sure natural instincts take over. I'm sure you would want to see the perpertrator punished to the full extent of the law. I know I would. In this case death is the full extent of the law.

I am also a parent. But I believe in CONSEQUENCES. Let the chips fall where they may.

There is no consequence for treason other than death.

Now if you don't mind, could you back up? Your bleeding heart is dripping on my shoes.
