Day Two: Saturday, October 19, 2002
We wake up at 6am to go to our PS character breakfast at Hollywood & Vine, which is set for 9am. Well, since MGM opens at 8am for early entry today, we get there at 7:50am and realize that theres a separate line for PS and so we get over there and decide to eat earlier. We get in at 8am and I go straight for the first booth selling the 100th light up pins and buy all five along with a new lanyard. I went ahead and bought my sisters, cousin and mom a couple as well. We go over to Hollywood & Vine and are seated right away. I let DH go to the buffet first without me because I had to put on my pins on my lanyard, plus I had brought a ton of pins that I had leftover from two years ago which I had never traded away and I was eager to get rid of them for something better. As Im organizing my pins Goofy walks up and sits down across from me in my DHs chair. I was so excited, my first character! I immediately took a photo of him and told him to come back for my DH to see. He walked off. DH returns and I explain what all he missed and then run up to the buffet to grab my stuff quickly so that I wont miss any characters the way he did. During the breakfast we saw, Goofy, Chip, Dale, Minnie and Pluto. Then my waiter comes over to get me to stand up front of restaurant with a birthday cupcake and a birthday card with a balloon attached and the card is autographed by all the characters there at the breakfast. Then everyone sang happy birthday to me and all the other birthday kids. It was really too cute. I think I was the only adult up there with all the kids, but I didnt care, I was having fun! We finished breakfast and when we went outside, my DH suggested I give the balloon to one of the kids standing around since it wasnt practical to carry around myself. So I gave it to a little girl standing by and she ran up to her mother stating look, look, what I got! It was cute. We decide to go on The Great Movie Ride since its my favorite ride in this park and we didnt want to do anything too crazy since we had just eaten breakfast. It was a great ride as usual. DH isnt the biggest fan of this ride says its too boring. We then head over to Star Tours, DHs favorite ride. We of course loved it and then proceeded to Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. It had been a few years since I bothered to see this one and it was really good. We left there and decided there wasnt much else we wanted to do in the park at the time, we were so anxious to see all the other parks. The only others I would had done at that park would had been Rockin Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror, but DH wouldnt step foot in those little scared. So we stopped by Sids souviners as usual and left on the boat to go to Epcot. On our way over to Epcot we noticed they were dropping off at the Boardwalk, which we needed to stop by at some point during this vacation so that my DH could collect his beer pilsner at ESPN Zone as he does on all his travels. Since ESPN didnt open for a while we walked around and called home to family to bragg about being in WDW and still having three days left to enjoy it! We are so mean. Plus we had to check on our puppy dogs who are like our children. I walked over to the sweets shop and bought my dad some saltwater taffy, even though he had just bought a huge box of it at the Texas State Fair the day before as he does every year. When ESPN zone finally opened up we got the pilsner and a shot glass for my brother-in-law who collects shot glasses and walked over to Epcot International Gateway. I had never came into Epcot from this direction so it was a nice change. We strolled over towards Canada and went through all the shops along the way and finally made our way to Le Cellier and decided to eat here for lunch. We were seated right away and I knew exactly what I wanted to order. Last time we came in May 2000 I ordered the cheese soup and a Caesar salad and it was wonderful, so I ordered it again. Since this was DHs first time here I recommended the steak sandwich since my dad loved it last time. So he got that and said it was okay. We definitely loved the breads there. I loved the cheese soup so much that the waitress let me have a copy of the recipe! I really liked our waitress, Carmen, she was full of interesting information about Canada that surprisingly enough my super smart DH didnt already know. While we were sitting there another family was seated close to us and the waitress was introducing herself and wished the 8 year old happy birthday and then asked the younger sister how old she was and she exclaimed, Im still four in a very pouty voice, it was really cute. So we finally decide to head into future world and walk by Test Track which DH had heard about and was eager to try out, but it was a long line so we promised to come back to it. We did stop by and do Spaceship earth it is an absolute must do! Then we left Epcot by monorail and headed over to MK for a little while. We first go into MK and I was so excited I was finally here. DH had tons of photos he was trying to get done and as we walked in we see Mickey and Minnie coming right at us from behind the scenes. We were lucky enough to get a good photo of them. We headed down Main Street and went in and out of the shops and came to the watch shop. I knew that I was going to buy myself a watch here because I havent had a working watch in over 6 months now and I just wanted to wait till WDW and buy a cool one here. The best purchase I made on this trip was this watch that I bought at the watch store off of Main Street. I got the watch that is silver and gold and has a black face with 100th written in gold and had the little colorful Mickey painting the 100th, just like on all the 100th memorabilia you see. On the back of it, it states, Made exclusively for the 100th Years of Magic (with Mickey painting again), The Walt Disney World Theme Parks and Resorts. It also has number 1562 of 2000. According to the paperwork that went with this watch, this is a limited edition of 2000 and I actually had part of it! Just today I found out that another cool feature of this watch is that the hands on it glow in the dark. You dont even see the strip of the glow in the dark stuff when looking at it, but in the dark you can still see the time. Im truly happy with this purchase. My husband thought $100 was a little ridiculous to spend on this watch when I first asked him what he thought and then the CM brought out the box it comes in and we both loved it so much we decided it was definitely worth the money! It is a gorgeous black box with glass top and a mirror under the glass that states the 100th logo and the colorful Mickey painting. Its like a jewelry box I can use for something that opens up. I love it! Anyways, enough about the watch other than to say that we had it sent to GF since we knew we would be there tomorrow to pick it up. We decided to go to the left of the Castle since it was blocked off by the show they were performing. We ended up right by the Hall of Presidents and tried to go in but the wait was 30 minutes and decided that was too long. We later found that to be a mistake as we never got to see the Hall of Presidents. So we head back out and go towards Adventureland and I had to go to the Dole Whip Stand and got some pineapple juice and a sprite. I was really thirsty and drank them both. We then headed on to the Pirates of the Carribean. As we were on this ride, my 100th pins were lighting up and going crazy it was fun. While we were in line we noticed the girl in front of us who had a ton of pins on her lanyard, so DH and I asked her about her pins and started a conversation with her and her mother. (At some point in here we rode Snow White.) We then hopped on the train over to tomorrowland and tried to get on the Peoplemover/TTA and it was closed already for the day, so we walked over to Buzz. This was a first for DH and he loved it and beat me on the score. After we left here we were trying to decide what to do next and decided to do the Tea Cups, so we walked over and started to wait in the long line and then decided that we needed to decide what to do for dinner that night since we had PS at Chef Mickeys for 9pm and also a PS at California Grill for 9:45pm. I really wanted to be at California during fireworks, but then decided we could just do Chef Mickeys if we skipped the fireworks. So either way we needed to get moving out of the park in time to get over to there. So we left and took the monorail over to the Contemporary and waited on the couches on the main concourse trying to decide what to do. We finally decide we should go up to the California and see if they would let us in or maybe we could view while waiting. It was packed up there. We waited in the bar area for a while and could see the beautiful castle changing colors from there and at this point I was wishing I was in my room at the GF so that I could see the castle from my own balcony. We waited a while in the bar area while staking out some good viewing spots if anyone in the bar area were to leave suddenly. After about 10 minutes we decided we were about to fall asleep due to our lack of sleep, so we went back on the monorail to the MK to wait for a bus to take us back to the resort. The bus was packed full and since we were first in line to get on we got great seats at the front of bus. As more people loaded on we had people standing up and when DH noticed an elder woman standing he offered his seat to her. During the bus ride we could see some fireworks going off at Epcot. We finally make it over to CSR and decide to get off at the main building since we were hungry and wanted to eat at the Pepper Market. We didnt know how it worked in here and no one explained it to us, so we were just seated at a table and just sat there waiting on someone to come take our orders. Then a waiter finally shows up and asks us what we wanted to drink and then explained how we needed to take the forms on the tables to whatever different food stations we wanted and have the servers at the different stations fill those out for us, then we pay as we exit the Pepper Market. DH went over to the Pizza and Salad station and got the greasy disgusting pizza and a Caesar salad for us to share. I headed for the fajita stand and got the fajita plate, which was absolutely wonderful. When going back to this station to get sour cream and hot sauce and the chef said you cant take that and I looked at him puzzled and he said just kidding. This became a norm with the cast members we ran into You cant do that just kidding. By the end of the trip we started to finish their sentences and it wasnt funny anymore. DHs pizza was disgusting so he took it back and they scratched it out on his ticket. We shared our meals, well basically DH shared his with me and I ate all of mine. As we checked out we asked if we could use the Disney club card and we were told no and we later learned it wouldnt be of much help on this trip. Full and happy we headed back to the front desk to ask about checking out quickly in the morning so that we can hurry up and get over to GF. A nice man helped us whos Name tag had Lion King on it as his favorite WDW memory. This was a new thing I noticed that was different from the last time I came in 2000, was that all the cast members I saw had a ride, movie or park written under their names, instead of where they were from so that you knew what they liked most. This cast member had Lion King and what was so funny is that he sounded identical to Mufasa (James Earl Jones). He said he gets that a lot. He told us about our speedy check out and we headed back to the room to pack up.
Up Next, Stay Tuned: Will Wendy have the best birthday of her life at age 27? Will DH surprise Wendy with a birthday treat? Most importantly, will they get the room they requested at the Grand Floridian? Will they make it through the whole night at MNSSHP? Will Wendy finally get to use her Disney club card?
