Planning a family group trip to Typhoon lagoon on Thursday, Aug. 12. Can anyone estimate how bad the crowds will be? We were planning on going late, say from 2-7 but have read that's not a great strategy. Help! I'm an orlando local but have never done a water park before.

I think you only have to worry about the crowds being really bad on the weekends. School has started in some parts of FL already too, so that should help keep the local crowds down.

Have fun!

Your afternoon strategy is a good one. Whatever everyone else does, DO THE OPPOSITE! :smooth: MOST people arrive at opening, fight over lounge chairs, and are wiped out by 1:00 . There is a mass exodus about this time.

The only downside is it's hotter than in the moring - but hey, you're at a waterpark!

We visited TL for the first time in July and did the same thing. We arrived after 2pm and the crowds were considerly small. We stayed until closing at 7pm. The crowds diminished as time went by. I'd say you won't have any problem.

We went to TL on Friday, July 30th. We got there at opening. I didn't feel like the park was crowded the whole day (we were there from 9-5:30). The only "LONG" line was for the family raft ride - about a 30 minute wait all day. The rest of the slides were a minimal wait - maybe 10-15 minutes at the most. The only problem you may have is finding enough chairs for everyone. However, we did see some people leaving around the time you will be arriving. Enjoy. It's a fun park. LOTS of shade. I expected it to be hotter than it was.

Yeah, around 2-3, more people are leaving and it seems like you're the only one going in. If you drive, you can most likely find an up front spot.

Personally, I like BB better and tend to refer to TL as BB Lite. The family raft ride at TL is disappointing compared to BB's (especially the line for such a short ride) and Humunga Cowabunga is no Summit Plummet. So unless you're going for the tropical theming, the wave pool (beware, it's strong) or to swim with the sharks (the water is cold), I'd say head to BB. And if ou want to do Summit Plummet, be there when they drop the rope at 9am b/c by 9:15, the wait is already 1/2 hr.

Thanks to all for the quick replies, I feel I can plan the day now with no big worries. I have heard that BB is for the action-oriented, however I am pretty much a wimp-ette (afraid of the drop in Pirates of the Caribbean, isn't it pitiful?) and have a 5 year old in our party as well as 2 teens and four geezer parents. So, TL is pretty much most of our group can manage. :o
