Two use years at one resort

I've been doing searches all evening long and can't find the answer to this question. If I own two different use years at a single resort, can I combine the points from those two contracts at the 11 month mark for that resort?

I think, from my reading, that these two use years are two separate contracts and thus not eligible to be combined. I'd have to transfer between the two to combine points.

Is this correct?

You could reserve some nights with one contract and additional nights with the other. Or you could use your once a year transfer and transfer the points from one to the other (some members have said that MS will allow them to transfer their own contracts without worrying about the once a year rule - I've always been told I just used my once a year transfer). A transfer maintains the resort and UY. You just have to make sure you can use the points from the second UY.

For example, you want to take a trip in June 2012. You have a Sept UY and a May UY. Your Sept 2012 points could not be borrowed if you transferred them. If you transferred 2011 points they could be used because a June 2012 trip falls in your Sept 2011 UY, not your Sept 2012 UY.

If you were looking at a June 2013 trip, you would bank your May 2012 points because a June 2013 trip falls in your May 2013 UY. But it would fall in your Sept 2012 UY. Once you banked those May points, you couldn't transfer them. You'd need to transfer first into your Sept 2012 UY and then bank them (they wouldn't be able to be used in June 2013 because they would expire the month before).

Confused now??

You can bank transferred points, but you cannot borrow transferred points. You have to transfer into the same year (2012 into 2012).

yep.

without using your transfers, you'd have to book an oct 1 stay for 7 nights for 4 nights at the 11 month window on nov 1 with contract A...and then call back 4 days later to book a separate reservation for 3 nights with contract B and ask MS to link the reservations.

That's right. We own two different use years at OKW ... August and September. It's a little cumbersome, but we generally just do the once a year transfer, or bank/borrow enough to make a small reservation with just that contract. It's not as seamless as all in one use year, but it works. It helps that it's a small contract (only 25 points), which makes it a little less worrisome.

Thanks Deb. I think this makes sense. I do have a follow-on question though, what are you allowed to transfer?

What can I do to use year A before transferring to use year B (both use years have the ability to make the reservation)? Can I pull together 3 years of points on use year A, thus getting them all to one year and then transfer over to B? Or, can I just have banked into A before transferring to B?

current year pts. that's it. read her post again...

you cannot bank or borrow pts and then transfer them. only current year pts can be transferred.

once you transfer the pts, transferred pts may be banked forward one year.

transferred pts may not be borrowed, though.

But don't banked or borrowed points become current year points of the year you bank or borrow into?

Thank you, this is what I was looking for.
