Two Weeks of Dining with the Aloha Crew, June 2013 - *Complete*

Boma Breakfast is usually our traditional breakfast before we leave.

This trip we decided to switch that with Crystal Palace.

Today, we have Boma for Breakfast!! Our Favorite!!

Jungle Juice

Carving Station

Pancake with various toppings and pecan sticky buns.

Bacon with seasoned potato wedges

Chocolate Chip Muffin, Bacon, and Pancake

Carved Ham and seasoned breakfast potatoes.

Boma is a delicious breakfast. I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is fresh, hot, and good. Aaron also had a make your own omelet. He really enjoyed it but the picture came out so blurry, I couldn't post it.

.

Since we had such a huge breakfast at Boma we decided to snack around Magic Kingdom for lunch.

Our first stop was at The Adventureland Egg Roll Wagon

We got one vegetable egg roll and a corn dog.

Later we walked by the Frontierland Churro Cart

We picked up a Churro

We really enjoyed all of these and felt they were good. We would get them all again.

Dinner was at Columbia Harbour House

Menu:

Allison & Shawn had the Chicken Breast Nugget Meal her staple at Disney World:

Aaron had the Batter Fish Basket

I had the Fried Shrimp platter/ Shrimp only:

We really enjoyed everything, it was hot fresh and good. The fish look nasty from the picture but it was good.

Later we had 2 buckets of Popcorn from the Popcorn cart I forgot to photograph.

We had an awesome day and really enjoyed our meals today.

.

Refreshment Port

Menu:

Aaron & Shawn got the Spicy Chicken Sandwich

Allison got the Chicken Nuggets

The said these were ok but nothing special, I think they were missing Chick-fil-a. Haha! Allison said these were not her Disney Chicken nuggets and they were different. So we will not be returning to The Refreshment Port.

So it was a really hot day, or least it felt like it to my family.

Aaron was really hot and kept complaining. All he wanted to do was swim and I wanted to eat lunch at World Showcase and then swim. He wanted to leave right after he ate at the Refreshment Port. So I said, let me eat lunch and then we will leave. He was tired and hot and I was hungry, not a good combo but we made it through the afternoon and back to BLT to swim the afternoon away!, Eventually!!!

So to start, I was pumping frozen drinks in Aaron like crazy. I originally wanted to go to the Tangerine Cafe for lunch. but I ended up at another place we will not mention again after this post!! It was terrible.

The first frozen drink we encountered was:

Kabuki Cafe in Japan, I ordered the Kakigori rainbow with cherry. It was so good and I will be getting another at Spring Break!

Our next frozen drink was from the Fife & Drum Tavern and we ended up with a Raspberry Slush and We also stopped at the Africa Refreshment Outpost for a Frozen Coke.

Next we encountered the Lotus Blossom Cafe for Lunch, Like I originally said, I was going to stop by Tangerine Cafe for lunch but since Aaron wasn't feeling well I wanted to take care of him first. So by the time I got the frozen coke from African Outpost, I was downright frustrated and just decided to eat at Lotus Blossom. BIG MISTAKE!!!

DO NOT EVER MAKE A DECISION WHEN YOU ARE FRUSTRATED!!

I had the vegetable egg rolls and the Beef Rice Bowl. The vegetable egg rolls were fine but the Beef Rice Bowl was just gross. It tasted like a plain pot roast over rice. I was expecting something with a little more zing to it but it was not. So I do not recommend the Beef Rice Bowl unless you like plain roast over rice. I took one bite didn't finish it and threw it in the trash!

So we will not mention Lotus Blossom Cafe after this post ever again!

Our last Frozen Drink of the Day is by far my favorite:

We stopped by the Joy of Tea and I got the Mango green tea slush. I love this drink.

So we headed back to BLT to swim and sleep, we needed rest because we had dinner at Ohana and planned to crash the Magic Kingdom for more Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom!

Wow! Thanks for sharing so many wonderful pictures and reviews! I have enjoyed reading them and seeing a few places we have not tried before. We stumbled upon Trail's Edge in July 2012, and agree that is a gem! I am looking forward to your next updates. :thumbsup2

Wow so many updates, thanks so much. Everything, besides Lotus Blossom Cafe, looked great. My DD is obsessed with eating the orange chicken from Lotus so hopefully that'll be much better than your beef!!

I really hope the orange chicken is much better! :) Thank You for reading along.

Just got all caught up - I must have missed a lot of updates while I was away in October and don't seem to have caught up since then.

Of course, I should learn not to read dining reports when I have a trip coming up as I am now second-guessing my ADRs. With the new rules having been introduced, I am reluctant to make any changes as it will mean I have to give my CC details to secure an ADR now and, more importantly, am more tied to it.

However, I am secretly hoping that the new rules will make it easier to get walk-ups now, so with any luck the places you've reviewed that I now desperately want to try, we might have luck with (who am I kidding, walk-ups during Spring Break - I can but hope, right?) ;)

Ohana

After our afternoon of swimming and resting we headed to Ohana for dinner. We had an early 5pm reservation.

Menu Pic:

We were taken to our table and along the way our host picked up the Ohana Welcome Bread:

I really wish this was served with some type of butter sweet butter. It would be amazing but with out the butter it is just plane pineapple bread.

We were taken to our table and we had a window seat with this amazingly beautiful view:

I know it is just wooden building planks and vegetation but I felt it was beautiful and added to our dinner ambiance.

Next they brought out the Mixed Greens Salad with Lilikoi dressing.

I didn't try the salad or the bread because I save room for the other foods that are served at this dinner. My family stated the bread needs butter and my husband ate the salad. He said, it was better than he expected since the change but he misses the other salad dressing from the past.

They also bring out the sauces with the salad.

This is a peanut and sweet and sour sauce. I really enjoy the meats dipped in these sauces. So good but I am a sauce girl, the more the better.

Next, we received the Pork Dumplings with Sweet and Sour Sauce and Honey-Coriander Chicken Wings.

I can make a meal out of these, so good. I love to dip the dumplings in the sweet and sour sauce and the chicken wings were fab. I have always loved these two items at Ohana and I could make a meal out of just these 2 lovely yum yums!

At the same time our server brought out the wings and dumplings, the server dropped off the noodles tossed in teriyaki sauce and the stir-fried vegetables.

I really enjoyed the noodles, in fact, I ate almost all of the portion that was brought to us. We didn't try the stir fried vegetables. We were saving room for everything else we were eating so no review on those.

Then the meats started to make their way to us.

Szechuan Sirloin Steak

We asked for well-done, and received well-done. I didn't eat any but my family said it was tender and delicious, they also said the sauce really made the steak taste better than they remember in the past.

Next up is the Char-Sui pork loin:

I was surprised this was tender and had a very nice taste to it. I enjoyed it but pork is not my favorite.

My favorite was the grilled chicken skewer, I am a chicken fan and I love to find a nice tender flavorful piece of chicken and Ohana did not disappoint me here. There was a sauce on the chicken and it was very good.

We didn't try the Spicy grilled peel and eat shrimp, so we have zero pictures or reviews. My husband is allergic and I detest peel and eat shrimp, I hate to peel it. Aaron will eat peel and eat shrimp but passed it up this night.

While we were eating our waiter dropped off these lovely warm towels to wash our hands with.

Dessert at Ohana is the Ohana Bread Pudding a la mode topped with Caramel sauce and Bananas.

I did not eat dessert, this is too sweet for my taste but Shawn and Aaron ate it and Shawn declared it was good as always.

Allison surprisingly doesn't like the bread pudding so she always asks for ice cream.

Our server brought her vanilla with mickey sprinkles and she loved it as usual.

Overall we had a wonderful meal at Ohana, everything was hot and fresh. We were a little worried because of the changes. I didn't find I missed the third sauce and I like the changes that were made to the meats. My husband did miss the old salad but said the new one was good.

So we still recommend Ohana!

:thumbsup2

After our dinner at Ohana, we went the Magic Kingdom to play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.

We had so much fun playing this game and collecting our cards every day.

We made a stop by Sunshine Tree Terrace:

There is a Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game portal right by here so I had plenty of time to look around and observe my surroundings.

I noticed this:

Yum, right up my alley.

This was really good and refreshing on a hot evening. It was tart and sweet, very good. I liked it. I am a sour candy fan, so this got my fan turning!

On our way out of Magic Kingdom we picked more popcorn and a Minute Maid frozen orange. This is the stand located at the entrance/exit of Magic Kingdom near the Guest Service building.

Delicious fresh hot popped popcorn:

Minute Maid soft frozen orangeade:

We had a wonderful evening, we were able to let Aaron and Allison enjoy Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, ride a few of our favorite rides and grab more snacks to add to our day!

Yum, everything looks great! I have been meaning to go to Wolf Gang Puck Express for breakfast but never make it over there. Looks so good.

Hi Tina! :wave2: I'm all caught up on the dining reviews and now I am SOOOO HUNGRY!!!

ESPN looked really good...especially those nachos and red wings. And you've sold me on Trail's End. That looks like a great buffet, and for all four of you to come in under $100 is pretty darn good on Disney property.

We LOVE Ohana and your pictures made me glad that we've got reservations to eat their again on our upcoming trip! Thanks for the awesome photos!

I’m playing a little catch-up here….

Awww - love the 2008 Princess tea party pictures - so sweet. I love your tea room tradition - we really need to try that.

Sounds like the Contempo Cafe was kind of hit or miss there. That’s really too bad. Nice to have a CS option in the resort though (can you tell we’re used to the Boardwalk???).

 I love the idea of MK treats for breakfast!!! How fun!

I don’t think we’ll be hitting Tortuga Tavern anytime soon. I have this weird aversion to that kind of cheese stuff. I wonder why the chips and stuff were stale! That’s just not right.

Loved seeing TE again! We will definitely be trying it out if we stay at WL on our next trip. And maybe even if we don’t! Everything looks tasty, and it seems like a fun place. I love that you can get a baked potato! YUM!

The Boma breakfast looks great. I have only tried Boma for dinner to date.

The MK lunch snacks look delish as well. :woohoo:

Wow - CHH really gives a lot of food. I’m glad to hear it was all yummy.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen food from the Refreshment Port before. I guess I know why now!

All the frozen drinks look good, but what a shame about the Lotus Blossom. :(

Glad you had a great dinner at ‘Ohana. Everything definitely looked very tasty.

Hi :) Happens to me almost every time I read a review, I want to make dining changes. I hear you about the new CC rules. During this trip we cancelled a few an ADR for dinner at lunch and rescheduled at another restaurant. That was the first time we did that and it was nice. I will miss not being able to change with a 4-5 hour notice. I hope walk ups are easier to get. I have been noticing reservations open for very popular restaurants that normally would be sold out. I think it is helping a bit so you never know.

Yum, everything looks great! I have been meaning to go to Wolf Gang Puck Express for breakfast but never make it over there. Looks so good.

It is very good, if you ever get the chance I recommend it. We normally would not have the chance but we stayed off site at a hotel in DTD for the first 2 days of our trip and just headed on over for breakfast. We were able to find a parking spot without a problem that early. So it was close and accessible at the time but normally it seems so far away.

Makes me hungry posting the pictures :) My family decide to skip Ohana on our next trip and try other restaurants but we plan to head back on future trips. It is a family favorite.

Frozen Drink family! LOL!

I see MK treats in our future :)

So sad about stale chips and taco shells, it just upsets me because that is my favorite CS option at MK. I use to eat it almost every CS meal at MK.

Tina,

Thanks so much for the reviews. Your review of Ohana just reaffirmed for me that I've made a good choice. I can't wait!!!

We are taking our two younger grandkids to the World for two weeks. At the end of two weeks, my husband's son is flying down with the two older boys. The day the three of them arrive I've made our reservations for Ohana for dinner and then we'll go down to the beach to watch the fireworks. The next day the two younger ones are flying home with my husband's son and we are taking the older ones to southern Flordia to go deep sea fishing. I wanted to do something special for the older guys since they are not joining us in the World. This will be perfect!!!

Thank You - I am glad, I really hope you enjoy Ohana as much as we do and you enjoy the fireworks from Ohana's Beach.

Yorkshire Fish Shop UK Pavilion
Les Vins de Chefs de France France Pavilion

The kids were hungry for Fish and Chips so we made our second stop at Yorkshire Fish Shop in the UK pavilion at Epcot.

This is one of their favorites:

Menu:

Les Vins de Chefs de France

The kids decided they wanted ice cream after their lunch at Yorkshire, so we made a stop in France to try out the new ice cream shop.

They enjoyed their ice cream and we will be returning to both of these places.

.

Tangierine Cafe & La Cantina de San Angel

I decided to have the vegetable Platter it is Falafel, tangierine couscous salad, hummus, tabouleh, lentil salad and marinated olives.

I didn't enjoy everything on the plate. But I absolutely loved the marinated olives , hummus, and the bread. I also enjoyed the green looking salad but felt it was heavy on raw onions. I wouldn't get the vegetable platter again but I would order the bread, hummus, and marinated olives as a side and eat it.

La Cantina de San Angel

My husbands favorite is the nachos from La Cantina de San Angel.

Nachos - corn tortilla chips with ground beef, nacho cheese, fresh tomatoes, jalapeno, black beans, and sour cream.

We ended up sitting inside La Hacienda de San Angel. If you want some shelter from the heat during the lunch hour, La Hacienda is open to eat your lunch from La Cantina de San Angel. After you get your food just head to the right like you are going to sit under the covered gazebo area but instead head in the double doors on the left.

Here is a picture of the beautiful ceiling and lights at La Hacienda de San Angel.

Again, we would definitely return to both of these counter service restaurants.

.

We ended up at Magic Kingdom after a morning at Epcot and we swam the afternoon away at Bay Cove Pool at BLT.

We had dinner at Cosmic Ray's but I didn't take any photos, so I will not be reviewing that portion.

We did have a lovely snack from Sleepy Hollow.

But we did have a Funnel Cake from Sleepy Hollow dusted with powdered sugar.

This was our first time having a funnel cake from Sleepy Hollow and it was so good, fried sweet goodness to be exact. We will be having another one of these on our upcoming return trip March/April 2014.

.

Contempo Cafe Breakfast

Waffles with Bacon, You have to love Mickey Waffles especially this big one. This is DD favorite so we had to get Mickey Waffles for breakfast again.

My husband got the Bounty Platter - Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Turkey Sausage, Breakfast Potatoes, French Toast, and Biscuit.

Good as always :)

Aaron got the Breakfast Platter - Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Turkey Sausage, Breakfast Potatoes, and Biscuit.

I got the Breakfast Sandwich - with Grilled Ham, Egg, and Cheddar Cheese.

I didn't like this breakfast sandwich and breakfast sandwiches are my favorite. I felt this was very dry and the egg was very hard, cold, and overcooked. I was really sad, I ended up not eating all of this but I knew we had a big day of food ahead of us so that was ok. Next time, I will definitely stick with the classics like the Bounty Platter, Breakfast Platter, and the Mickey Waffles.
