Typhoon Lagoon question

The water in the shark reef is 10 1/2 feet, they have life jackets available if needed.

Does this cost extra over and above the cost to get into TL or is it included?

When you do the shark reef you are not allowed to "dive", the instructors tell you to stay on the surface and make your way across the pool. :)

My boys were 9 and 7 when we were at TL and neither one was a real "deep water" swimmer at the time. They were intimidated by the Shark Reef at first, but relaxed when they saw that the life jackets would hold them up and that I was right beside them.

They wound up really loving the Shark Reef and swam it a total of 4 times in 2 days.

My family highly recommends this experience!!

Mmmm, maybe we'll try this. Hopefully the weather will be warm enough. We went to TL a few years ago, but I was completely unaware of this part. My 14 year old would LOVE it!

DH has done this, I sat it out. He loved it, and being that we went in summer, he didn't complain about the water temperature at all. ANY water in July is appreciated. ;)

Are you allowed to use a water camera to take pictures of the reefs and sharks? Do the sharks come up to the surface by the swimmers? This sounds so exciting. My DD who is 14 would love this.

Yes, you can use underwater cameras. The sharks usually stay near the bottom of the reef.

The shark reef is very cool, a real unique experience. We did it on a past Nov. visit and I don't remember the water being cold. Guess it was real hot out and didn't mind. :)

This is so much fun! Even though we were here in August the water was still freezing. It is salt water. I found a couple of scrapes that I didn't know I had. LOL.

Did this with DD and DS aged 9 and 7 when the park reopened after it's refurbishment.

Both loved it, especially DD who's really into wildlife. Biggest problem was getting the mask to fit them, as they seem to supply a standard size for everyone - adults and children alike.

They do provide wetsuit jackets to keep you warm(er) in the water.

My biggest problem was I wear glasses, so in my dive mask I have prescription lenses. As I never brought my mask, I tried using theirs, but couldn't see too much. In the end I used my goggles (with prescription lenses) and their snorkel. Not ideal, but it worked for the short time you're in the water.

Helps if you can use a snorkel already.

Look out for the little hammerhead shark.
