Two Aussie first-timers in Disney! Lots of photos! NEW- FINAL CHAPTER! - Ch 20, Pg 30

Now I have this terrible urge to watch Dirty Dancing.....

Oooh, it could never be terrible to watch Dirty Dancing!!

Quick, go now and watch it!!

My favourite line... "I carried a watermelon!?!"

And lately I've been thinking about, "Now remember ladies, he's the boss on the dancefloor, and nowhere else!"

:lmao:

That was hysterical. Thanks for sharing! Now I have this terrible urge to watch Dirty Dancing..... and Footloose :lmao:

Its a clip from a UK comedy series called "Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere" about two ex Doormen who buy a Motorhome and travel around England.:happytv:

Great report!! I cant wait for the next installment. I think your instincts at a bugs life is hysterical because i freaked out too. i wish i would have had insight about when the bees attacked though.lol oh yea the tree ladys name is DeVine and isnt she amazing. i couldnt do that for so long every day!! keep the report comming! thanks

Hey glad you posted, I wont have to get the tomatoes out. I am happy that your day got better. I am really looking forward to going to AK so I hope my day workd out better than yours. Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

And I realise now that I have told you to have a good weekend when you are sick. I am not usually so inconsiderate, I promise. I do hope you are feeling better though.

Just starting your trippie and I am so excited. I just got done reading your entry about the west coast... and being a west coaster myself, I love it! And everything you said about the US is so true, esp. about it being big! I am currently studying abroad in France... and I don't know, it's nice to hear that someone LIKES the United States (don't get much of that here). But yes, everything is bigger. Not always better, but sometimes. ;) I can't wait to read more... so I will end this now and... READ MORE!

We flicked through the tv channels, and met Stacie for the first time. Whoa, boy. She really needs to calm down a little bit.

HEY HOLD UP. Don't hate. Stacie's MY GIRL. Haha, no... I totally noticed her too when I went to Disney for the first time at a resort with my roommate. Stacie was on all the time... I would turn her show on just for the fun of it. My roommate and her parents got sick of it, or just her parents, but we loved Stacie. I had a reunion with her the next time I went to Disney and I was like, "Stacieee! I missed you and your crack head self!!" Stacie has the Disney Magic ALL UP IN HER. (And, I'm guessing, lots of caffeine.) :) Okay, back to your trippieeeeee

Okay, so I just decided to put all of my replies in one post. ;)

So after not expecting to have much fun at MGM, we LOVED it. We had SO much fun! It’s now probably our favourite park in Disney! I know not many people agree with me, but we shall forever love MGM!

MGM is my favorite park too! I'm glad you liked it so much. I love it there. There do need to be some revamps to things, but I like the atmosphere, my two fave rides are there (Tower of Terror and RnR) and I love it. And Fantasmic... my favorite show, too. Can't forget that.

You know what you said about DF laughing on rides? I do that too! I was just thinking about it--Space Mountain, ToT, RnR... I always laugh!

IMG_0503.jpg

That is the coolest picture ever.

Honey, I Shrunk the Audience itself was kinda outdated and silly too. The footage itself is almost a sepia colour, it’s been played so many times. Seriously Kodak, couldn’t you add some more colour?! In fact, thinking about it now, I’d say Honey, I Shrunk the Audience is probably my least favourite Disney activity ever. Huh!

I get you. I also do not like it. I liked it (maybe?) when I was little, but that was like over 10 years ago! They really need to update/replace it. Come on, Disney!

About Mission Space: My mom and I went on it about three years ago, before they had a spinning and non-spinning version and I think it was more intense (I think after it, they lessened the G-forces or something). I have not been on that ride since. I HATED IT. My mom and I felt so sick after it and we ended up getting into an argument that day and separating from each other for a couple of hours. It really ruined our day. I'm glad they have two versions now, but... it still doesn't give me the fondest memories of my life or anything.

And... oh, sadness, it looks like your trippie is over for now. I had a good time reading it and I hope your tonselitis gets better!!! :) Can't wait for the next chapter! (And you will be telling us about the trip after Disney too, right?)

Hey everybody!

Guess what - I've got tonsilitis again! Whaaat!? Sometimes I can go a year without getting it at all, but I had it 4 weeks ago, and now I've got it again! Apparently my tonsils don't like it when I'm busy. They're my body's way of saying, "Slow down!" So I'm back on anti-biotics and back to sleeping a lot and resting my tonsils! Perfect for playing on the DIS boards - not so perfect for teaching! Lucky it's the weekend though - I can relax, and I should be okay by Monday. Silly tonsils! :confused3

lisaj... Why is Spoodles vetoed by your family? That's no good! It really is delicious! I think one day people will start to realise how good it actually is, and it will become the new Le Cellier, or the new Kona Cafe! :thumbsup2

Marion... Ha! I'm so glad the photopass person wasn't there when we were doing the lift! Funny idea though!! Glad you like the photos!!

tashas mum... Hahaa! I watched that YouTube clip! I have no idea who those guys are, but it made me laugh! He really did get those Jennifer Grey moves down perfectly! But don't they know...? "The best place to practice lifts, is in the water." Heee! Thanks for the clip! :lmao:

tazz23... Glad you like the food photos!! And yep, I definitely do need to go back to WDW! I know... how about if you pay, then I can write my report? Yahoo!!! Thanks!! :yay:

Thanks everybody for sticking around! As promised, I'm going to have another chapter up tomorrow! :surfweb:

Vetoed because no Princesses for DD5, no monorail or big bangs for DS9 and DH just wants traditional food. Also wanted to go to San Angel but they won't do Mexican either! Will need to sneak out for Counter service in Mexico one of the days.

Hiya everybody!!

Hope your weekends are all going nicely!! :cool1:

dixie lolly... DeVine!! That's her name! Thankyou!! :thumbsup2 Glad you're still enjoying the report!

QuirkyButterfly... Yay, I'm glad you put those tomatoes away! And don't worry about wishing me a good weekend when I was sick! Ha! I still had a nice, relaxing weekend, and my tonsils are feeling much better! Thankyou!

edaymond... I am feeling a bit better, thankyou!! We have take-away Thai food tonight, and that will make anybody feel better!! :yay:

lamagique... Hi! Thanks for joining my trippie! Nice to know that you agree with me about everything in America being "big"!! And you're right about Stacie - she was endearing in a Disney sort of way, but I wouldn't want her to be my next door neighbour! Lots of people seem to have bad experiences on Mission Space! Yuck! Anyway, thankyou for all your nice comments, and yes, I will continue my report even after we leave Disney! :)

lisaj... Okay, I get why Spoodles is vetoed in your family now. Maybe you could just tell a little fib and pretend there are princesses there. Hehee. And maybe catching the boat is just as exciting as the monorail!? And also, the food at Spoodles was pretty traditional! Just shrimp and steak and pasta! Except the menu has changed now I think, so maybe not... Hehee, maybe just don't listen to me at all! :rolleyes1

The next chapter will be up in just a minute, guys! popcorn::

Chapter 13… Blizzard Beach!

Weeeee! Today was Blizzard Beach day!! :yay: The day DF had been looking forward to our whole trip! He loves waterparks apparently – something I didn’t know until we started planning for our trip to America!

Today was also two other things. It was our last day at Disney World! Boooo! :sad2: We were leaving the next morning, so we had one last day to enjoy at Blizzard Beach. Of course we were sad that our Disney days were almost over – but on the other hand, we’d had a fantastic time, and we still had so many other exciting cities to explore after Disney! Weee! :)

The other thing about that day was that it was September 11 - the five year anniversary. We weren’t too sure how people would react to the day. In Australia, there’s always a homage to it in some way in the media, but most people go about their daily business as normal. But 5 years was a big anniversary, and we were in America. We just weren’t quite sure what the day would bring – we were ready to be quiet and head back to the hotel if that’s what everybody else was doing. We didn’t want to be the nutty Australians with no respect! :confused3

So we arose from our separate bed slumber at around 8.30 that day, and got ready to head to Blizzard Beach. Now, I don’t know if we were noticing it on purpose, but Pop Century was quiet that morning. Normally there are kids running around the balconies screaming, people in the pool laughing, and just general busy noise. But that morning, there was silence. Hmmm. Maybe it was going to be a quiet day after all?

To add more eeriness to the day, CNN (or one of the big news channels) was playing a re-run of the footage they played 5 years ago, at exactly the same time. We watched a little bit of it, but not too much. :guilty: We headed to the bus area at around 9.30, and hopped on the bus to… Blizzard Beach!

We had a lovely bus driver that day, who decided to have a sing-a-long – our first singing session at Disney! I think a lot of people that day were feeling the same as us – not sure how to act, so they were quiet instead. But the bus driver got us all singing along to “It’s a small world” over and over again! Hee! Cute! It seemed to lighten the mood a lot, and everybody seemed to relax straight away – including us! Nice! :wizard:

We arrived at Blizzard Beach right on opening time, at 10am. From the on in, it was action stations! We rented a locker, hired a towel, and got ready to hit the slides!! Oh-oh, but it was steaming hot, and we’d forgotten our sunscreen! So we went back into the Blizzard Beach main store, and bought some really overpriced sunscreen. Spray-on! Weee! We don’t have spray-on sunscreen in Australia! Excitedly, we sprayed it on all over ourselves, and…

AAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1:

Spray-on sunscreen stings!!! I don’t know if it was that particular brand, or just that we’re not used to it, but we both started jumping around like fools as soon as we sprayed it on our faces. (And yes, we both closed our eyes, don’t worry!) It seriously felt like my face was burning off. Yowza!! :headache: We both ran to the nearest tap and scrubbed our faces with water to at least get some of the sunscreen off. It worked a little bit, but for the rest of the day, my face felt puffy and sore! Bad sunscreen, bad!!

This was also the day that the lovebugs arrived at Disney World. They were everywhere! At first I didn’t know what they were, and I screamed and ran every time I saw one. Which was every second minute. It wasn’t until a nice CM told us they were harmless that I relaxed a bit. And I giggled, because their bottoms were stuck together and they were in love. But ew! Bugs everywhere! And they’d all arrived overnight, it seemed!!

I don’t have heaps of photos of Blizzard Beach, since we put our digital camera in the locker. We did buy a throwaway underwater camera, but we don’t have a scanner to scan those photos in, sorry! Plus, you really don’t want to see photos of us with red, puffy, sore faces surrounded by love bugs, and wearing our bathers. Trust me. :rolleyes1

Anyway, onto the slides!! We walked all the way up to the Downhill Double Dipper. Man, that’s a long way! I don’t know why, but I sort of thought Blizzard Beach would be little. I guess in comparison to other parks it’s smaller, but it’s still big! And any way is a long way to walk when you’re in bathers and bare feet!

So we finally made it to Double Dipper, grabbed a tube, and battled the stairs up to the start of the slide. I think this is the one day in my life that I was pleased to have strong little muscley legs. I get them from my Dad, unfortunately. Double Dipper is basically the slide that you slide down on a tube. Seems easy enough! So off we went! Weeeeeeee! :woohoo:

Actually, DF went, “Weeeeeeeee!” and I went, “AUUGHHHHHHHH!” I was scared! I felt unsturdy and like I was going to tip right over in my tube, and land on my head! Hehee! It was fun, but I was beginning to realize that I don’t love water slides after all! Which surprised me, because generally, I love water. I’ve swam since before I can remember, and have always loved playing the water. But it’s not that – I think it’s that I like feeling secure in rides, but on water slides, I could very well imagine myself flying right off. Because believe me, if it was going to happen to anyone, it would happen to me! :rolleyes1

Nevertheless, we trouped on, and headed to Toboggan Racers. I think this one is on little thin mats, and it’s pretty much a straight down speed-slide with some bumps. The CM up the top of the slide tells you when to go, so when we were lying on our tummies on the mats, she said, “Ready, set, GO!” Off DF went, speeding down the slide. And there I lay, on my tummy, flailing around like a little penguin who couldn’t move. I just couldn’t push myself off! So embarrassing! :o Eventually the CM came over to me and pushed my mat for me, and off I went! I yelled out, “THANKS!” on my way down. Still don’t know if she heard me!

When I got to the bottom, DF laughed at me and said, “What took you so long?! Did you get stuck?!” Grrrr! By this stage, I was feeling like a water-park fool! It was still fun though, so we surged onto Snow Stormers!

Snow Stormers was a bit similar to Toboggan Racers, except that it’s curvy instead of straight. So we each grabbed a mat and climbed the 62,000 steps to the top. This time when we lay down on our mats, I was going to be ready to take off at the same time! So when it was our turn, DF lay down on his mat on one slide, and I lay down on my mat on the other side. We were both ready. The CM was ready. She said, “Don’t go yet. Don’t go yet. Don’t go y….” And that’s all I heard, because I was GONE!! I was so ready, that I accidentally went when I wasn’t meant to!! Haaa! This time, instead of screaming, I had the giggles all the way down. Last time I couldn’t get going, and this time I went too early! Talk about a water-park fool!! :lmao:

Next we decided to chill out for a bit, and jumped on the Cross-Country Creek, which is basically the lazy river which goes right around the park. Ahhh, yes! This was more my kind of thing! I think it took about 30 minutes to go right round the park, and it was lovely! We just lay back in our tubes and took it all in! Nice! :cloud9:

After our little relax, we were ready for another slide – the Teamboat Springs! Yayyy! I loved Teamboat Springs! It’s the “family” ride, except it was just DF and me in the boat! You jump in a giant tube, and ride down a long, bendy slide. It wasn’t too fast, and it was much more fun riding with someone else! Definitely my favourite slide so far!

Run-off Rapids was next, which was on the other side of the park. More walking around half-naked! Eek! One thing which totally amused us though, was the little water sprinklers which watered the concrete, or people’s feet as you walked past. Because in Australia, we can’t even water our gardens. Farmers are about to run out of water completely, and we’re about to have no fresh fruit or veggies, because there’ll be none, because there’s no water! It’s bad. Really bad. But here in Orlando, there’s sprinkers to water the concrete, to cool it down so people can walk on it! Ahhh! If only we could have bottled all that wasted water and sent it home! :confused3

We eventually made it to Run-Off Rapids, which was a fun ride with both of us in one tube. I thought it was fun anyway, except DF decided he wanted to wanted to do it a second time, by himself, so he could go faster! So he did that, while I sat and had a little relax with the lovebugs.

Next up was Slush Gusher and Summit Plummet. You know, the really big tall fast slides!? Here’s Summit Plummet…

IMG_0619.jpg

Yeah, you’re right, I didn’t do them. DF did them, and I happily sat and waited! There was no way I was going right up there and sliding straight down at 50 miles an hour. No way, hosay! I could see myself tumbling down in somersaults and falling right off the edge. So instead, I went for a little walk around the park, collected the camera, and came back again. I was happy to be the photographer while DF did the slides!

And here’s DF, sliding down Summit Plummet! It really is him! I took photos of every guy who came down that slide, and deleted them when I realised it wasn’t DF. But this actually IS DF! Yay! And guess what – he went 65 miles an hour! It records your speed as you go down. He LOVED it!

IMG_0617.jpg

After that, we had a little play in Meltaway Bay, the wave pool. But seriously, I don’t think anybody will be melting in that pool for a while. Those waves are huge!! It had been a HUGE morning, and we’d had no food at all, so those waves certainly knocked us about! At first we were laughing hysterically, but after a while, and after swallowing 16 buckets of water, we’d had enough. We only lasted about 5 minutes before we decided to get out and go for some lunch instead!

We changed into our regular clothes first – ahh, so much better! It was actually really hot that day, but we were still cool from being in the water, so it was quite nice really. Lunch was at Lottawotta Lodge – cheeseburger, hot dog, and ice-cream. Yum!! It actually wasn’t that great, but we were starving, so it seemed great at the time. :)

We had a great morning at Blizzard Beach! Even though the slides scared me, I still had lots of fun, and DF just loved everything! Originally, we’d thought we might do Typhoon Lagoon in the afternoon, but there was no chance. It was only about 2pm, but we were exhausted! Water parks really do take it out of you!! And we'd done pretty much everything in the park, except for the kiddie stuff.

So we walked to the bus stop and caught the bus back to Pop, still damp and happy from our very busy, fun morning! :yay:

Next up… Our final night! Back to MGM for a play, then 50’s Prime Time and Fantasmic!

Am I the first to react? Great! :rotfl:

I love your Blizzard Beach report! Although I've read lots and LOTS about the 4 parks, there aren't that many water park reports around. So, thanks! I look forward to going there now! Although I'd NEVER go on the Summit Plummit. That thing scares me! :scared1: I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets scared by it, though :)

I've only ever been to Typhoon Lagoon, and that was about 13 years ago, so it was really interesting to hear about Blizzard Beach. Sounded like fun. And I feel so bad about the wasted water... :( But yay for the update!

Great Water Park report. I had been looking for a report detailing the water parks and this was great... How bad were the LoveBugs? Are there alot of bugs where you live? With there being a water shortage where you live, is there even water parks in Australia somewhere?

Oh, are you going to continue your trip report once you end up leaving disney??? I would love to hear the rest of it

Yeah... that whole waterpark/slide thing? Not happening. The photo of your dh on summit plummet... all I could think of was... omg... can you imagine where your swimsuit would end up?? :scared1:

Loved reading about it though! :thumbsup2 I've taken to reading bits of your report out loud to my dh, he's enjoying your adventures as much as I am :)

PS: Hope you're feeling better! (I was going to add the smiley that has the flowers but apparently you can't do that on an edit)

I'm so glad that you're feeling some better. :)
I can't ever get our time differentials worked out (it's 10:30 a.m. here now in Central time zone USA)... and you were earlier about eating take-away Thai (mmmmm!).
At any rate I'm soooo glad you had fun at the water park. We're considering going - but were unsure. You might've just helped make that decision for us. hehe.
We leave on Tuesday for my first trip to WDW ever and I can hardly contain myself. I'll probably take some pointers off of your TR when I get back for my own.
Have a lovely day. :)

Thanks for the great report. I feel your pain looking at the water wastage, but it did rain last night for us yay
My boyfriend came home on his motorbike yesterday comletely soaked through, the poor thing :lmao:
I am sad that you only have a little more to go on your report, I have enjoyed reading it.
