Typhoon Lagoon the day before closing for Refurb?

We're visiting in October, and my kids want to do a water park for the first time. Based on our research, I think we'd enjoy Typhoon Lagoon more than Blizzard Beach. We will be arriving late on the 25th, and Typhoon Lagoon is scheduled to be down for refurbishment starting October 27th. We would have to go on the 26th, which is also a Saturday.

Does anyone have experience with this--going on a weekend right before a refurb? I'm worried that it will be super crowded because I've heard a lot of locals use the waterparks and maybe they will be trying to squeeze in one more Typhoon Lagoon day before it closes.

Of course, we already know the weather may not cooperate--we're just looking for insight into the crowds.

What do you think?

I really don't think so for a few reasons.

First it goes down for rehab at this time because its a slow time for WPs.

Second the reason why is to locals, ITS WINTER and FREEZING to them. If its less than 80 degrees they would be afraid of getting hypothermia. :rotfl:

Except of course for the local Polar Bear Club, they brave temps all the way down to the low 70s.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease:)

I honestly didn't even think about the weather in terms of cold--only rain/lightning. We're from Colorado, so any Florida weather is going to be warm to us. My kids once did an outdoor swim meet in the snow (freakily sudden flurries in late May:rotfl2:)

I'm all for "cooler" weather if it keeps the crowds down.

I was on a band trip one Feburary.

The week started cold and only got colder as the week went on. Last day it was around 50 degrees or so but full sun.

I wore a lightly lined jacket and only kept it on because I didn't want to carry it around. All the local CM's were in wool coats, stocking caps and gloves. I met a suit CM from Mass and he was in just a long sleeve shirt.

Currently its 42 here, I think Florida schools shut down if it hits this temp in the "dead" of winter. :goodvibes

I say this because my sister lived in Tennessee and then Florida. She could barely handle spring up north. She moved back to PA 4 years ago and I'm not sure how she survived.

And from Colorado didn't you get 2 feet of snow this week?

I'm not sure it was 2 feet where I live (Denver metro,) but over the past couple of weeks we've had several inches and below freezing weather. Of course, those snowy days are being followed by days in the mid-60's so the snow melts quickly. Its just a normal Colorado spring--kids in shorts at the bus stops with only a "hoodie" while actual snow is falling:rotfl: I fight the good fight every day to get my kids to wear a coat!

Now, I did hear on the news last night that some of the ski areas that closed a few weeks ago are re-opening because some have gotten as much as 47 inches of new snow in the last couple of weeks!

I don't think we'll have a problem handling Florida "winter"

In October 2011 we went to Typhoon Lagoon the day before it closed for refurb and it wasn't overly crowded but it also wasn't on a Saturday. Just get there early. Like 30 minutes prior to opening and get the main rides out of the way early. Then as it gets more crowded you can do the lazy river and wave pool.
