Two Disneyworld Addicts Explore Disneyland and So Cal A Oct09 Pre Trip Report

Thanks for the link! I just ordered myself one, can't wait until it gets here! DH is going to kill me after all the things I've already ordered for this trip, and it's still 7 months away!

That gives you plenty of more time to save.:goodvibes

Let me know how the passporter goes! I'm trying to decide what book to buy too! I really liked the Unofficial Guide when we went to WDW, so I might try that again. I'm waiting though, patiently...ish.

Are the beignets at the Jazz Kitchen the Mickey beignets I've been seeing? If so I'm definetly trying those! Thanks for all the great tips, I'm definetly taking notes![/QUOTE]

No, the Mickey ones are at Cafe Orleans...they're great, don't get me wrong.
However, the beignets at the Jazz Kitchen blow those out of the water, imo. They're very different, but the ones at the Jazz Kitchen are made the same way they make them at Cafe DuMonde.

Or to spend. ;)

Haha I will report back, I am so impatient waiting for the book, never mind the trip. Lol

DH loves beignets(he's had the ones at WDW) so we will definetly have to give these a try. Mmmmm I love Disney food. popcorn::

So I got my passporter on Monday and I'm a little disappointed with it. It's the newest edition and it badly needs to be updated. They are still listing things such as The Disney Gallery, The Jolly Trolley and Back to the Future at Universal. So this book would be alot more helpful if it was up to date on its information.

Oh no im sorry to hear you were disapointed with it, im kinda glad i didnt bother ordering one now.

Oh no I am so sorry. I figured that they would have an up to date version of the book. Mine is outdated but I have also had it for two years. I know that they are supposed to do a new Disneyworld one every year so I guess I thought that they would do that with the Disneyland one.

Hey There! We're going to be at DLR at the same time :woohoo: I already have a PTR going too, so don't feel bad about starting one so early ;) As far as hotels, the ones on harbor right across the street from the entrance are pretty cheap and clean, if a bit worn around the edges from all the traffic through them.

We were originally going to stay at the Carousel Inn and Suites (still need to cancel our rese there) before we made things work to finally stay at the Disneyland Resort. Last trip we stayed at the Best Western Park Place and it was clean and reasonably comfy.

I'm jealous that you already have a basic itinerary together - lol Overplanners unite! Cute pups btw, we're leaving behind two little furry ones ourselves. But much better to leave them with someone than to take them down and then lock them away in a strange place all day.

I look forward to reading more - have a great evening!

I love the corkboard idea for displaying your pins..... I have mine in a fancy pin holder bag thingy..... But you can only see them if you open it up & look inside!

Yeah I don't understand, the one they sent me is from 2006. I wrote them an email telling them about how disappointed I was that the book wasn't more up to date. Hopefully I hear back.

Oh yay we should be at the same hotel! Maybe we will see you there. I think that we've decided to stay with my aunt the first night we are in Cali. That way we can save some money.

I'm pretty excited that I've got my intinerary together, I was going crazy for a while there not knowing what we would be doing day to day! :)

Thanks, I'm obsessed with the corkboard lol. I just bought like 30 more pins to add to it so it doesn't look so empty. I bought all of the Vinylmation pins, I love them!

So, DH and I have been house hunting lately and we are planning on buying by October! We are so excited! We're trying to save every penny but still plan to go to DIsneyland. In an attempt to save even more money we are thinking about selling our DVC points used to book at the DLH and then use the money to stay at HoJo for the week. If we do this we will save about $1200! Plus I don't think that we will be all the disappointed with HoJo. Right?

I don't think so and look at it this way, you can stay at DLH next time. From what I hear Hojo's is nice motel.

Too bad about the passporter... I will go for the Unofficial Guide then :) I'll let you know if it's good. Maybe PPorter will give you your money back if you're dissatisfied?

Congrats on the plans to buy a house, that's always exciting. I bet you houses are nice and cheap over there too :( Victoria is the 2nd most expensive place in Canada to buy real estate. So we have a one bedroom condo. But we love it and will stay here til we have to move so we can afford to travel  And we're still planning on staying at the HOJO!

We moved our trip up a few months to June too, because although Sept is a great time to travel, we want it to feel like a real honeymoon. So we're also in saving mode.

Signing on! Can't wait to hear about all your planning.

I would save the $1200 and stay HoJo. You'll get the feel of the resorts by going to dinner there and walking around. We have never stayed at the hotels because we live so close, but we always take time to go to the hotels and walk around.

BTW - in regards to your itinerary, just be aware not to make the drive to Los Angeles from Anaheim (and back for that matter) anytime between 7am - 9am and then from 4pm - 7pm. You can get stuck in horrific traffic.

Also, you can combine a lot of the Los Angeles things into one day or two days. In terms of malls, I would recommend going to The Grove. It's an outdoor mall that's connected to the LA Farmer's market. Lots of good food there.

Congratulations on the plans to buy a house, hope you find something you really love :)

I'd deffo stay in the Hojo if i was going to save $1200 :)

So we've tried to sell the points, however no takers. Ahh oh well, I know we will enjoy the DLH. Our trip is 6 months from tomorrow! It seems so far away though. I wish there was some planning that I could do, but I don't feel like theres anything to plan yet. I have however bought a coach sling bag for the trip and a few new shirts and shorts. Still looking for some more cute things.

hi, I have been enjoying this thread and hoping you can tell me what Sonic? is on the first post? We are from Australia and love eating everywhere in the US and have a huge list of where to eat including In'N Out which we had last time we were there. Just wondering what Sonic is?

I'm in! (says another fall person who wishes there were more to plan RIGHT NOW to pass the time ;))

Signing on! We also want to try to see Chelsea Lately, can't wait to see if you succeed!

Too bad about not being able to sell the points, but there's still some time. And if you stay on property you'll still have all the extra bennies of doing that. Yup, we're both under the 6 month mark now :woohoo:

I'm in the same boat - my PTR has kind of stalled out too. Too far out for reservations/PS stuff, too far out for Disney's calendar to show ride closures, itinerary already kind of set. We need to figure out more stuff to do! :lmao:

At least you have the shopping to fall back on, I'm not much of a shopper :confused3

Keep the magic going! :wizard:

Oh, and Marvel - Sonic is a modern twist on the old style 50s malt shop with covered parking spots each with their own menu and the ability to order and pay (with a credit card) from your spot. Your food is then brought out to you by a server on roller skates :D
