two ways in luggage on plane??

Has anyone taken two way radios in luggage on airplane since 9-11?? I planned on packing them in the checked baggage but I have had people tell me the suitcase will get pulled from the plane and I won't know it.
I thought if I tried to carry them on I'll definitely have them confiscated. My DS got really nice ones for a birthday present and would like to take them rather than have to rent them in disney
any advice from someone who's flown with them recently would be great thanks

There should not be any problem with you carrying them on the plane. The restriction would be on using them.

I just got back from a trip from Western Canada and they made me turn on the radios to show they they worked just like they do with a cell phone. Make sure the batteries work - one of mine didn't and I had to take the good batteries from one and put into the other one to prove they both worked. If they don't work, they will take them from you.

thanks for the info. I was going to take the batteries out of the units now I'll make sure I put fresh batteries in when we leave
