two big surprises from DHS

We went to Hollywood studios 1/3 and 1/8 and I hadn't expected anything special from the meals we would eat on those days at DHS.

I had scheduled a QS for lunch on 1/3. Let everyone choose while over by Rockin and Tower of Terror....well we were starved right after the great movie ride and we were headed toward Muppets so my family said what about in here....cringe ABC commissary....I tried to strir them away and I'm glad they vetoed me. It was really good...not great but decent and I left full. We all had the surf and turf burger...It is a cheesburger on the wheat bun with 3 fried shrimp skewered to the top. It came with piping hot fries and a choice of chocolate mousse or strawberry parfait and a drink. I liked the bun it was like the buns you have on the speciality burgers at applebees or TGI Fridays.

The second surprise was the breakfast we had at Hollywood and Vine on 1/8, I hadn't really cared for the dinner we had there in 2007. I booked this for the characters, my nephew is 17 mnths old. It was so worth it!!!! they sing, they dance, they come by every few minutes to the table. The hosts are also fun and they made my nephew giggle constantly. The meal itself was basic breakfast fare but it was hot and fresh and abundant! Our waitress Aleta was awesome and she took great care of us. My next trip to WDW I won't be so quick to dismiss DHS's food choices!

i second that abc commissary is not terrible. we ate there over our last trip (december) and we had no issues with it, except that dbf was starving and ended up ordering 2 meals.

We had a yucky dinner at Hollywood and Vine in 2008.... a so-so lunch in 2009 (but loved the character dancing and interaction).... and a really decent breakfast there in 2010... and even better dancing and character interaction with Agent Oso and Handy Manny.

It's just great how the cast members and characters dance to Playhouse Disney music. DS5 loved it.

Those designer burgers are new - they were just announced in the last few weeks. You are the first person that I heard of that had one.

I liked the H&V breakfast too. They even had real maple syrup (the chef brought it out), which even Boma didn't have (though Kona did). And I loved the cheesey grits.

Hollywood and Vine was my son favorite place to eat. We had a wonderful Breakfast there last month./

In November we had a good burger at Backlot Express. It was a burger with avacados's. Love avacados.

We had that same burger at Backlot in Dec. and we loved it!! we have also had yummy salads at ABC Commissary. We have never had trouble finding something good to eat at DHS.

Also chiming in that we've had several good experiences at the ABC commissary. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Thanks for the feedback on these two. I haven't eaten at The Commissary in a few years but I was hesitant in H&V but saw during our last trip that they finally changed the line up of some of their characters. I think we are going to give it a try next time!

I was so worried about being in DHS because of the food. (We are trying out the DDP for part of our trip, and this was one of my concerns.)

How was the burger itself? The bun looks great, but the burger any good? I remember reading that the burger was fairly rubbery, etc.

Someone else posted that the salads were good - can you describe them more!?!?

My family ate there and had to take the burgers back cause they were cold and yes they came with shimp on top. Manager no problem gave my sis hot ones.
