SHARK REEF: is there an age limit for children to be able to snorkle in the Shark Reef?

I've read varying info on this: minimum age 9; minimum age 10; minimum age 6; minimum age NOT to be accomp. by an adult 10; no minimum age as long as accomp. by an adult.......

HEEEELP!! My DS, 7 (almost 8) is REALLY into sharks (no pun -- sorry, JAWS), and can snorkle. If he won't be able to "swim with the sharks," I'd like to be able to break it to him ASAP.

:earseek:

There is also a somewhat new experience at the reef. Almost half the pool is reserved for people willing to pay for a near private shark/fish experience. You used compressed air and have about 30 minutes to swim back and forth. I did it last May and loved it! It was my first time using compressed air and that took a little getting use to (bubbles flying by my face) but once I did, it was fascinating. I can't wait to do it again this trip.

I don't know what or if there's an age requirement but I think the cost was $20. If your son is old enough, this would be perfect for him. There are far less people who bump into you and create a lot of splashing.

For me, it was the best money I spent during last year's trip!

*Imagine... only 9 days, 0 hours and 28 minutes till WDW!*

im pretty sure that 10 is the minimum age, but my map from a few weeks ago make no mentions about age or height restrictions for anything, which means you might not know for sure until you walk up to the attraction.

I did it last month with my 7 year old daughter. They never mentioned and we never saw a sign about an age requirement. To be honest though she is as tall as many 9 or 10 year olds but I never saw anyone that even looked like they were checking. I also never saw anyone checking heights. But once again she is well over 48" so we never had to really think about height restrictions.

They give you a wet suit top and the mask and snorkle to use. I don't know if you can bring your own or not. But, theirs seemed like a pretty good quality. And it's only about a 50 foot swim so it's not like you are spending a whole day using shoddy rental stuff.

My daughter who is a good swimmer had never really snorkled before so we didn't really get to enjoy the attraction. She was more interested in just getting across the tank. If your son knows how to snorkle he will really enjoy it.

Also, be sure and go in to the hull of the "sunken" ship. It is a fun underwater observation area.

Our DS, who was 6 at the time, snorkled last July- no one questioned us.

Casey Jr. - I was so worried about this too. My in-laws went to Discovery Cove and filled my DD(who is barely 9) with tales of dolphins. I had to tell her that no, we can't afford that but we CAN snorkel with sharks!! She is super excited.

Anyway, I kept getting those same mixed-messages...where do they come from??? A CM wrote me on another post once and said you just need to be accompanied by an adult. I'm going with that info in FIVE MORE DAYS!!!

Have fun!

Have fun, timbud1!!!! When you get back, PLEASE post about Shark Reef and let us know what your DD thought about it!

We went last year and our youngest ds just turned 8 on our trip. He is small for his age and he did this. I even saw smaller children, too. So go and have fun and enjoy your trip!!:D

This part of TL was closed when we visited once in Jan. and last trip in Feb. it just never warmed up to go to water park. Does anyone know if shark reef would be open the week after Pres. Day week?
