Two trips or one long trip?

Which would you do?

  • two smaller trips (both five nights in a studio)

  • one long trip (BCV for five, Poly for two and VWL for another five)

Shan - I have to say I'd go for the two shorter trips. We stayed 9 nights about a year ago and it was really too long for us. I also think that we're starting to get that Disney burnout too and I think it started with the longer trip. We're creatures of habit so we'd repeat a lot of what we already did, so things started to feel redundant. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I wanted to add... Just becasue you kids dont seem that excited now... maybe they will be as the trip approaches. I think, since they have been so often, the anticapation is lower, but the enjoyment can still be there... if that makes sense.

And I still vote for the longer trip, just becasue it could be a more relaxing trip

Hi Shan!

Voted for the longer trip mainly because years ago when we were able to, we would do 2 weeks whenever possible because for dh, he is so busy busy and stressed out all the time and says that it really takes him a day or 2 minimum just to finally feel like he's getting relaxed and feels like he's even on vacation. Then he would only get 4 days of completely relaxed days during the week and the last day he'd end up back into that stressed mode again thinking about all he had to do when he got back home :bitelip: So for us (or I guess I should say more for my dh) the extra time really makes a difference in how much of break he gets. The longer vacation really was much more of a break and refresher for him...and it defintely is much nicer having the extra time in WDW! :teeth: The old "time flies when your having fun" thing seems to go by faster and faster with every trip  Plus if you truely feel you're getting burned out with all the trips than the extra time in between won't seem as much of a big deal. I just wish we could take 2 weeks in a row again (dh's job won't allow him to be away for that long as of right now
:( ) . Best of luck and let us know what you finally decide :wave2:

At first I was going to recommend two shorter trips, but after I read about your kids burn out, I would lean toward one longer trip.

Good luck... :drinking:

Ditto to the pp...I was going to say take the two shorter trips, but after reading everything else you said, I think the one long trip would be better for you. And long trips are wonderful anyway!! We were there for 12 nights last month, we still did not have enough time in the parks (of course we got sick and lost time, but still...) We DID however get sick of living in a resort room...but we were staying in a standard room at AKL, and I think if we had been in a one-bedroom in a DVC resort, it would have made ALL the difference.

Good luck! :)

We prefer longer slower paced trips. We usually stay 10 - 12 days in June.
Whenever we have done a short trip, I always feel more stress about trying to fit everything in. I would vote for the longer trip. Good luck.

that is it on shorter trips you DON't fit everything in - you don't need too you will be back!

I voted 2 short trips - take the girls to places they want. You can definitely get an overload at WDW - too much is too much. there are some wonderful outlet malls close by. other water parks besides WDW. and if they like roller coaster - US/IOA is not that far. If they like animals both SW and CG aren't too far - (CG is in Tampa and is around 90 minutes). there is a local zoo - one in both Orlando and Kissimmee - much cheaper than WDW.

they have reopened Cypress Gardens if they like flowers - well WDW does flowers - very, very well -

maybe if you can vary when you go - and do the things in season.

make each trip fun and different.

I would go for the longer June trip because: it's something new and different for you. But I would only do it if you can go in early June before the big, bad crowds hit. FWIW, we were there this past January, for a week beginning with MLK weekend, and it was very, very cold. No lines, but it was also too cold to stay for EMH at night. June sounds like way more fun--better pool weather too!

I'm torn, but here are my thougts:

1. Do you have time to see how they do with the April trip? That will tell you a lot. If they are not thrilled when they get there, hold off a bit on your next trip.

2. Will your kids be able to be on vacation that long? I've seen many children not be able to handle being off a normal schedule for that long. Maybe yours are better, maybe you can maintain a decent schedule while at WDW, especially with such a long trip and no need to rush? Just something to think about.

Personally, I would go for 2 trips to make my time between shorter. However, I've been to WDW less than you 7YO, so I'm nowhere near burnout!

One last thought, your kids lack of excitement may not be burn out. They always know they're ocming back and roughly when, right? So, maybe, unlike those of us who have gone through the "I'm leaving and don't know when I'll be back trama", they just know they'll be back. Not that they won't enjoy every minute, but te y just don't have withdrawl.

I would have liked a third choice...one short, and one long. :cool1:
But you got my vote for two shorts....Seems as though by going twice a year the withdrawls aren't as bad. :earsboy:

Thanks everyone for all the opinions and votes! Still haven't decided, though... :confused3

My online time has been limited lately, I've been so busy!

I'm really hoping we have a great time, we have less than 11 days to go...

I'll see how my kids do this trip. I still think we need a break... pirate:

I would opt for the longer trip. We are heading for a 13 day trip to VWL this upcoming December.

Shan,

I voted for two shorter trips, but we've never been more than 7 days. And I have never been where I didn't wish for "one more day!", so maybe I'm not the right person to ask. Two long trips would be more my speed, but like your husband, it would be hard to be away from work for more that a week at a time.

I'll bet you're kids have picked up on your lack of enthusiasm for the upcoming trip. Maybe it's because you've been so busy. I've had that exact same feeling, and when I walked down Main Street, as Emeril would say, "BAM"! The magic was back. I predict y'all will have a great time this trip.

Voted for one long trip but personally would not do a two night at Poly. My sense is four is better and three minimum stay at a resort. Otherwise I feel like I am traveling for business (in and out, in and out). But that is me.

Wow. I just looked at your signature, Shan. We've been a lot recently, but not as much as you! I guess it's possible to need a break, although I'm not there yet. I wouldn't mind being at SAB right now, as a matter of fact.

I'm trying to sneak a June trip in to AkL AP rate (WL is booked). We'll be in San Diego in August, so we may spend a couple of days at DL instead. I haven't looked at the cost of tickets, etc yet.

I have to agree that you can burn out with TOO many trips! That is why we go 3 times a year for about 25 days total one year, and then take a year off before we start the process over again. That's also why we never renew our APs but buy a new one every other year. This is our "off year" , so we wont have a trip until 12/31-1/10. Next year will be our on year, so we will do two more trips of at least a week in length after the January 10 day trip.
