Two Aussie first-timers in Disney! Lots of photos! NEW- FINAL CHAPTER! - Ch 20, Pg 30

Just had to tell you: I read your dining reviews and trip report - YEP all of both of them - just now finished.
Alot of :lmao: and :rotfl2: Hehe
I appreciate your humor - especially important to laugh at ourselves don't you think?
I surely will do alot of that when I go to WDW in September with DH & DD.
Was great fun re-living the excitement with you.

Anyhow congrats on your engagement.
Australia is on our list of "places to visit before we die" so we'll give ya a shout out if we make it there one day.:cool2:
~ Tina

:woohoo: I spend a couple of days away from the boards and come back to find several new updates from our Aussie Angel. :thumbsup2

So sorry to hear you were ill but very glad you are feeling better now. :flower3:

You and I would do well together at the water parks. I loved Teamboat Springs, had a great time in the wave pool (for about 5 minutes) and could spend the rest of my life floating along in the lazy river. Isn't it amazing what sun and water can do for your appetite? :sunny: I thought the burger we had was the best food we had ever eaten while at Disney. Under normal circumstances I probably wouldn't have touched it! :lmao:

I'm so sad that your trip is drawing to a close. :sad2: I've really enjoyed re-visiting Disney through your eyes. Can't wait to read about the proposal.

Glad you had a good day at Blizzard Beach. Summit Plummet looks so scary. DH and the boys did that one too and DH was kinda speechless afterwards. :lmao: I couldn't even go near it to watch as I think I'd have screamed and shouted things like "my baby" and "mommy's here, it's okay" at the boys if I actually saw them coming down. :teeth:

Tonsillitis sucks! :( I had recurring bouts of it for years but finally had my tonsils out 3 or 4 years ago and never looked back. Hope you're feeling better.

The only others who could match Patrick and Jennifer are
Max and Paddy

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: Thanks for the link. I was roaring laughing!! I remember those two from 'Phoenix Nights' - loved that show.

What form!
What style!
What....Utter Insanity!!!

I would have been right there with you, waiting at the bottom!!

So glad you had fun! Waiting patiently for more....

Kathy

Here's hoping you've finally kicked tonsilitis' you-know-what.

I'm sad that this is your last disney day but looking forward to more....

You know I didn't know you could refill those refill mugs with frozen coke. Mmmmmmm...my favorite. Gonna be getting those next time.

I as so glad that you showed a picture of DeVine! I have heard about it(her) before but I have never seen it(her). Maybe I have walked right by thinking it was a typical Florida species of shrub!:confused3

Hey! So funny that we were at WDW the same time!

I enjoyed hearing about the water park since I've never been. Yes, that's right. I've been going since 1983 and have NEVER been to the water parks. :sad2:

I guess I need to find your restaurant review while you write the rest!

Cya!

Hey everybody!! :wave2:

Lots of replies to respond to! Yay! Sorry I've been a bit slow to reply!

Marjol... Glad you enjoyed the Blizzard Beach chapter! And you're definitely not alone about Summit Plummet being scary! I couldn't even contemplate doing it! :scared1:

lamagique... Ooh, we wanted to try Typhoon Lagoon, but just didn't have the time or the energy left!! Next time, definitely!! I didn't mean to make you feel bad about the wasted water... it's not your fault!! Sometimes the sky just doesn't want to rain! :confused3

REL1203... Wow, lots of questions! :thumbsup2 The lovebugs were bad - but seriously, they only arrived that day. Apparently they hung around for a few weeks in September last year, and then disappeared again. I don't know if they come every year, or if it was just a bizarre freaky thing. :confused3 As for having lots of bugs in Australia, I think we just have the standard amount of bugs! Ha! We live in a big city, so we find the occasional spider and cockroach, and there's lots of flies and mosquitoes in summer, but apart from that, nothing too major! I'd never seen lovebugs before, anyway. And yes, there's a water park in Australia, and I think it's still running, but I'm sure they have a recycled-type water system. Not sure!! Lastly, I'll definitely keep about our trip after Disney, don't worry! :woohoo:

Marion... You're right about where the swimsuits end up on Summit Plummet!! I watched so many people get up off the slide, and automatically pull their bathers out of their bottoms! Heee! And hi Marion's DH!! Hope you're enjoying the little snippets of my trippie!! :yay:

edaymond... Ooh, you must have left for your Disney trip already! Hope you have a fantastic time!! Yay!! :woohoo: Looking forward to reading your trip report when you return!!

lajones81... Thanks for your nice comments! :)

HalloweenQueen... Glad you're enjoying my trip report! And yep, I'll continue writing about our trip after the Disney part!

QuirkyButterfly... Are you from Melbourne too? The little bit of rain on the weekend was nice, I agree!! Hope we get some more soon though!

GOODoldPAL... Yay, thanks for all your kind words!! It's definitely important to laugh at ourselves... it's better than crying, anyway!! Hee!! You should definitely pop over to Australia sometime! :woohoo:

Ricky's Girl... We do sound similar regarding our approach to the waterparks! Yay! We might bump into each other one day on the Lazy River - you never know! Hee!

DebIreland... That's funny that you chose not to watch your boys on Summit Plummet!! I couldn't help but watch!! And thanks for your good wishes for my silly tonsils! Like you, I've had tonsilitis on and off for years now - but doctors just refuse to take them out here, if you're an adult! Booo!! Maybe I should pop over to Ireland and get them whipped out!

KathyRN137... Hahaa! Summit Plummet definitely is utter insanity! Way too scary for me!! I loved your little poem. :thumbsup2

buffy0214... Ooh yeah! You can definitely refill the mugs with frozen coke! Or my personal favourite - frozen raspberry! Yum!! Well, you can at Pop Century, anyway. I'm not sure about the other resorts.

Sue88... Glad you liked the photo of DeVine! She is pretty cool!!

Glendamax... Oh wow, I didn't realise we were in WDW at the same time! How funny!! We might have seen each other and not realised!! :yay: Maybe you should go to a waterpark next time! They are lots of fun!

Thanks again everybody, for your lovely comments and for sticking with my trip report all this way!! I'll have the next chapter up tomorrow - it's a public holiday tomorrow in Australia, so that means a sleep-in, and DIS board time! Yay!!

(I feel bad, I should also add that the public holiday is ANZAC Day, when we remember all the Australians who went to different wars and never came back. So I guess it's not JUST a day to sleep in and play on the DIS boards! Whoops!!)

About the lovebugs, it is common misconception that Lovebugs are a result of an experiment by the University of Florida in a (failed) attempt to control mosquito population.:lmao: I believed this for a long time, too long, actually. I even helped spread the info. Of course, they are just regular harmless, annoying bugs. And, yes, they do arrive every Sept/Oct.

Ok, Science class is over. :teacher:

I can't wait for more!!!

We are trying to figure out which water park to visit in September, so it was great to hear about one of them!!

Actually I am from Canberra, it is a shame that the rain didn't make it to the catchment area's. I agree ANZAC Day is great for sleeping in, that's what DBF and me have done. I do have to go to work later though :guilty: but it is not for the whole day.

Great updates! sorry you were down with tonsilitis again, that bites.
Primevil whirl left me with bruises on my legs, it's such a violent ride, i yelled ouch throught the whole thing.
I don't want your TR to end, I am enjoying your adventure way too much!

Hi

I'm so happy I found your TR!

I'm in Sydney. My partner and I are planning our first trip to WDW in May next year. It's nice to know there are others out there that are obsessed about WDW too - (and especially a fellow Aussie, I know there's plenty of American WDW nuts out there, but as far as I know so far, America is a make believe land, a place where movies, TV, McDonald's and celebrities come from - not actual reality!)

I have a year to go, and I spend all my free time researching and planning and reading all about Disney Parks. I don't know how I'm going to make it! I can just see myself doing the things I've read about in your report, ie. reading Passporter for the 1000th time on the plane over.

So anyways, we're kind of doing the same trip you did. We're going for about 7 weeks.

4 nights Miami
8 nights Walt Disney World, Orlando
3 nights Universal, Orlando
7 nights New York City
4 nights San Francisco
3 nights Sequoia National Park
4 nights Los Angeles
6 nights Las Vegas

I
AM
SO
EXCITED
!!!!!!!!!

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

So keep your TR's coming!

Starlucks, that is so fun that you say the U.S. is the mythical place where movies and McDonalds etc... come from! But we are all similar as you will see. After all, I have spent many an hour reading my Passporter too!! I hope you have a really great time on your holiday to the States! And, maybe someday I will get to visit Australia! That mythical place of koalas, the opera house, the great barrier reef, and the blue ringed octopus!!!!!!

Ooh, some more replies to respond to before I post the next chapter!! :)

buffy0214... Thanks for the info on the lovebugs!! That's funny about the theory that they exist to control the mosquito populations! Did people think they ate mosquitoes? Heee!

Meggie Pooh... Thanks for stopping by! Hope my Blizzard Beach post was of some help to you!! :thumbsup2

QuirkyButterly... Hey!! We lived in Canberra last year! We're originally from Melbourne, but we moved to Canberra for 18 months, for DF's work. We only moved back to Melbourne last November. Yay!! Hope you enjoyed your ANZAC day sleep-in! I know I did!

disneyaddicted... Ooh, interesting to hear that other people don't like Primeval Whirl either!! And don't worry, my trip report isn't quite over just yet!!

starlucks... Wow, your trip sounds amazing!! I'm so jealous!! We had soooo much fun on our American adventure, and I'm sure you will too! We didn't go to Miami, but would love to another time soon. Do you know which hotel you'll stay at in Disney? If you'd like any info about where we stayed in any cities, just PM me and I can let you know. Or if you have any other questions, too! How exciting! :yay:

Sue88... You should definitely pop over to Australia, the mythical land of koalas and the Great Barrier Reef. Heehee!

I'll have the next chapter up in a couple of minutes! popcorn::

Chapter 14… Our last night at Disney!! :sad1:

So we arrived back at Pop after a very busy afternoon at Blizzard Beach, ready for a little rest! We filled up our mugs with frozen coke, and grabbed some more cheese popcorn (seriously, I love that stuff!), then headed back to our room. We watched a bit of tv, ate our popcorn, drank our frozen cokes, then did the saddest thing at Disney you can do…

We packed our suitcases. Booooo. :sad2:

We were heading to Savannah, Georgia the next morning, and for some reason when we were planning our trip, we thought it might be fun to catch the train to Savannah. Because Savannah is cute and old-fashioned, so we thought catching a train might be a cute and old-fashioned thing to do too! Heee. It made sense at the time. But anyway, we wanted to start packing our suitcases because we were going to MGM that night, and knew we wouldn’t feel like doing it late when we got home from MGM.

Anyway, after packing our suitcases and feeling pretty miserable, we headed off to MGM, for our last official Disney evening! We had an early ADR dinner at 50’s Prime Time for 5.25. That’s early for us, anyway! We made it early because we wanted to see Fantasmic at 8.30, and then play at MGM for a while afterwards, since it was open until 11.30pm, with Magic Hours. Yay!!

So we caught the Pop bus to MGM. Since this was our second time at this park, I think we both felt much more relaxed and “at home”! I know that might sound silly, but really, we hadn’t been to the same place twice (except for our hotel rooms) in weeks!! Everything was new, which was exciting, but sometimes it’s nice to say, “Ahhh, yes. I know this place!” You know what I mean!? That was our feeling when we walked into MGM. Nice! :)

Plus, we really love MGM. I think it’s our favourite Disney park!! Followed closely by Magic Kingdom. They both have a great vibe and lots and lots of fun stuff to do! I think EPCOT is my next favourite, followed by Animal Kingdom. Which is weird, because before I went to Disney, I thought the order would be opposite to that! I thought I would love Animal Kingdom and EPCOT! And I did enjoy them, but not as much as MGM or Magic Kingdom. Anyway, moving right along…

We headed straight to our ADR at 50’s Prime Time, and had a 5 minute wait on the old couches before our names were called. We’d been really excited going to this restaurant. Along with Sci-Fi and Boma, it was one of the first restaurants we knew we really wanted to try. It just looked fun!! That afternoon though, we were both feeling a bit tired and a bit sad to be leaving, and as DF said, “I hope they don’t tell me to go sit in the corner, or I might swear at them.” Basically, we just weren’t really in the mood!! Nevertheless, we’re always in the mood for good food, so to our table we went!

We were in luck, because our server wasn’t over the top with the whole role-playing thing at all. She told me to get me elbows off the table a couple of times, and she growled at me for not eating my Southern greens, but when I said to her, “Actually, I don’t really like them!” we had a sensible chat about them and she was really quite nice. Phew!

The restaurant itself was really cute and kitschy, except… because I’d seen so many photos on the DIS boards, I felt like I’d seen it all before! Wah! It’s really the only time in our trip that I wished I hadn’t done so much research! :guilty:

So the food. The food really wasn’t that great. At first I thought it was a fun idea to eat the food they used to cook in the 1950’s, but after eating there, I remembered why most people don’t cook it any more. It was all kinda bland and yeucky!

I had the fried herb cheese, which was actually delicious – the best part of our meal! Except that the toast they serve it with was hard as a rock. Seriously, I banged it on the table a few times and it broke the table in half. Hehee, okay, not really, but it was hard!

IMG_0621.gif

For my main, I had the fried chicken, which was oily and fatty, and just not very nice. Plus, it came served with southern greens, which I’m sure a lot of people like, but ew! I thought they smelt like cigarettes! Do they normally?! Or was the chef smoking while he cooked my dinner? The smell made me feel a bit sick actually, which is why I couldn’t eat them, or most of my chicken! Ew!!

IMG_0624.gif

And for dessert, I had S’mores, which were okay, but just not what I was really imagining! I couldn’t work out how to eat it – was I meant to pick it up with my hands? I ended up trying to break it with a fork, but it took a lot of work! Here they are –

IMG_0626.gif

DF had the Caesar salad for his starter, which was really just lettuce and parmesan cheese, then the meatloaf for his main, which he said was pretty dry and pretty ordinary! He was so full afterward that he just had a chocolate milkshake for dessert, which I think was the best part of his meal. Heh. I don’t have a photo of his milkshake though, sorry!

IMG_0625.gif

So after our unspectacular dinner, we went for a wander around MGM, and popped into a few shops on the way. We still had a little while before Fantasmic, so we went to see Walt Disney’s “One Man’s Dream”, which we both really enjoyed! It was a nice way to finish our time at Disney, and to spend some time with the guy who started it all. Good job, Walt! :thumbsup2

By that stage it was about 7.30, so we decided to find a seat at Fantasmic and wait for an hour. I’m not very good at waiting though, so at about 7.40, I decided to go buy us some drinks for the show. I think while I was away, I also swapped some pins, and enjoyed a little walk around that area of MGM. So when I eventually returned to our seats half an hour later, poor DF was so worried, and asked, “Where were you!?!” Apparently the lady behind him had asked if I was returning, and she offered to look after our seats while he went to look for me. Hehehee. Whoops!! She even patted me on the shoulder and said, “I’m glad you made it back safely!” Eeek! :rolleyes1

Another cute thing happened before Fantasmic started. There was a lady at the very front of the seats, waving her arms madly, trying to catch her husband’s attention, who was right up the top of the seats, looking for her. This went on for a good few minutes, until the whole audience was watching her, so we started waving back at her instead. Funny! So FINALLY her husband spotted her, and ran down the stairs to her, and the whole audience erupted into applause! The poor couple gave each other an embarrassed kiss and waved to the audience. Hehee, cute!

Anyway, I LOVED Fantasmic! I sat there with a smile on my face the whole time, like a little kid! LOVED it!! I loved Wishes too, but not as much as Fantasmic! And IllumiNations just didn’t even compare to either of them. Looking back, I was a bit underwhelmed with IllumiNations actually. But Fantasmic, I adored! DF liked it too, but his comment was, “There was too much water.” Ummm, okay! I think that was kinda the point. But anyway!

Here’s some photos from Fantasmic. They’re a bit blurry, sorry! But I still like the colours...

IMG_0648.jpg

So it was only around 9pm, and MGM was open until 11.30. We waited for the Fantasmic crowd to subside a bit, and then decided to check out Tower of Terror and Rock’n’Roller Coaster again – but alas! They both had an hour wait! Ohh, dear. We loved them and contemplated waiting, but we were both so tired, so we decided to skip the rides and do some shopping instead.

We spent about 45 minutes looking around the Christmas shop, trying to choose what to buy. :santa: I LOVE snow globes and wanted to buy one, but I just didn’t have much room left in my suitcase, and I was scared it might break on one of the many flights we still had left. So instead, we finally chose a gorgeous little Mickey and Minnie Christmas tree decoration. When we got home to Australia, we put the decoration in a really safe spot, ready for Christmas-time, and guess what? It was such a good hiding spot, that neither of us can find it again! Christmas came and went, and spent so long hunting through the house, trying to find that ornament, but nope! It’s still in it’s special hiding place! Very sad! :guilty:

While walking around the park having one last explore, DF jumped on this Star Wars thing and posed for a photo. He wanted to do it the first time we were in MGM, but he was too embarrassed. But this time, in the dark when nobody else was around, he was brave enough to do it! Yayyy! Here’s the photo…

IMG_0651.jpg

After that, we both sadly decided it was time to leave MGM, and head back to Pop for the last time. We were sleepy! And instead of feeling sad that our time at Disney was over, we were feeling happy because we’d had such a nice, relaxing night at MGM! And as well as that, we’d had a fantastic week! We had our ups and downs of course, but we had FUN!! So much fun! :yay:

And also… we still had so much more traveling to do! Savannah, Washington DC, New York, Toronto, Montreal, Dublin… wow!! Who could be sad with all that ahead of them, and such fabulous times behind them!? :woohoo:

Okay, we were a little bit sad, but at least we were trying to be positive!!

So sleepily, we jumped on our last Disney bus, and headed back to Pop. I bought a couple of last minute pins in the Pop store, and some more cheese popcorn, just because I could. Hehee. If we had have stayed for any longer, I fear I might have turned into a piece of cheese popcorn. popcorn::

We still had a couple of counter service meals left on our free dining, as well as a few snacks, so we were planning on using those the next day over breakfast.

Back in our room, we did some last minute packing, watched some tellie, and went to sleep in our separate beds for the last time! What a fun, exhausting week we’d had at Disney!! :yay:

Next up… Leaving Disney, and exploring Savannah!

I so hope you are going to tell us ALL about the rest of your adventure!! I want to hear all the details about each of your stops!!

Try looking for it under the odd sock mountain in your wash room....:lmao:

I'm with you about Fantasmic/Wishes/IllumiNations. Fantasmic took my breath away. I'm not a big fan of MGM, but I can't think of skipping it because that would mean missing Fantasmic. I even bought a Sorcerer Mickey dangle thing for my windshield, which unfortunately lost its stick this year. For some reason DBF doesn't think buying a replacement is a good enough reason to risk WDW in June, when we're going down to Florida to visit his father. He's coming around though. But I'm not revealing that I found it in Downtown Disney until we get there.

Good for him! Where else can you be a kid but at Disney?
