We'll be cruising on the Dream this November with twin toddlers who will be just under 2 years old. We're planning on having one sleep on the sofa bed with guardrails, but unsure where the second will sleep.

We think they'll have outgrown pack n plays by that point, and think that it might be too dangerous to have one in the top bunk even with guardrails in place. Any suggestions? We'll be in a deluxe oceanview room so no there's no Murphy bed. Is there enough room to just place the mattress from the top bunk on the floor next to the sofa bed? Are there better options? Thanks in advance.

Would they be able to share the sofa bed? It seems like it would be big enough for two toddlers to fit with room to spare.

I would think there would be enough room to put the mattress on the floor (not much room to walk by though). I guess they could share the Queen with bedrails and the adults could do the single beds (but not sure you would want to do that....). I would think the mattress on the floor would work out fine.

I second this idea -- with heads at opposite ends of the sofa, there should be plenty of room for 2 toddlers with the bedrail. Your stateroom host is likely familiar with this option as well and will make the bed to be slept in at both ends.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't considered putting them both on the sofa bed. We'll have to do a trial run one night before the cruise to see if they'll cooperate. But in case they don't, would putting a mattress on the floor be a feasible backup option?

You might be able to do the single sofabed with a pillow between their feet. Or put them head to head (heads in middle). I don't think bunks are recommended for little ones, no matter where they are, but that's up to you.

Did you ever short sheet a bed in college? You can probably use short sheeting to make two separate sleeping compartments on the sofa, so the twins aren't boxing in the middle of the night. I would put them with their feet toward the center (heads at the ends).

Our 2.5 year old still fits in a pack n play ok enough. So it might still be an option as you get closer to sailing.

We had a not quite 2yo in the pack n play last time around and it was ok, if a little cramped, the mattress from the upper bunk shouldn't take up much more room than the pack n play did on the floor, so I would think that would be a viable backup if having them both on the sofabed doesn't end up working in the middle of the night! You may have to rearrange the furniture a bit.

I used to put my toddlers with heads at each end and feet in the middle on a single bed (on a train). Worked just fine. Otherwise, ask if they have an egg crate for the bed and just put it on the floor with bedding?

A mattress would work on the floor next to the sofa, it would be a tight walk through but it would work

My "big" girls are 4.5 and 2.5 and BOTH will still sleep in a pack n play when necessary. They can climb in and out and if you put a sheet over the top, then it's a "tent" and they like it even more.

My daughters (now 11 and 8) share the bottom bunk. Two 2 year olds should have no problem fitting together.

Thanks everyone! It looks like I'll have more than one option to try. I feel a lot better about this now.

They could both fit on the sofa bed. My son slept on that, and there was definitely enough space for another kid his size to fit next to him.

Definitely! One year when our youngest kids were about 4 and 5 (first cruise), they insisted on sleeping heads on opposite ends on the sofa bed. They came up with it and were doing it months (years really) after that first cruise at home. I think it gave them cruise memories to sleep like that. The next cruise they were using both bunks.

Nice! Maybe I can use this cruise as a way to just buy one bed for them. Not forever, though, since they're boy/girl twins.

Another one who had a 2+ yr old in the pack n play no problem. She's tall and was about 26 months at the time, but still fit no problem (though she could climb out). But if they'll share the sofa bed nicely, and still sleep, that will give you more space in the room for sure!

I would give Disney a call and see if you would even be allowed to move the bunk mattress to the floor. It might be considered a hazard or they may not want their mattress put on the floor. It also may not be fun moving that mattress every night. Do they provide cots? I think having them share the sofa bed with PPs suggestions may work.
