My super cheapo GE dishwasher has died after three years. I'd love to upgrade to a new two drawer dishwasher and my appliance guy has a 3 year old Fisher Paykel that he refurbed for $300 installed with a one year warranty on parts and labor.

He says the Fisher Paykel is built with quality parts and can be repaired to last for 20 years.

I checked online and a similar washer goes for much more.

Before I take the leap, I wanted to run it by all of you.

Do you like your two drawer dishasher? What brand is it and how long have you had it?

I can replace the GE with a brand new, cheapie GE for $300.

What would you do?

My appliance repair guy is great! I have used hom several times over the last 3 years and have been thrilled with his work. He also made te statement that he has to treat me right or I will go eslewhere for future work. LOL:lmao:

I have a 2 drawer Fisher & Paykel that we bought 4 years ago. I love it! We have had no service calls for it and it gets used daily. I love being able to run the top or bottom independantly as it fills up.

I have a one drawer new dishwasher, it is a Samsung so it matches the refrigerator, pretty much. It is SO quiet, which is nice because the kitchen is open to the family room/TV.

I waited and bought it during a free installation week. This avoided the stress of having DH try to install it.

I've never understood the idea behind a two drawer dishwasher over the traditional kind. What's the attraction to them? My basic one will likely get replaced when we redo the kitchen in a few years so if there is something super useful about a two drawer, I'll add that to my "things I need to research for the kitchen remodel" list. :)

My mom has the two drawer Fisher Paykel and hates it! She says it doesn't get her dishes clean.

I just have the tradional kind of dishwasher, but I would think the advantage would be that you can run smaller loads?? I know there are lots of time mine is only half full but I want to run it but I hold off for water/energy conservation.

Don't know anything about a two drawer, or the brand you are looking at, so I am no help there. I can tell you that I will never, NEVER waste my money on another GE diswasher....did I mention NEVER??? I LOVE my Bosch!

I would take the refurb. I blow through dishwashers almost as fast as I do laptops:rotfl:. I'd jump on that deal...especially with installation included in that price! When I priced out the 2 drawers a few years back they were big $. Sounds like a bargain and it sounds like you trust the guy. It's a good opportunity to try out the 2 drawer even if you don't get 20 years out of it. I am guessing it will last at least as long as the cheapie GE would.

If you don't go with the refurb, I'd take this advice. I've heard a lot of good reports on Bosch dishwashers.
My 1st GE dishwasher leaked into my basement and then died within 3yrs. My GE oven is currently coming on even when knob is "off":scared1:

My MIL has one and although it's a cool idea, she doesn't love it and neither do I. I can never figure out how to load the thing. The setup of the inside is just weird and doesn't seem to hold many dishes compared to a standard dishwasher. Also, she says it doesn't get the dishes clean enough.
