We have not dined at San Angel Inn in several years, both times in the past were among our worst meals ever in my book. DH said today that he wanted to fore go 1900 Park Faire in lieu of San Angel for our upcoming trip, thinks that it will give our guest (DDs best friend , first trip) a good memory. I was able to secure a reservation for dinner, but the menus I'm seeing online are two years old. Are they fairly up to date? Have any of you had good meals lately? My main sore points from our prior visits were dried out rice, cold chicken, inattentive servers and no refills whatsoever. TIA

We ate there in Dec and it was the WORST meal that we had. It is not even close to Mexican either here or down south. I would go to 1900. We are going there for our first visit for breakfast. I would think they can't mess up breakfast. Really there are alot of negatives for this place. They all say they go for atmosphere, but a husband who is hungry doesnt want atmoshpere, he wants good food. There were a table of 9 other people next to ours from Texas and all of them left their food as well. We left and got something at our resort. Why steak and mushy steak on a mexican plate???? Well you might want to give it another shot but if you haven't been to 1900, it would be a better choice and safer I would think ha ha . We are going in Dec again this year and I think I have made better choices this time. Boma will be EXCLUDED as well. Not so good.

Fool me once- shame on you.
Fool me twice- shame on me.
Fool me a third time- Nah, eat somewhere else.

Good luck!

Wow, we have never ever had a bad meal at San Angel and have been going for years. It is our daughters favorite place and when she was in her teens and it was her choice to pick the restaurant that was always the one.

One time we had slow service, but that is out of years and years of being a customer there.

We have lived in the south for a long time...to find good authentic mexican food, well, it isn't easy. We also lived in Texas for many years, Texas mostly serves Tex-Mex..so again, not authentic Mexican. Many people think taco bell is real mexican food and that is what they expect at San Angel, again, Taco Bell is not authentic Mexican food.

Now..when I visit my daughter in California...there I can get some authentic Mexican food. We have traveled all over Mexico and we find San Angel as authentic as Disney will let them get...as we all know, even the restaurants in the world showcase aren't fully authentic because Disney thinks they would have too many complaints from the masses.

We've always liked it and appreciated that it's Mexican cuisine, rather than Tex-Mex.

But, we ate there about two weeks ago. I had the tortilla soup, which I've liked previously. It was so thin this time, it was like drinking red water. A friend really liked the shrimp on potatoes, though.

I've definetly had better mexican food. We ate there last week for lunch only because my kids like it. It is a pretty restaurant but I went safe with just a appetizer and had a better meal for dinner- even if it was counter service.
I'm also not a fan of 1900 Park fare.

Since the original poster stated that the two previous times they visited the meals were bad, perhaps it's time to move on to someplace else. Our food experience there was mediocre at best, plus the tables are packed so close together, it wasn't condusive to a pleasant dining atmosphere. YMMV.

Quick question.... is there anything on the menu (too lazy to look right now) for non-mexican-food-eating people?

Well, looks like we'll be keeping SA since by now I'm sure our 1900 ADR is long gone. I'll be happy if my rice isn't dried out like last time :rotfl: This time I'll probably try something with a sauce, i can at least use it to moisten the rice, right? I love 1900 for dinner but given our girls ages (11 & 13 & the 13 YO friend) they would not care that much about the Cinderella experience. I'd like to try Biergarten but given the fact that Stefanie's mom is German I"ll skip it. She'd spend the whole meal saying "that's not how mom fixes it" :lmao: Here's a link to the latest menu I could find:
