U Mass Grad Student - Tillman was a "prophetic idiot" - Your thoughts?

I didn't bother reading that whole thing, so I can't comment on it other than to say that Pat Tillman was a true hero and people who say he isn't don't know the definition of the word "hero"!

It's a sad day when we read articles like this. I understand we live in a country where we have the right to express our thought. Good, bad or bordering on lunacy.

I for one Thank God for men and women who give up everythink, some making the ultimate sacrifice their lives, so we will remain a country thats free.

We are a country of open doors that allows everyone to come and see what real freedom is all about. Why do they come to this country? By the millions. Because of men and women like Pat Tillman, who believe in that freedom.

Yes Pat Tillman is a hero like so many others.

Besides being in total agreement with what everyone else said, I just wanted to add one more thing. The fact that this was written and published at a State run school makes me furious. As a State funded school, someone should be responsible for editing articles like this. While I believe that we should have the right to publish our opinions, the venue of a State run school is not appropriate.

Shame on this young man and shame on the administration of U Mass.

Just a quick update.

Of course ALL the local TV stations were out at the UMass Amherst campus yesterday to cover this 'story' Lots of opinions. Apparently, Mr. Gonzalez was not on campus, and could not 'be found' as his safety and that of his family had been threatened (according to him).

I heard that this MORON apologized to the Tillman family....via email to a Boston radio station. Kind of a weak apology if you ask me.

It wasn't an article - it was an opinion peice, and there wasa counter-opinion on the same page. I'm am NOT defending this guy, but we did print opinion/counter-opinion editorials all the time in our college newspaper. (Nothing this controversial.) I don't think that it shouldn't have been printed simply because it's a state-run university. The journalism students are there to learn how to make a newspaper - they wouldn't learn much if the school admin stepped in to edit their decisions.

As for it not being printed, perhaps you'd feel differently if YOUR taxes were going to support trash like this!
