Two Germans Dine Deluxe Again ... (FINISHED!)

Our lunch at Yak & Yeti.....

The Malaysian Seafood Curry with Mahi Mahi, scallops, little neck clams, mussels, shrimp, zucchini, roma tomatoes, red curry coconut broth, and jasmine rice.
A wonderful choice! Tasty and plentiful, with lots of nice seafood. (The only remotely bad thing I can say about it is that I would have liked it even spicier, but I realize that they have to cater to a broad range of tastes and cannot be as adventurous as I would like them to be).

Fried Wontons: Skewers of fresh Pineapple and Cream Cheese Wontons with fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream and honey vanilla drizzle.
Honestly, the person who came up with this combination has me eternally grateful. There is absolutely nothing that she or he could have done better. The fresh fruit, the restrained sweetness, the cool ice cream and the totally comfort-foody fried dough … Just wonderful.
...[/I]

We love Yak and Yeti too. The Malaysian Seafood Curry was awesome. When ordering, I went on and on about how I love red curry and I was promised they would make it extra spicy! They delivered on the promise. The fried wontons dessert is the best dessert in Disney.

I like Yak and Yeti so much... I'm tempted to split up our Animal Kingdom time between 2 days and get park hoppers... just to eat there twice during our next trip!

yaaaaaay!! you're back! great start to this report, my mouth is watering! looking forward to reading more! popcorn:: :) popcorn::

you're reviews are fantastic so far ! I can't wait to read more !! You went to so many restaurants that we're thinking about going to for our next trip.... after this, we might have to go longer than 8 days!

Hi everybody,

just a quick hello to say that we are back from a wonderful Mediterranean cruise on the Disney Magic (with lots of great food, too)!

It will probably take me another day or couple of days to get unpacked, do the laundry and all these nice things that always await you at the end of a holiday :sad2: - but then I will be back with more food reports!

So, see you real soon :cheer2:

Great news!!! Have a wonderful trip!

Jill in CO

We did, it was truly wonderful. Actually, it still is hard to get settled back in the real world, as we so much wish we were back on the ship :lovestruc ...

:banana::banana: Have a great trip!

And I hope you did not eat any poisonous cucumbers!! Stay healthy!! :goodvibes

Yes, isn't that horrible about the cucumbers, tomatoes and beansprouts?? I am so glad that all that is finally starting to die down! Probably was the best thing we could have done to be away from Northern Germany during the worst phases ...

Thank you! I'm not a huge eater but I know my husband certainly can be. I'm really looking forward to the macadamia nut pancakes and the press pot! Glad to hear you liked it! I'll let you know how I felt about it when we get back. :) Have a great cruise!

I hope you have had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed all your Disney meals! Let me know what you thought of Kona!

I've been catching up on your reviews as we are just back from a wonderful vacation and Jiko was a real highlight
Great food and superb service
Looking forward to reading more of your reviews

Next review will be up in a minute! :surfweb:

Your dining review is great so far! Your writing is very entertaining :goodvibes

That curry at the Yak and Yeti looks amazing. For our upcoming honeymoon we decided that for dinner on our Animal Kingdom day we wanted to eat in DTD instead, since none of the restaurants really struck us. However, if I had seen your pictures before I had to make my reservations in March I may have just changed my mind! Next time... see, I have not even been on my upcoming trip and I am already planning for the next one ;)

I can absolutely relate to that - there is nothing like simultaneously planning several Disney trips (even though if DH calls me crazy) :thumbsup2

That sounds like a great idea, next time I will just order it "extra spicy" as well and see what I get! If I start going red in the face and yapping for air, at least the server will have some fun ;)

Great reviews. We liked Yak and Yeti also. Can't wait for the rest.

Thank you! One coming up now, and there will definitely be another one this weekend.

Well, 8 days means you will be able to fit in about 20 restaurants of you are on the Deluxe Dining Plan as we were, that's not too bad :rolleyes1

great reviews so far, can't wait to read the rest

Here you go - Kona Cafe! :cheer2:

The following morning saw us at breakfast here:

P1050291.jpg

… at Kona Café in the Polynesian Resort, at the rather ungodly hour of 7.30 am.

Not surprisingly, this meant that DH was still half-asleep for most of the meal. :thumbsup2

P1050288-1.jpg

(The complete picture of him half-asleep is so very much cuter but as he will probably make my life miserable for a long long time if I post that on the internet, this will have to suffice .)

We had that delicious brew, the "100% Kona Coffee French Press Pot", to wake us up a little bit (worked for me, at least! ;)). Really, that is so much better and tastier than the usual weak coffee you get at most Disney restaurants, and I highly recommend it to all you coffee-lovers out there. Actually, it was even too strong for me so I needed lots of milk, but that's only because I'm a bit of a wimp (or a "soft egg", as we Germans call it :)). DH, on the other hand, loved it.

For breakfast, we both decided on the same dish we had already enjoyed the previous year:

P1050290.jpg

The Big Kahuna – which to us is a very typically and yummily American combination of sweet and savoury with no calorie-counting unless you want severe depressions: French toast, Macadamia-Pineapple pancakes, eggs, home fried potatoes, ham, bacon, and sausage. Mmmmh!!

At one point, however, I clumsily managed to knock over my almost-full cup of Kona coffee and bathe the table in it, with our waitress nowhere to be seen :confused3.
Using up all of the available napkins, we tried to stem the flood a little bit. A while later, our server passed our table and I apologized and told her that I had knocked over a cup of coffee. She assured me that was no problem and left before I could even ask for more napkins – clearly she had underestimated the problem :thumbsup2.
When she returned to clear our plates, she lifted them up and was quite surprised to find a coffee lake underneath, while I could only smile apologetically and weakly say "I told you so" :upsidedow.

Incidentally, I have since read another Kona dining review which expressed the opinion that there must be a Bermuda Triangle there which tends to make servers disappear. Maybe that's where she was on the way to when I tried to tell her about the coffee incident … ;).

Anyway, we really enjoyed our breakfast and felt well-nourished for our long day at Universal Studios. Which will be part of this report in the upcoming sequel:

Coming up next: Lunch at Lombard's Seafood Grille (Universal Studios) …

Yay another update :cool1:

Thanks for the Kona Cafe review, I am literally having sleepless nights about what to order in October ; Tonga Toast or Macadamia Nut Pancakes :confused3

My whole trip could depend upon it

Yay, a Kona breakfast review! I've never been there before, but we have an ADR for breakfast there in November. Very excited! Love your reviews, thank you so much! :cool1:

The food at Kona looks good! Too bad about your server though, she seemed rather inattentive. I went out to eat at a restaurant the other night and my FMIL spilled a little coffee. It wasn't much, but we didn't have any napkins, so when the waiter came over we asked for some... and he absolutely insisted that he clean it himself, saying "no, no, this is my job, this is what they pay me the little bucks for" :rotfl:

We loved Kona Cafe brekkie too - but our server disappeared into the Kona/Bermuda triangle also - we were waiting for at least 30 minutes, after we finished eating, for her to bring our check :sad2:

Loving your reviews :thumbsup2

I know what you mean, these things are never to be taken lightly :thumbsup2. Personally, I would probably go with the Pancakes. I haven't tried the Tonga Toast before, and I had read so much about here on the Disboards that I originally was totally enthusiastic about trying it. Then I saw it on the plate of a fellow at the table next to mine, though, and it just looked too much. Too sweet, too heavy. I was just worried that it might actually give me stomach cramps, so I chickened out. :rolleyes1

I love your reviews, I definitely need to try that breakfast!

Thank you - yes, by all means do, I think it is my favorite breakfast dish in all of WDW.

Have fun on your November trip and enjoy your Kona breakfast! Just be aware of that server-Bermuda-Kona Triangle, though. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to the rest of your reviews!!!

The next one, though strictly speaking not a Disney dining review, coming up in a minute!

The food at Kona looks good! Too bad about your server though, she seemed rather inattentive. I went out to eat at a restaurant the other night and my FMIL spilled a little coffee. I think we were just really good at camouflaging the damage in our first try, so when I spoke to her about it and she saw nothing, she must have thought I was exaggerating (only until she found out what was hidden under the plates and cups ;)).

We loved Kona Cafe brekkie too - but our server disappeared into the Kona/Bermuda triangle also - we were waiting for at least 30 minutes, after we finished eating, for her to bring our check :sad2:

Loving your reviews :thumbsup2

Ha, I knew the Triangle really existed! I wonder why I never heard about it before, this must be some kind of global cover-up going on ;):rotfl2:

Today was our first ever visit to Universal Studios (actually I just almost typed "Disney's Universal Studios", so this is how thoroughly disneyfied I am :thumbsup2), and we had not planned anything specific for lunch – we were just going to grab a bite anywhere once we felt like it.

After a very enjoyable morning at the Studios, lunchtime came and we found ourselves here:

P1050365.jpg

Lombard's Landing Seafood Grille, a lovely restaurant by the waterfront. (I think they also had outdoor seating available, but it was too hot to try that on this beautiful sunny day.)

P1050366.jpg

Apparently, this is the best restaurant at Universal Studios, but we didn't know that at the time so it was just pure dumb luck that we ended up here :).

We went in and I explained to the lady at the podium that we did not have any advance reservations and hoped they could accommodate us anyway, but she just looked at me in a slightly amused way and said we did not need those there. Well, Toto, I guess we're not in Disney anymore … :rotfl2:

The restaurant was really nice, if a bit on the cool side with too much air-condition, and we were sat between a window and a little fish tank. Very comfy.

Now sadly I have not been able to find a menu for Lombard's anywhere on the internet so I cannot tell you what exactly we had, but I do not remember the menu being especially strong on seafood, so I was a bit surprised upon finding out that it was called "Lombard's Landing Seafood Grille". So anyway, they might have had the seafood but there was enough else on offer as well.

P1050360.jpg

We shared an appetizer of black, normal-coloured and red nachos with an artichoke and spinach dip, which were served on a newspaper fish 'n' chips-style:

P1050361.jpg

The dip was very nice, but the chips were a bit bland, even the colored ones, and we were also a bit nervous about what they might have used to give them their bright colors. We tried to convince ourselves that it was just vegetables and no artificial colors involved, but we rather did not think about it too long ;).

This was my main course:

P1050363.jpg

A Steak and Blue Cheese Salad, for which I had wisely ordered the blue cheese on the side so I could just graze from that a little bit and leave most of it.
(This is one thing I have learned during our prior visit to WDW: A lot of the food may be very mild in flavor and seasoning, but it is okay to heap wagonloads of absolutely ferocious-tasting blue cheese on top of many dishes since most Americans seem to love it so much. Alas, not me. Far too strong for my liking, unless administered in very small therapeutical doses. :thumbsup2)

Meanwhile, DH had this Chicken Caesar Salad:

P1050364.jpg

He enjoyed it even though it was nothing overly special, but then again, a nice caesar salad is perfectly okay even i fit does not try to be special.

Oh and by the way, as you can glimpse in the corner of the picture above, we both had banana shakes to go with our meals – very yummy.

For desserts, we just had cappuccinos as we were really not hungry anymore. It was very enjoyable for a change to not be on the dining plan and just split an appetizer, have entrees and skip desserts! :)

We then happily ventured back out into the joys of Universal Studios (or rather straight into the jaws of, well, "Jaws":upsidedow.) It was a very nice day and we will definitely be back to this park on our next visit – and probably also to this restaurant.

Coming up next: Our favorite dinner … at California Grill!

The dark chips are Blue Corn Tortilla Chips. They are made with blue corn. I am not sure about color additives, it depends on the brand. The ones we buy are organic and have no additives. Just blue corn. I have never seen red ones. :confused3

Love your reviews!!
Terri

Looks like a nice meal! I haven't eaten anywhere in Universal, except for CityWalk. And by the way, I'm totally with you on the bleu cheese - I really don't like it, the taste is very strong, and they put so much of it on food!!

Great review of somewhere different!:thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear about your experience at California Grill....:)

just chiming in again to say how much I am enjoying your reviews and really looking forward to your California Grill review - it is our favorite place at Disney :thumbsup2
