I've gotten the approval of two teachers to postpone homework for the kids until after we get home from WDW so I can keep it a secret. If it all works out my kids (DD12 and DS11) will not know we are going to Disney UNTIL we get to the airport. Where my mom and I plan on pulling out Mickey ears and putting them on while handing the kids their luggage tags for ME.

I have a meeting with another teacher this afternoon and still waiting to hear from another.

Yes, I am going for the Mother of the Year award :rotfl2:

If I pull this off, I will be VERY proud of myself. Cross your fingers for me.

Congrats on the surprise trip! We surprised our kids with a trip to Disneyland in March. They knew we were going to CA, but had no idea where in CA we were going. We told them it was a work trip for DH.

But, I have to ask- why no homework?

That is very cool! My mom did that one time. She e-mailed all my teachers and evidently when I left the room one morning during homeroom, my homeroom teacher told everyone. I was friends with most of the people in there and none of them are too good at keeping secrets (they all have VERY BIG mouths), so its a miracle that my mom pulled it off. My teacher was the worst and she almost blew it that morning. What made it even worse was that a guy in that class was going on a cruise the week after I did, so we would be talking about it and she said it was very hard to not say anything to me. Me and my brother didn't find out that we were going until we got to the airport and saw my dad sitting there with the luggage (my mom works there so she told us that she had to stop by her office). Of course my mom isn't as cool as you, she stopped and picked up our homework from school before you left and when she told us we were going to Disney and on a cruise, she said O, BTW, here is you homework. Gee, thanks mom. I don't think we ever did it anyways. Anyways, good luck and have fun! My mom did this twice when I was in middle school and she never had a teacher give her any problems with it.

Oh there will be homework and probably lots for my middle school DD. But I want to postpone it until we get home so the kids don't find out we're going.

The toughest teacher has yet to get back to me...so I'm hoping he plays along!

I'm hoping once I get their approval they will just forget about it until we leave. The day before we leave is an inservice day so no school for the kids but the teachers will be there and I'll pick up homework that day. What they can get done on the plane, fine but I'm NOT having them do homework while we're there...way too busy for that!! :rotfl:

Obviously, you're the mom and can do what you want and this is in no way meant to be critical. But if I was the middle schooler, I would want to get as much homework done before the trip rather than it looming over my head while there. Especially since there's no school the day before leaving. Think of how much work could get done that day (well maybe :teeth: ). Of course, this is also coming from someone who doesn't really like surprises. But you could still surprise your middle schooler a few days before so she could get some work done. Have a great trip! :wave2:

I would guess the actual trip anywhere is a surprise and if the teachers hand them a pile of homework to do for the days they will be away...then the surprise is spoiled somewhat.

Good luck with keeping the surprise! We are going in October and we are trying to keep it a surprise from the kids (DS8, DS6, DD4). Our flight is at 2 pm so I plan on having them go to school (except the little one) and pick them up early with a "Hey, we're going to Disney World!" I am giddy with excitement!!!

I plan on letting the teachers know it's a secret and asking for a packet of homework for them which I will pick up ahead of time from the school. In the past, we had the teachers give us homework and my DS did most of it on the plane or when we got back.

Let us know how the surprise goes!!!!!!!! ;)

I did this when DD was in 5th grade. DH was away with his brother. I picked DD up at school around 10am. She thought something was wrong since I didn't tell her I she was going anywhere. We get to the car and I tell her we are going to WDW! She didn't believe me until I showed her the suitcase. We drove down and as we were going through Jax she said ' I think I'm dreaming!'. We ended up having a great mother/daughter mini trip.

OP-- good luck on keeping your a secret!

I have been thinking about surprising my kids for our trip in 2008. (I know long time but you need something to look forward to.) Ever since we gotten back that is all they want to do is go back to disney. dd6 says that she wants to go to disney because there she does not have to do anything like go to school, clean her room, go to camp. :rotfl:

One more teacher down. She thought it was a great idea and fully supports me. She will work with my DD when we get home to catch her up EVEN volunteered to stay evenings to help her. Have I said lately how much I LOVE our school?

What if the OP secretly gets the work from the teacher? I agree, a middle schooler will have way too much to catch up on if it all comes after the trip. If one of the parents can get the work ahead of time, at least the kid can do some while there.

To the OP, good luck with the surprise! We surprised our kids with the Disney Cruise last year, and it was one of the most memorable moments of my life! :thumbsup2

Thinking about what some of you are saying....I wonder if I can get a package together and just tell the kids it is work that needed to be done on their day off? They can work on it the day before we leave since it's a day off. I'll see what the teachers will do!! Thanks everyone!!

Now if you could just come up with matching costumes for all of us...we're going to MNSSHP! Oh and I've signed us up for the Family Magical Tour too!

Okay, my first ones wouldn't work as I didn't notice who in the family was going.

How about, Wendy, Princess Tiger Lily, Tinkerbell and Peter Pan?

OR, three princesses and a handsome prince?

OR, Big Bad Wolf and 3 Little Pigs?..........that's pretty cute, but you'll want to stay together or folks won't get it and you'll just be a piggy.

OR, Tigger, Pooh, Eeyore and Piglet/Rabbit?

How fun! I'm jealous, no one has ever surprised me with a trip to WDW!
