My friend and her DH just decided to plan a trip to WDW (her first, and he hasn't been there for years) in July. They are leaving both DS's at home....actually not even telling the 7yo where they are going, b/c they feel so guilty!!! They say that they are using this trip as the "scouting trip" to get a headstart when they do their first family trip there.

Well here is my question. I'm going to help plan their 4 night trip there, although, with such a short trip, I have no idea where to tell them to start! They are staying at POR, and will be arriving in the middle of 07/29, departing 08/02. What is a list of your MUST SEE's and DO's. I have mine, but I really want them to give them the best info possible, and I have only had 2 trips to WDW, and both have been long enough for us to see and do alot. Plus, I have only been there in Feb and Oct, both "off season" so any heads up on attendance, weather, etc, would be appreciated as well!

Even if you guys have any suggestions for books, that would be great. I've used Birnbaums, but I know that they are published by Disney, so everything is great according to them. Not that it all isn't great, but a little different view would be nice, too!

Thanks for your help in advance!

ps...I did let her know about these wonderful boards, but I am not sure if she'll use them, but after I let her know of your suggestions, I'm sure she'll jump on right away!

i would suggest if they want to dine somewhere popular to get those PS arrangements made as soon as possible. as for the parks, of course, the major attractions are important. when we went in septmeber w/a couple who had never been, we just did an overview of each park. there is no way all of it can be covered in 4 days!! since they are staying on-site, i would recommend taking advantage of magic hour mornings. a lot can be done in that hour! but a plan would be helpful. have you checked out deb's site: www.wdwig.com lots of good info there as well as on this site. if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.:p

The one thing I would recommend is going on rides that might not interest their kids, or might be too scary for them. Such as ToT, possbily RNRC, & Alien. WS @Epcot is not always as interesting to the kids as it is to the adults. This way when they do take the kids they won't feel like they missed out on things they really would have enjoyed. My DH & I are going this May w/o our 2 kids, but they have both been there numerous times & we will all be back as a family in December. I am so looking foward to doing WS @Epcot without them because it allows me to stroll though it & not worry about the ride parts of Epcot. I would also suggest seeing PI at nite. Experiencing NYE every nite is great! My DH has never done this because we have always had our kids with us. Also plan a very adult dinner...maybe at V&A....something that the kids wouldn't appreciate it. I could probably go on, but like us, they only have 4 days. I hope they enjoy their vacation, & your a great friend to do this for them! Kathy ;)

My DH and I are also going for our first trip in June w/o the kids to celebrate our 15th Anniv. (We are planning a family vacation in Oct to help with my guilt!)

We are planning to do the Keys to the Kingdom tour since we wouldn't normally get to do this with kids in tow.

By the way, what is the NYE? Sometimes the initial stuff throws me off.:D

Hi Minivan3....NYE = New Year's Eve....every night a little before midnite there is a countdown, just like New Years Eve...confetti & all...if you can you should try it at least once! Kathy ;)

Thanks nuts4snOOpy!! I'm assuming that this takes place in PI.
We might try it this June.
