Two Hour Extreme Home Makeover

I work just a few blocks from the makeover house shown last night. Rumor has it that the city would not let them expand the house (other than the porch area) so the show made optimal use of the space given (I wish my basement looked so good).

We walked over to see what was happening a couple of times during the week. We saw them moving in the furniture and on day seven we saw the crew filming Lance on his swing. He was having a great time swinging high up in the air as I hope you could tell from the show closing.

What a wonderful thing to do for a very deserving family!

PS. the tiny little restaurant where Ty got the patty melt serves the best burgers and fries!!

What an Great Show last night. I was crying my eyes out when she showed them the house.
Steven is such and rock for that family. I am so glad he will get the chance to go to college and get a great start in his life. Because you know whatever he does he will take care of his family in the end.

I was hoping I'd see a thread on this today. What an awsome, amazing show and Stefan is just incredible! This was the very best show they've done and just thinking about it makes me teary eyes...this is the first time I've ever seen DH cry over a show or movie...we were watching in separate rooms for some odd reason, and after it was over, he came into my room and grabbed a kleenex and with red eyes, said "wow, emotional show!" LOL!

I really don't think they "needed" to expand the size of the house. I could tell that the lots were tiny. I was wondering how the neighbor liked the dirt pushed right up against his house! Guess he was a good sport or paid off. ;)

I think the size of the house was really perfect for this family. They have lovely common areas and each has his/her own personal space.

Yes, it is true that the city would not let them build up to make a second story and the lot was not big enough to go out, but luckily they had the basement to work with and the focus quickly bacame to make the house geared toward safety rather than impressive size.

I haven't seen Larry and Judy in years but I do know that they are such kind, gentle people. I hadn't seen Stephan since he was 3 or Lance since he was a baby, but I too am just in AWE of Stephan's maturity. He is SO deserving of the college scholarship and the whole family is so deserving of all of this. :)

Every week this show gets better and better. It is so unlike most of the crappy reality shows on TV today. This is all about making a deserving family's dreams come true (not pretending to fall in love with some man you just met and beating out 10 other girls for a chance at getting engaged  ). I was crying all through this episode. I loved the story line behind the place they sent the family on vacation. That the mom and dad had eaten dinner there as their "honeymoon" years before because they couldn't ever afford to stay there. And who didn't think that Stefan was the most amazing young man? All that responsibility at such a young age. Go ABC for actually having meaningful programming....now wifeswap...that is a different story ;)

I love so many shows on ABC this season, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Extreme Home Makeover and Boston Legal!

Kimberle: Yep, the house was perfect for the family. The extreme makeover shows I've seen before expanded the houses they were working on. It certainly wasn't necessary in this case. Instead of expanding the area they expanded the comfort level for the family by leaps and bounds--monitors, alarms, open spaces.

I heard a crew person talking to the lady across the street (it was her front yard that most of the "welcome home" crowd was standing in) and the show was going to take care of putting her yard back in shape. They probably did the same for the house next door.

Since there wasn't much outside work, it was amazing to see on the show all that they did inside. I have seen the new fence and front landscaping up close when walking at lunch time but I was amazed at all they accomplished inside.

Again, what a wonderful deserving family!

I watched the show with my roomate last night and we both were in tears the entire episode. This show makes me realize just how lucky I really am, and to appreciate the life that I have.

This show was a requirement for our class (hubby & I) we are taking ASL. Our teacher is Deaf and so is her Husband & Daughter (they were all born Deaf). She asked us to watch the show & see if we noticed any of the Values in the Deaf Community.

There are so many things that the Deaf community Value. If you asked a Deaf individual if they would rather lose their eye sight or their hands . . . the answer is their Hands. The reason for this is because you can always get mechanical hands and use computer software to be able to communicate. Without eyes, a Deaf person can not commuicate because they wouldn't be able to "Hear" the conversation. You saw how they communicated with their son Lance (signing in his hand).

If you have a chance to take a class in ASL, please do. There is a whole world that is in your community that you aren't aware of. The Deaf community is a great, wonderful, loving, inviting community.

Also, I taped Good morning america and I'm watching the followup on the Extreme Makeover.

Thanks everyone

Tifany

When it was nearing the end and they were reading the letter from the family after discussing the size of the swing, I completely lost it. When they showed the carpenter who was building Lance's swing with tears in his eyes, and he said "I should have made the swing bigger," my heart completely melted. What an amazing and deserving family.

I watched most of the show with tears in my eyes but I started sobbing when one the Team members was holding Lance up by his swing so he could ring the windchimes. Lance just had an expression of pure joy on his face.

I cried and cried too....very deserving family.

It was an amazing show last night. I too really liked seeing the crew member holding Lance up to ring the wind chime, and I am so glad Stephan got that scholarship. He's such an amazing person, and what a dedicated brother.
I watched the follow up on Good Morning America today (was home to go for a root canal, which is the only reason I saw it), and that family is just amazing.
I love this show, it's one of the few decent ones left on tv.
